Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Best Greens-Worst Fairways and Tees!
I have never seen great greens and horrible tees and fairways!! They have evidently placed herbicide and are supposed to cut fairways short today. Tees will take time to grow back grass. Very unusual.
The fairways look a little rough, but the rest of the course is fine.
course has good and bad
the greens were in great shape, but the fairways need some work
Good greens
The greens were in great shape. Fairways and tee boxes need some work. Great value for money. The bar and grill need some work. A/ C was pretty poor, selection of drinks was poor, no vodka! There was no vodka the last time I played 6 months ago.
Overall, it was great value for me as I am an average golfer. I will be back to play again.
Mayfair CC now
What a pity to let a one time famous course in Florida fall into such shape. I booked it based on description in Group Golfer email, but found it to be completely different. It looks and plays like a pasture. Greens are still in good shape, but everything else is very poor. Weeds and crabgrass have overrun the fairways, interspersed with bare spots and major bumps. Dead trees and dried up ponds are abundant. Clearly, the drought in Florida has taken its toll, but way more is wrong here. Cart paths are almost non-existent, and incredibly bumpy where they exist. Pro shop staff acted like he didn't care if we were there. Bartender/waitress in restaurant was pleasant and nice, a welcome change from pro shop. I hope someone can get involved and restore this course.
Good times, great rates
We played Mayfair for the first time and enjoyed our experience. The course was, overall good and the greens were great! We were confused at times by the cart paths (lack of) and little to no signage or direction, we had slow people ahead of us but we still had a great time. We will be back soon.
Love it
Me and my golfing family have played 70+ courses in Central Florida and Mayfair is right up at the top of the best value courses in the area. The tees and fairways are perfectly fine, not equal to $50 - $100 courses but at $25 or less for green fees, they are certainly playable. The greens on the other hand are FANTASTIC and easily comparable to the above mentioned overpriced courses. Play it, you won't regret it.
Good Layout with an Old Course Appeal
Mayfair is an old course with a challenging layout. The greens are in good shape but the tee boxes and fairways need water and repair. It's a great course to play but the pace of play can be a bit slow. You can expect close to a 5 hour round each time you play.
Mixed Bag
We had played this course a couple of months ago and we did really enjoyed. We only had time to play 9 holes at that time. We booked again and we played all 18 holes. The surprise was how bad the back 9 holes were kept. I think they are doing some construction with water lines and such. In telling a friend our experience he told us that the back 9 has been in the past not great. Just a bit surprised!
Always a wonderful course!
Looks great, great value, friendly! Loved it! Will go back!
AVOID THIS COURSE!!!
Rich in history but poor in everything else. I'll start by saying I understand this is an OLD course but the conditions are unplayable. They do not spend $1 on maintenance. The "fairways" were nothing but weeds. I almost lost 3 teeth fillings from the millions of potholes all along the cart path and the so called fairways. The gentleman in the clubhouse couldn't even bother to change the pin placement card that was 6" from him. I would not play this course again for free and if it was at the end of my street. Save your money. Anyone who says it is a value for the money is in denial.
Folks, pay NO attention to this review. cjkrause obviously has an issue with the staff at Mayfair. The only things I agree with are the bumpy ride on parts of the course and a surly pro shop attendant who was working yesterday (5/8/17) when we played.
The course needs class
Look the course is owned by the city. All they want are booked tee times. Cheap price its just not a good place to play to many people drinking and carrying on. There is no courtesy if you hit your ball chances are someone will pick it up before you get to it. Save your money
BEST DEAL IN TOWN
Greens in good condition. Nice old PGA layout (1950's) with a good compact design. Fairways and cart paths in poor condition. You get what you pay for and this was a good deal.
My Local Favorite
Since I never know for sure what my day of will be, I usually wait to the last moment to make a tee time - I found out Monday I was off Tuesday. Jumping on Golf Now, I looked for a convenient course/time. Always happy to play Mayfair and once again the course did not disappoint. No that my snowbird brother in law is gone I play as a single and am always happy to get paired up with others. Tuesday was no exception - played with 2 very nice guys. Had a blast. The course was in great shape, the weather was perfect. The fairways were very good, the greens smooth and fast. All in all this is a great course at a great price.
Play Timacuan at 28 bucks then let me know how grate Mayfair tee boxes , fairways and cart paths are.
Been playing that course for 25 years and have never seen it this bad
