Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club

About
Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club is a Scottish links-style layout that is routed through sparkling lakes and carefully preserved conservation areas. The challenging layout features narrow tree-lined fairways and water hazards on all 18 holes. The front nine is short and tight, which contrasts nicely with the longer and more open back nine. Overall though, the golf course is not particularly long by modern standards. It is a shot-maker's course, requiring both accuracy and skilled iron play. The course has a challenging finishing hole that sums up the best elements of the course. This par-4 is a sharp dogleg right with a slew of bunkers and a pond to reckon with. The hole borders a nature preserve, making it the prettiest and most challenging hole on the course.

Thus is a very good course, a good test for the average golfer. The staff was excellent, value - course layout was good, amenities was average since they are going through a major renovation which will be outstanding when completed in December.
My two concerns were the pace of play & the course conditions. I was behind a foursome & threesome that took 2-3 practice swings before hitting & lined up every putt from every angle as if they were at the Masters...come on people. It took 2.5 hrs to play the front 9, thank goodness these 7 hackers went to the clubhouse & I was able to get them behind me.
The course condition DOES NOT reflect on the staff & management but to the those of previous players (I use that term lightly) of the course. On every hole I was filling in divots on the tee boxes & fairways that hackers couldn't or wouldn't take the time to fill. On the greens I fixed a number of ball marks that were either overlooked or just ignored...For those of us that respect the game & the rules, it makes us mad when we have to fix the results of hackers that don't care how they leave the course. For this, remember what was taught to us that do play the game "Leave the course in the same or better condition than you found it"!!!
Worth the Drive
Pricing on everyday Hot Deals makes the extra drive worth it. Course is always in good shape including the greens and the Staff are effecient and friendly. We played the Blue Tees and though still under 6,000 yds, there is still plenty of water and challenge for everyone. Will return.
Challenging but fine course
Everything was good-challenging for our first time round.Hit straight here or water beckons
Greens were really good and generally all well maontained.Great value and returning Monday
Golf for a good time
Challenging. Course management paramount. Great layout. Clubhouse and pro shop under construction and renovation. Golfnow hotdeal is a steal.
Rude people Rangers on your back at every hole Any infractions--you will be kicked off the corse Handicaped walkers beware!
I have a handicapped sticker, which allows me to be 30 ft from the green. I was never given a flag--they didn't have one, so the rangers were all over us at every hole, rude, nasty people. Golfers behind us called the clubhouse many times on us--also screaming at me being 30 ft. The par 3 was too far for me to walk-so, if you are like me--BEWARE of this place. This place is ran by mean people, starting from the front desk. Anyone who has walking issues should stay away from this course, for they will be on you like the FBI security team. Hate the place, the mgmnt.
Great course
This certainly isn't the longest course around, but it is very challenging. Many holes are very tight with lots of water. Rough is thick also so you need to be accurate.
Course is in really great condition. Tre boxes are immaculate, fairways are plush and rough is deep and thick.
We didn't see anyone on the entire round and played in under 3 hours. Found a hot deal for $10 per person. Best deal around for sure.
Lots of water
I think this course is underrated. The USGA needs to rate this course again. Water on every hole makes hitting straight shots imperative.

I couldn't agree more. Although it looks wide open, there is a lot of water, often on both sides of the course, and much of it passes in front of the greens. The course is short, but there are some very tough holes here including a couple of long par 3's and the 18th hole par 4. The 18th is a 411 yard par 4 from the tips with a severe right dog leg. This is as tough a hole as you will find in the area.
August 2016 Round
Great golf course. Very well designed. Need to be very accurate, lots of water, sand traps protecting many greens.
Putting was very difficult, my partner shot an 81 thanks to his off the tee distance and his accurate second shots but neither of us one putted a single hole and he had 3 or 4 puts miss by an inch or less.
I'm in decent shape but the 11AM tee time was a bad idea. This course has virtually no shade and by 12:30 I was gassed. The heat index had to be up at 115 degrees in the sun.
Next time I play here, for sure will be early or late in the day.
Had a great time first 9 holes, back 9 was a struggle as course got harder and harder and sun got stronger and stronger.
Shot Makers Delight
This course belies it's slope rating. Water can come into play everywhere unless you can maneuver around. Spraying the ball will be quickly penalized. Greens are fair and true. Suggest playing when you're bored with wide open layouts. Will definitely return
lots of water
this course is in great shape.many holes require placement off the tee box . although many holes have water you don't have to play in it. the greens were a little slow , but very consistent. the pro shop is fine and you can easily spend some time in the clubhouse. .can't wait to play again
Enjoyable despite the weather
Unfortunately we only were able to play 7 holes due to the weather but enjoyed the course. The course is not long but has water on almost every hole. I have played this course before and it is one of my favorite courses.
A great round on a great course.
We dined and played 18. Everything was excellent.
Course conditions
Course conditions were excellent. The only issue I had was a lot of groups of two on the course for a Sunday at 1300
Tough Course
Not a bad lay out but certainly challenging. Lots of water and narrow fairways. Mostly in great shape with the exception of a couple of holes that had some digging up going on.
Playing after 11
Pace of play at this time is great
So much water.
Even off the first tee, I knew it was going to be challenging. Its not a long course, but the fairways are very narrow and generally slope towards water at every turn. Definitely think about hitting hybrid or iron off a lot of tees. Also, a lot of the water is hidden from view off the tee so be sure to look closely for red stakes. Tees and fairways are in good shape and didn't have to roll my ball once. Some of the greens were being worked on and plugged but in a month they should be ok. Rolled true and didn't have many surprises on the greens, fairly quick. My main gripe is that the course has a ridiculous amount of water and if you don't hit it to the center third of the fairway, you will definitely lose balls. I had 6 drives roll in the drink. If you are a first time player, be extra careful with where you place your shots on the fairway. A player really needs to play this course a few times to get how it goes. Got to play for $14 though, so for that it was basically like playing for free. Probably wont be back as the course layout is just so ridiculously difficult and punishing even to very good shots. Good pro shop, good bar/restaurant, food was great.
lots of water
While this course is short, there is trouble on every hole . A lot of water and wetlands to deal with along with some tight fairways. greens were good shape with a moderate speed. If you hit a long ball off the tee, then you better be playing a hybrid or long iron off the tee on most of the par 4s. I recommend this course with the caveat of, you need to play it 2 or 3 times so that you know where all the trouble is located.
Needs water
The fairways were pretty dry and it looked like some watering was needed. I have played this course over a period of years and in the past it was in better shape. This is a very difficult course as water is in play on almost every hole. Sometimes the water is hidden from view so pay attention of the scorecard.
Fun Layout
The course was in good condition, particularly the fairways. Back tees are just 6500 yards and some holes were quite short. BUT-many greens are shallow or narrow, and there are some extreme doglegs where you really have to drive it long. The par 3's are all medium to long length, and with the wind, we had to drive on a 210 yd par 3. Lots of water, and some of the fairways will roll into them since the course was firm. Looking forward to play again.
Tampa Bay Golf is a good course for seniors.
The course is in a great shape. It is fun playing at the Tampa Bay Golf.
Sour grapes !!!!' They have handicap stickers your just upset because they did not bow to you..
there are rules and playing a 5000 yd course may not be what you should be playing
