Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Course was a bit rough in condition, but Im thankful they're open!
The staff was very friendly, the rates were good and I'm glad they were open!
That being said the course was a bit rough. Lots of dried out fairways, bare lies and bald spots.
Can’t say enough bad things!
You would think that in these times, ( people worrying about keeping a job,) that the staff at a golf course would be nice to its customers. But not at this golf course!!! We were a twosome and were getting held up by a foursome. Finally on the 17th tee box they let us go by. The guy works there!! You could tell he didn’t care!! Won’t be back. Tell your friends, don’t waste your time.
Awesome ppl and good times if you don’t like waiting on the “leagues”, might as well join them they are open to everybody and are a blast. Highly recommended
Great for the price
My overall impression of the course is that it is better than the price that I paid. Due to a Skins game lasting beyond expectations, there was a shortage of carts and a 30 minute delay. Once on the course, the course was too dry, but the greens were well kept. The pace of play was slow, not due to players playing slow, but time management. Had I gone on a different day, I would have rated the course higher.
Slow Pace
Buddy and mine tees off at 1239 which was early however then quickly ran into issues with the pace. We didn’t finish playing till almost 6pm. There was a point that we waited at least 30 mins to tee off at a hole and every holt was at least 15 min wait to tee off there was no course ranger making sure pace was running well. Also I tried to talk to someone after we played to address it and found out after we pay for our round that it was free golf day. I tried talking to someone about this and no one was willing to help me.
Nice course
Nice place to play golf. Holes are different which makes for a fun day. Green and fairways were very nice. Tees were pretty rough. The only problem was a single jump in front of us on the back 9 which was wrong. No ranger on the course will allow this to happen.
Issues with facilities
Tried to play Friday. The course had internet issues and were unable to process payments. Place was packed and this caused a lot of frustration. We waited approximately 20 min as they attended to “reboot” their system. Customers were visibly agitated but the staff did a good job keeping their cool in such an awkward situation.
From conversations of the employees it sounds as if this a VERY common occurrence. Because of this I would warn others you might be wasting your time heading out there, and if you do give yourself plenty of time before your round if you plan on warming up prior to playing. The 45 minutes I had allotted was wasted on waiting to pay for the round before eventually leaving altogether.
Great staff and green conditions but...
I get it. The course is trying to do their best to get folks to play this wonderful little course. But giving preference to leagues during the day (putting everyone else on the back nine or front nine twice - only to compete with the folks teeing off the nine on the second time around - resulting in very slow play - 5 hours and a poor experience for all but the league). Letting 5somes play along with the two and trees and foursomes. This is NOT a regular course where rules govern common play etiquette. They have DJs on Fridays on the first tee to bring out the younger crowd (may not be your cup of tea - isn't mine). I've had too many bad experiences and probably won't be back.
This is a shame because the course comes from greatness - and now it's a circus.
Great Value for the money
The course does not beat you up. It is excellent for the average golfer. It is owned by the City of Sanford. The city is replacing all buildings.
Mayfair critique
Very nice greens and tee boxes. Fairways were decent. The rough and areas off fairways were rough. Pace of play was great. All in all it was a very nice round. I will play again.
MISMANAGED STARTING TIMES
We went off as a threesome.
There was a twosome in front of us....and they were very slow.
On the 4th hole, a single came up behind us and we let him play through on the 5th tee, expecting him to join up with the twosome or be allowed to play through...neither happenened.
When we got to the 10th tee, we encountered an unfamiliar threesome had just walked onto the tee box. We told them we were making the turn and they told us they had been told to start on 10 by the Pro Shop...Since they had not yet hit, protocol demanded that they relinquish the tee to those coming off of 9.
They proceeded to hit off the white tees and they looked like they had never played before...one of them couldn't hit the ball a 100 yards.
I called the Pro Shop to register my complaint and was told that someone would be right out.
That never happened.
If the pro shop can't manage their starting times and coordination with Golf Pass better than that, I will not go back there.
No other course using Golf Pass has ever treated us that way.
So why should we go back to Mayfair???
All You Need Is Love
Pace of play was excellent and it’s a forgiving course for the most part, but it could do with TLC.
