Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Mayfair
This is a decent course overall. It is convenient because it is close to home. The the staff in the pro shop was very inattentive, sort of like he couldn’t care less about people showing up to play. The course was okay, greens are fast, tee boxes were in poor shape, very choppy. The overall course layout is a bit sloppy as well. The fairways were in generally good condition.
the cart paths are terrible, looks like the greens were vertacut and sanded several days ago which was fine.I'm sure they will be great once again.
Conflicted
I really enjoy this course, but things are starting to get to me. The last few times multiple groups were booked for the exact same tee time. It hasn't been too big of a deal yet, but doesn't seem very ethical and is most likely why pace of play is slow at times. The other thing that bothers me is the staffs use of foul language while working. I don't really care if people want to talk that way, but it's very unprofessional in my opinion, especially if I have my young daughter with me.
Anyway, not ready to give up on it because it is really fun to play, but they aren't creating the greatest atmosphere to play in.
Good for fun
A late-afternoon round in Central Florida always brings the potential of thunderstorms, and this was no exception. Before our group had to quite on #15 we enjoyed a nice, simple layout and greens that were in pretty good shape but really slow! The clubhouse and surrounding facility was old and tired, but that was not an issue because of current social distancing.
Mayfair Country Club Golf
This course is a mediocre course but it is close and convenient for me to play.
Enjoyable course and friendly staff
This course is a lot of fun, well priced and the staff is great. The only issue I would have is that the fairways and greens are pretty rough on some of the holes. But still worth playing!
Apparently the pandemic is over at Mayfair Country Club
I played Mayfair on 6/20/20 with my friend from Denver. He had just flown in the day before for a work trip. The starter (a polite, older man) informed us that we would have to ride in the same cart together. I explained to him that my friend and I don't live together and he was from out of town and we didn't feel comfortable riding in the same cart. I offered to pay more money for the additional cart but the young man in the pro shop told me to go ahead and tee of and he would not charge me extra.
Fast forward to when we made the turn and a man (I assume the head pro/general manager) again informed us that we would have to ride in the same cart. I explained the situation to him and, again, offered to pay extra. He said we would have to ride in the same cart and that if I "felt comfortable enough to make the tee time, then I should feel comfortable enough to ride in the same cart." He then said that part of their "phase 2" was going back to 2 people per cart, "just like every other course in the area". He is incorrect about other courses in the area. I played Victoria Hills on 6/14/20 and was able to take my own cart. VH said they would be going back to 2-per-cart the following weekend but were allowing players to pay an extra $10 to take their own cart.
Mayfair is acting as if the global pandemic is over, despite the fact that there were 3,800 new COVID cases in the state and 43 deaths YESTERDAY. Seminole County, in particular, accounted for 1,101 of those cases and 19 of those deaths.
My entire foursome ended up getting a full refund and left. I do appreciate the full refund but this was the least they could do.
I understand they are running a business and are free to enact (or not enact) whatever safety protocols they wish but I am also free to refuse and take my business elsewhere and that is what I will do. I enjoy Mayfair but there are many other courses in the area that care more about health and safety of their customers.
No regard for customers
Course management rode out to us in a middle of a round to take one of our carts because they were out of them from two 70 year old golfers... Even after explaining that we had serious medical condition and were trying to social distance.... He did not care for our concerns but was only interested in getting carts back... Very disappointing to watch his lack of concern for our safety and his only concern was not allowing us to social distance so he could get a cart back.... Do NOT go here until after a vaccine if you value your health.
Great value, Great shape!
Golf course was in great shape, greens rolling true and fast! Fairways are in great shape and healthy! Probably the best course for its money in the area, by far!!
Excellent Day !
Love this course when it's not so busy. All in all, the course was in great shape, greens were good. No complaints !
Did not even get to play!!!
The course was overbooked and they did not even have enough golf carts. Waited for half an hour past my tee time and was told it could be another hour before we could play. Had to leave without playing. They would not refund the money because I had booked on GolfNow. I could not reach GolfNow because their number is not answered. Had to dispute the charge with my credit card for a refund.
Will probably never play here again. Makes me think twice before booking on GolfNow website as there is no way of resolving a dispute directly with them.
the bathrooms are in terrible shape and there are no bathrooms on the course. that is the only downside. other than that i always enjoy playing mayfair, the staff are excellent
Incompetent Starter
This course is a total disaster! Starting off with an inept starter. We were waiting at the #1 tee box for 30 minutes before he let us go. His reasoning was for “spacing due to the Wuhan virus”. I get that but he waited for the group in front of us to get off the #3 greens before he let us go. To make matters worse, he let the twosome behind us go right after we did. We were putting on #2 and they appeared agitated that they had to wait. They pretty much stayed on our tail until #4 where they skipped around us to the next hole (blame the incompetent starter). The tee boxes are atrocious and lack grass. The cart paths are riddled with potholes. Don’t fall for any of these positive reviews. Much better courses nearby.
Not
I simply forgot to show up and forfeited my fees. Real bummer.
Congrats
Working well through coronavirus crisis. These guys are hard working and friendly. Course in good shape considering how hard it must be right now to keep staff and everyone at a distance. They said the cops had been there to enforce distancing rules.
Old Course Looking Great
The historical Mayfair is in great shape. The greens were rolling true and the fairways were in good shape. The city of Sanford runs the course and has done a good job keeping it up to par. If you like an old school Florida course you will enjoy a day here,
I had a nearly identical experience at Mayfair this past weekend. I completely agree. Don’t go to Mayfair if you have any concern for your health and safety because Mayfair certainly doesn’t.
