The Crossings At Carlsbad
About
Southern California has no shortage of scenic oceanfront golf courses, but the Crossings at Carlsbad still manages to stand out. With the Pacific Ocean to the west and the southern California Peninsular Mountain Ranges to the east, the course's scenery is truly stunning. The golf course will take you across rugged terrain, through canyons and wetlands accentuated with sagebrush and native flora. Water or sand comes into play on almost every hole but if you can manage to hit straight and keep it in the fairway, you'll be generously rewarded. The golf course finishes with one of its toughest holes. You begin with an intimidating tee shot into the coastal breeze with bunkers on the left and a canyon on the right, then you face an approach shot to a severely undulating green framed by trees and bunkers. In addition to the course, the Crossings at Carlsbad also has a lighted practice center.

View from 11th. Tee The Crossings @ Carlsbad Photo submitted by boldsirbrian on 11/27/2012
Tha Crossings
Very pleased with the course, challenging, great views, and good condition. What surprised me was tee time was delayed 30 minutes due to an eight some that showed up late, instead of them waiting three other groups had to wait. Also this eight some tore up every tee box over 18 holes. Not one time did they put mixture in huge divots, both toward fairways and other directions. Very sad indeed, their play was so bad it was a 5 1/2 round. Foursome in front of us left course after 12 holes.
Quirky course
Spectacular vistas on the back 9 with elevation changes. This is a fun, fun, fun course to play if you select the right tee boxes. Outstanding conditions. A bit pricey, but worthwhile, especially with the twilight rate.
Super nice course
Our 3rd time playing here. Excellent condition of all areas on the course. We just love the layout of the course, condition of fairway and greens. Staffs are so kind , friendly.
Beautiful Views - Challenging Course
Overall the course was in excellent condition tee to green. Layout was definitely somewhat challenging but depending on which tee you select should be fair to players of all levels. Really enjoyed the views on this course and the dramatic elevation changes. In town for the weekend and selected this course based off other reviews - was not disappointed. Would definitely play here again.
Great layout, friendly staff
I cannot speak highly enough of this course. Came here because they were offering a free birthday round and immediately booked another round for next week when my dad comes to town. From the staff, to the layout, to the conditions of the course, I couldn't have asked for anything better. I didn't play great but I had more fun this round than I've had in a long time. So many beautiful golf holes and an extremely friendly staff. It slowed down a little on the back because of a tournament but no big deal. Can't wait to play this course again next week. Thank you again for the free birthday round!
Crossings
Played the Blues (6467/71.0/129), thanks to the Crossing @ Carlsbad for a free B-Day round!
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, I played 2 holes in the mist then 7 holes in a drizzle that turned into a steady downpour. I quit after 9.
Which really sucked to be me, because I had looked forward to this round ever since playing here for the 1st time on my B-Day round last year. Everything about this facility was top notch, from the large beautiful clubhouse to the cart attendants who picked up and dropped off your clubs out front before/after the round. No hassle on the B-Day round, got me right out and on the course quickly.
The tees were lush and well maintained.
The fairways would have been good w/o the sloshiness because of the rain.
The rough was lush and generally good to hit out of.
The sand traps were in excellent shape, very well maintained, not going to mark them down because of the rain.
The greens putted really nice. Firm, smooth and medium fast, even while raining I was going by 3-4' consistently.
The layout is excellent, reminds me of Moorpark C.C. Definitely not a beginners course, forced carries and mandatory penalty staked hazards just off most fairways, very unforgiving course for any crooked shots. The green complexes had many mounds and tiers, so chipping as well as putting was challenging here. I liked that you could go low, go high or play the slope of the terrain as you chose on many shots from off the greens. Outstanding course, Definitely recommended.
Beautiful Course
First time at The Crossings. Friendly greeting at the bag drop. Our cart had our tee time on a card with time checks for pace of play, which we appreciated. Our cart was taken around for us. Friendly pro shop staff. Course was beautifully landscaped, though, there were rough spots in the roughs with tufts of grass and bare spots. Greens were in good shape and were challenging. We fell 20 minutes behind pace of play on the back 9, but a Marshall came out to hurry the group in front of us. One thing marred the day. I declined having my clubs cleaned at the cart return. When I asked the man how people got their clubs back to the top, he pointed to the stairs up to the clubhouse, at least two dozen steps. I said, "Really?". He just looked at me. After hauling them up, I found out from another player that they provide a shuttle. I talked to the people in the pro shop and they confirmed this. No apologies offered, but in their.defense, it was probably too strange to believe. So, just know that you should ask to have your clubs taken up. Great experience, otherwise.
Crossings
Despite the mix-up on the reservation, the Crossings was able to get me out between two foursomes. (I was a twosome). The pace of play would have been fine had we been a foursome. For us there was a lot of waiting. The weather was perfect and the course was in great condition. They had a marshal on the 15th hole which is a blind tee shot. That helped a lot. The course is a little expensive for 'out-of-towners, but their Senior rates start at age 55.
Fun in the sun
What a great course. Would recommend this track to any golfer looking for a challenge.
Great Course
Played course for first time on father-son golf trip to San Diego. Being from the Midwest, dramatic elevation changes and scenery made for an enjoyable experience. Weather was perfect and course was in reasonably good shape considering persistent drought conditions and recently aerated greens. Although server in the Canyons grill was unfriendly, the starter was extremely cordial and gave us several tips after inquiring if this was our first time playing. Joined up with two friendly locals on fourth hole who were very helpful regarding nuances of the course and strategies for play. Back nine is one of the most interesting I've ever played, winding through the hills and canyons. A great experience overall and a course that will remain on the list of must plays when in the San Diego area.
Fantastic Course, Great Value, Amazing Layout but challenging
This is one of the most fun courses I've ever played. It's very tough and demanding, but if you can hit the ball straight and carry 200-220+ yards off the tee, you're in for a good round. The greens are crazy and the pin placement was tough but fair when I played. They often have multiple levels in them and it's possible to have 100+ foot putts but they roll very nicely and true. The fairways were in good condition just a little bit dry. The rough was good but it seemed to be thicker on some holes than others but it wasn't very noticeable. Front 9 is fairly flat and back 9 has dramatic elevation changes and a couple tight holes including a blind tee shot. The pace of play was my only real complaint as it took about 4.5 hours to finish, but we got it in before dark so it wasn't too bad. There were a ton of marshals out there keeping everything moving so thumbs up for that. Also never saw a drink cart but I had packed food. I'd recommend that it's probably hard for her to get around such a huge course to everyone. Practice greens were great and the range was good but not great. There's lights to practice after the sun goes down. There's also a GPS in the carts which I think are provided so you know the exact yardage to the pin which was very helpful on a hilly and windy course like this. All in all, take in the fantastic views but bring your A game, you'll need it here.
Like no other
The course layout was very interesting. The elevation changes were amazing. The course was in good shape. The only negative as the pace of play was terrible - 5 hours.
Staff service
Although front desk server was not very emphatic with our needs, the starter of name Jerry make a huge difference. He as very friendly and his attitude invite you to return.
Some good holes
It appears the course is interested in maintaining the pace of play as a card on the cart had time goals for several holes however I was a bit confused as it was set up for a 4.5 hour round. I am old enough to remember when the goal was a 4 hour round but after playing I can see why the extra half hour is allowed. The distance between some of the holes is extreme. Other than that the pace was reasonable. Some of the holes are good but some of them appear to be stuffed in to get the count to 18. We played at a reduced rate of $45 as the greens had recently been punched. The regular price I see on GolfNow I feel to be overpriced even if the greens were good shape.
Phenomenal layout; beautiful, but it can bite you
This is one of the largest (in physical area) courses I've played in 50 years of golf. It's extremes of topography and contour give it an ambiance and degree of challenge that is rare. There are a number of long forced carries--if you can't carry 220 in the air off the tee, don't even try to play the Blues--the White tees will provide enough of a game that you won't worry about the lower overall yardage. We played it three times in five days in late February. The greens had been punched ten days prior and were growing in nicely. They will be excellent in another week, and I'm told, will Stimp in the 12.5-13.0 range in the summer. There are some huge greens, on The Crossings, many with substantial undulations, and the pin position can make a big difference in how the hole must be played. If you can keep the ball straight off the tee, the course is generally forgiving, but stray even a little bit on some holes and it will eat you up. The only negatives were several blind shots, some trouble that is hard to see on approaches, and the Gorilla glass on the GPS readouts on the carts is so dense and blurs the readouts so much that the system is almost unusable. Forget about finding a wayward ball, it'll be down into a ravine, or into the thick bushes that line the fairways and may be unreachable. Staff courtesy and friendliness were superior; nice pro shop; excellent clubhouse with good food. You'll have to pay for range balls and the range is a bit shabby, but it's adequate--and lighted for night practice. All-in-all, a fabulous golf experience and a real value (especially considering that you can pay several times as much at Aviara, just over the hill). Highly recommended. (male; age 69; 9 hcp.)
greens freshly punched and no pre warning til we arrived
great course but could not putt
Great layout, challenging course
My buddy and I really enjoyed this course. It's a challenging course, especially the greens. First time there so difficulty understandable... Can't wait to play there again.
Crossings is an appropriate name
This is a beautiful course and well maintained. The fairways are in great shape and the greens are immaculate. Bunkers have nice soft sand to get out. The whole course has lots of tee shots which require you to carry a ravine. The bunkers on the course are deep. The rough throughout the course is extremely thick. Course management is a must on this course. The front nine has ample fairways and greens that typically slope in only one direction. Back nine fairways become very narrow and multi-tiered greens. Overall, a very challenging course, but lots of fun to play.
pass..
Who in the world builds a golf course like this? Individually the holes are pretty nice but the course has no flow, no rhythm...This place is laid out like it's made of spare parts. The cart paths from hole to hole are the longest I have ever seen. Driving the cart must add 30 minutes to the pace of play!
However, the greens, once you get to them, are nearly majestic...faassssst and true and heaven help you if you get uphill of the cup. There truly are putts that cannot be made from above the hole.
If you play in the morning be warned, the driving range faces east so every shot you hit the sun will blind you when you look up.
gorgeous greens, weird layout..I won't play here again.
An awesome golf outing near the ocean!
An enjoyable golf outing at a high quality course in Carlsbad in a unique setting with ocean views.
