Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Club - Gator/Panther Course
About
Located just northwest of Tampa, Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Club sprawls across the lush landscape of the west Florida coast. The club offers three nines: the Gator, the Panther, and the Bobcat. The nines can be played individually for a quick round or in three different 18-hole combinations. The Gator/Panther layout offers a good balance of challenges and player-friendly features. Narrow, tree-lined fairways are complemented by generous landing areas. There are sparkling lakes and ponds that come into play on a few holes and strategically placed bunkers are situated along the greensides. In addition to the three golf courses, Silver Dollar boasts one of the area's most extensive practice facilities, which includes a full driving range, two putting greens, a pitching and chipping green with a sandtrap, and three practice holes.

Better than Expected
I got an amazing deal for this course by booking through GolfNow. $17.68 total for two players doing 18 holes with a cart. The staff in the Pro Shop was pretty helpful and friendly, but the crotchety starter made Mr. Wilson(!!)'s attitude toward Dennis loving. The foxy beverage cart driver wasn't the friendliest, but that certainly didn't stop my brother and I from waving her down on every pass. The course was in pretty good shape, though the lush, manicured greens could have been mowed lower. Although it isn't the most challenging course, it has some pretty long par 4s and 3s when playing from the blues (farthest back), and a good amount of water hazards, especially on approach shots. I will say that whomever decided it was a good idea to combine a golf course and skeet shooting range into one facility better have lost his or her job! Even if firing the person had to be done through sign language... The Silver Dollar website should also include some pictures of the course. It makes first-timers hesitant to give it a try.
great course bad greens.
The course played great but the greens were so thick it was like putting on an adult film star's crotch from the 1970s. They take quite a few holes to get used to. Fun course overall, but cut the greens a little shorter. Thanks.
Silver dime!
I've played this course several times in the past. It's fairly close and reasonably priced. I have never had any issues with the course itself. Even when it was wet it was still playable. However this last trip to Silver Dollar was by far the worst that course has ever played. The Tee's and Fairways were not cut, the Tee's were very sparse. The fairways were so thick even a good shot in fairway was as if your ball was in the rough. The greens were very inconsistent. It was like the course was closing and didn't tell anyone.
Greens are Shag Carpets
Good value - payed 26 dollars for 2 players at 11:50 on Memorial Day (Hot Deal). No one on the course so that was great too. The greens were not real greens - rolled like they were all temporary with regular grass. Some tee boxes were bad from rear tees. Many weed areas that need to be mowed. Good for practice but don't book this to play with your buddies if you want to keep them as friends...
This course is very good.
The fairways were in good shape but the greens were recently aerated making it difficult to putt.
Greens just airated
Just been airated w/ the largest spikes I've ever seen. There was no predictability as to where the ball was going on the green. He did say they dropped the price due to it. The walk up price at 2:oo was $21. I was kind of upset because I paid 23 on golf now
Loud
Course also has skeet shooting so you hear loud gun fire the whole time you're playing. Not very relaxing. Still wondering how people can live there. Lots of water hazards. Bring several extra balls if you are going to play here.
Silver Dollar
There isn't much special to the course. It's relatively easy with a fair amount of dog legs. The greens were in pretty good shape but the tee boxes and fairways were beat up. The gun range next door is quite loud but didn't bother us much.
Sandtrap
A flat course. A lot of skeet shooting going next to course and this made it loud. Greens were fast, and could not stick ball on on a fly, had to hit short and roll the ball on. Good variety of birds, with water in play on several holes.
Hole markers
Like overall, but really wish the would repainted the hole markers, the red is so faded you can not read them ,
Gator needed some work. Panther was nice.
My first time playing here. Played the Panther first nine and it needed work. tee boxes not level and lots of divots. Greens were spotty. Lots of roots around trees if youre in the rough. water in play. back nice is much nicer as I played the Panther. very nice greens. Gun range along the road was the only negative on the back nine. reasonable for the money but the front nine wasnt anything to write about.
Shots fired.
The Silver Dollar Golf Club is a nice little track. It has firmly large fairways with plenty of room to miss. Most of the greens are crowned and water comes into play on about half the course. Its a short course by modern day standards but the design makes you think. Lots of doglegs and holes where driver isn't necessarily the play. The course was in pretty good shape, greens rolled true and fairways were green. No rough to speak of, pretty typical of courses in FL this time of year. Course was a bit soggy from rain, lots of embedded balls. Other than that, it was a nice round on a fun little track. ***A special note however, if you are easily bothered by loud sounds beware. The course is across the street from a gun range. The #8 hole of the Panther 9 is about 150 yards away.
Great Value
The course was in great shape. It's just a great value for the layout is challenging.
Just a nice place.
It was a pleasure to go out to a place not surrounded by homes. That said, the course was a typical west coast course, flat. Some areas on the fairways were thin. A good deal of wildlife to be seen. However, the staff make it so much more enjoyable, and I really kind of liked the idea of the gun range going along #8 Panther side. An interesting tid bit for your golf course scrap book. Let's face it, there is always something better, but I really liked this place and I will go back again, nice and relaxed, you'll be happy with the choice.
Average Course at a Good Price!
I would really like to give Silver Dollar a higher rating as the course condition was fine and they layout if nice but the gun range right across the street makes some of the holes not so enjoyable. I don't need complete silence to golf, my buddies are talking the whole time anyway but constant gunfire is a bit much when your on the golf course. I would probably not recommend this course to anyone although the course itself and the staff are good.. Just didn't enjoy the whole round due to the shooting range that is attached.
Winter conditions are OK
Nothing outstanding to write. Tee boxes fair, fairways fair, rough sparce (and awkward, lots of surface roots near the trees). Greens are ok, roll smooth but speed is moderate to slow. Current overall condition along with a low rate makes for a good practice round. Pay a higher rate and you may be disappointed. The gun range across the street will either annoy you or improve your focus.
Good Value from GolfNow
We found this course is ladies friendly ... played the Gator / Panther combination ... wide fairways ... Greens are rolling quite nice ... saw a 9 foot alligator on the 9th hole ... the only annoying thing is the noise from the trap shooting range adjacent to the course ... enjoyed the round and will come back.
Great course at a great value!
I have recently played several courses in the area and Silver Dollar Golf Course is in far better condition than all of the others I've played. The greens at Silver Dollar are phenomenal!! I've played golf for years, but gave it up for the past 10 years and have just started playing again with my wife who recently took it up. I took my wife to Silver Dollar for the first time this weekend and it was her favorite course of all the courses we've played in the area. Silver Dollar is perfect to challenge me, yet still provide an enjoyable round for my wife without being able to get into too much trouble. This is now our "go-to" course for a weekend round of golf. You can't go wrong playing here!
Half bad half good
Ok, when we arrived to 1st tee there was a fourball just teed off and a twosome waiting.. no problem, then the starter asked us to start on the bobcat 9 and we did, BIG MISTAKE, it is in very poor condition, greens are all patchy and poor overall layout. We were going to leave after 9 but said we would give the Gator 9 a chance and I'm glad we did. Very nice and 100% better than Bobcat 9. We just couldn't figure out why starter sent us out to such a poor 9 holes. I would reconend to a friend but to stay clear of Bobcat 9.
Do not play here if you are a Veteran!
My friends and I decided to play a new course for Veteran's Day this year. Two of us are active duty and the others were Army Veterans. The initial interaction with the pro shop was unpleasant but we moved on. After playing a couple holes, the ranger came around and rudely hassled us about playing with 5 players. We were the only people within site on the course! On the turn, I stopped in the pro shop to talk about the interaction. The associate that I talked to immediately accused me of lying and rudely interrupted me every time that I tried to talk. During the back nine holes, they had a ranger watching us the entire time. I mean the entire time! I stopped into the pro shop one more time after the round and expressed my disappointment with everything and the guy at the counter just smiled and nodded at me. My friends and I were just trying to play golf to celebrate Veteran's Day and this course ruined it!. I will never play there again, nor will my friends. Very disappointed.
