RedTail Golf Club

About
Atypical of many Florida golf courses, RedTail Golf Club is a links-style layout dotted with 100-year-old oak trees and azaleas among its rolling green fairways. Designed by Dave Harman, who also did Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, the course features four lakes with water coming into play on the last five holes. Holes 14-18 work their way around the largest lake on the course, while the finishing hole's approach shot plays over another body of water in front of the clubhouse. Located in rural Sorrento a little more than a half hour north of Orlando, RedTail Golf Club prides itself on catering to "members only."

Still needs work but best I’ve seen it in years
Greens are pretty good fairways are decent, rest of the course needs work but for the money a good round. It’s the best I’ve seen the course in years but it still needs work
First time
The greens were under distress. Snack bar was okay, limited snacks but at least it was open. Love the layout, and in maybe a month the greens and fairways will be in better shape. Definitely will be back.
Disappointed
This course used to be one of my favorites. It’s now in terrible condition and the pace of play was painful.
Losing their greens … again
It’s just so bad that this course cannot maintain good greens for long periods of time. One of the best layouts in the area with great facilities in great staff and they continue to lose their greens.. one of the best and challenging courses in Orlando and for whatever reason they just can’t keep the greens in great shape.
First time
Greens and fairways were in good shape. Big plus there The rest was not. No real rough, it’s dirt and weeds. Tree branches down, sand traps were not maintained. Tee boxes sometimes were just dirt. One trap looked and felt like it was construction dirt not sand.
Course could be challenging, quite a few holes you couldn’t see the green and for first timers it was tough to know what you’re hitting into. There is room for mishits, it’s not tight on most holes but if you’re not in the fairway it’ was tough to sometimes find the ball. There were some really cool challenging holes.
Really surprised that this course is built in a neighborhood but it was not busy, had a few groups in front and some behind. Interesting that people in the neighborhood weren’t playing.
Had a cart girl, although she was out of most items. Still was nice to have. Disappointed the grill closed at 3pm, we were looking forward to a few cold ones after playing.
empty course
I would like to say something good about Redtail but can't. This was a fantastic course 8-10 years ago and you would pay a premium price for it. Weeds everywhere on every hole and lots of them. We played preferred lies on the bare fairways. Bunkers were ok as were the greens. Tee boxes were bare and sandy as were most areas around a lot of greens. It needs a major investment in the numerous millions to restore it to its former glory. We only saw one other person playing on the course., but we did only pay $35. Such a shame.
Disappointed
This course used to be in fantastic shape and was a pleasure to play.
Fairways are now in terrible shape and some of the greens are also not very nice.
Really needs someone to put a lot of money in and bring this course back to what it used to be.
It was also extremely slow with two groups in front of us who didn’t have a clue how to act on a golf course.
Awesome day
Great course, great staff. Awesome day of golf!!!!
Redtail Was a Fun Round
Conditions are the best they have been in 3 years. All but 2 of the greens were in pretty good shape. The fairways are filling in with Bermuda grass - last year they were mostly rye grass but this year much more Bermuda. Sand traps were maintained and playable. It would be great if they would remove the large dead trees because the course is a beauty. I would recommend you give it a try.
Course Conditions
Course is in rough shape. Fairways and areas around bunkers are littered with thick weeds. Most greens were in good condition, a few with some areas you could tell they were working on. Although the on course conditions were below average, this course has a really great layout. With some TLC, this could become a course I’d go back to regularly if they worked on making sure the fairways had good grass and were mostly weed free.
Course Conditions
There was a time when this was one of the premier courses in there. Of late there have been some poor reviews and so a group of us decided to have a go at it for ourselves. We were pleasantly surprised… no where as bad as some of the reviews stated… staff was cordial, pace of play was reasonable, some fairways were a little rough (mainly because of recent heavy rains). The greens weren’t perfect, however, in pretty good shape. We will return!
Disappointed
New ownership here has completely run this once beautiful course into the ground. Been here 4 times in the last two years and it has steadily gotten worse. This used to be the nicest course around.
Bar/restaurant/patio were closed at 3pm on Sunday during March Madness. Was looking forward to a drink and some lunch while watching games after my round. Had to head to a bar down the road and spend my money.
Goat ranch
Yes goat ranch has better grass then this place.. the owners have ran this place into oblivion.. This course did not need the current owners to creat such a disgusting place.. I could and would not recommend this place to my worst enemies.. when you look at the grounds around the clubhouse and pro shop that will be the grass and weeds you will continue to see for 18 fairways.. go to another course for a better experience save your money..
Still Hurting
I SO much want to love this course. I played it 2-3x per year pre-COVID. Unfortunately, the conditions went down and I kept reading bad reviews. It popped on my radar again with a few positive reviews that the "course was back" so I booked. I'm disappointed to say it's not and the conditions were very poor. From tee to green, the biggest problem seems to be a complete lack of effort and attention to detail. For example, LOTS of bare spots everywhere - tees, fairways, rough, etc. Several greens had some patch disease that meant they were unputtable if you had to go through them. Bunkers had not been raked in days or longer. Weeds dominated the rough, bunker sides and even in some fairways. Very think fairways on almost every hole. I LOVE the layout, but course conditions were just awful. It would seem they're mining it for the $40 green fee just to get cashflow with no intent to improve the course. I suggest shutting it down, make the needed improvements and then come back with a $75-100 green fee to support maintenance. It was a side experience on such a great routing.
poor conditions
The entire course is dead grass and weeds. The greens are mostly decent with some really bad spots. The staff acts like they are doing you favor for letting you play the course. They are very unwelcoming.
