The Golf Club of California
About
Situated just outside of Temecula, the Golf Club of California enjoys a scenic landscape provided by the rolling hills north of San Diego. The terrain is ideal for a round of golf, offering verdant acres of countryside blanketed with mature oaks, sycamores, and towering eucalyptus trees and accented with redtop grasses, which border the carefully manicured fairways and greens. Although there is an abundance of trees, the course still has many wide-open areas. The pristine white sand bunkers and colorful wildflowers are a beautiful contrast to the lush green of the course. The layout is not particularly long, but golfers should be prepared for a challenging round of target golf. The course features narrows fairways, plenty of elevation changes, and tricky greens that require an accurate approach. There are also a few meandering creeks that come into play.

Great
Great course, difficult but fun. Be prepared to lose golf balls if this is your first time playing here. Staff is very friendly they’ll even give you pointers on how to play this course and enjoy it.
Impressive Course
I have played a lot of beautiful courses from coast to coast in the USA-Torre Pines to Harbor Town as well as courses in Whistler and Banff Canada. They all have there merit. This course was right up there with so much variety and beautiful rolling terrain. I loved it. My only regret is that it is too far away from Palm Springs to play it again, and again.
THANK YOU for a great golf experience.
More difficult than expected
Overall the course is good but it’s more narrow than expected. There isn’t really any rough, it’s more hard pan grass and dirt. If you can’t control your tee shot this course easily adds numbers to your round.
Course was in fair to good condition. Pace of play was horrible. More than 5 hours to play. No marshal on the course to help speed it up. Will not play on Saturday again. We teed off at about 10:45 and finished at 4:10.
- Accommodating, friendly staff
- Finished the round in 3 hours and 45 minutes
- 3.5 stars for the course condition
- A good value for the money / GolfNow Hot deal
Lots of firsts
Lots of firsts experienced this round:
1.) No carts being ready at check-in (45 minutes prior to round) so needed to walk the 1/4 mile to the range and back and then check again at the pro shop with only 10 minutes to go to tee time.
2.) For such a high end course, range balls were in gawd awful condition
3.) No ball washers/trash cans on course. Was told by starter that this was to "maintain one with nature when on the course." Odd since homes line the entire course, it's carts only, etc.
4.) A distinct members/non-members vibe. The starter sent out two groups of 5 members right before public play which really slowed things down and made for a 5+ hour round with holds on each hole
5.) No rangers. See #4.
6.) The fairways was painted green to obfuscate the effects of the drought.
7.) Almost witnessed my first hole in-one on #7
8.) The snack bar is expensive...$6 for a hot dog???
Could be a really good course but the above really tainted my round.
Great layout. Lots of shot making opportunities.
GCC is one of my favorite courses. Challenging layout. Long par fives and well placed water on the par threes.
Pick the right tees and you'll have fun here.
Keep Those Fairways Green!
I repeat it like a mantra. Don't just keep the greens green! Just not easy when seeing your ball roll off the side of the fairway due to dryness. A lot!! Love the track, staff and clubhouse though. Merry Christmas!

Fairway Maintenance
The course layout and over all condition are OK. It is really worth playing this course. But some fair ways, even near green which was in a good shape, were very tight and solid. Also there were many bare spots. They reminded me of Salt Creek Golf Course in Chula Vista.
I think this course used be more green with beautiful
grass on fairways and in better shape every time I played here. Still a good course but more watering and over-seeding would be required by the time this golf course lost the good reputation in golfers.
Great Course, Great Staff!
When I started playing this course 3 years ago, it was headed down hill and sure to be closing soon. Every time I play here now, it is in better and better shape. The fairways and greens have made a tremendous improvement and provide a great test of golf. The roughs are a little bare, but when speaking with the staff, the roughs are next on improvements list. Always a fun round of golf and staff is always welcoming!
did not play
Had a 1210 tee time booked through golf now with a confirmation number booked on the 20th. arrived at course and staff stated that they gave our tee time to members, staff was almost rude and did not apologize and stated this was a golf now issue. They semi offered to try and get us out sometime after 1 pm but would not commit to a time. still trying to contact golf now but calls getting forward to a voicemail. wasted day with foursome driving an average of 45 mins to play. Not even a phone call to inform us? really not sure who to blame but not happy

Booking problem
The course staff blamed Golf Now for not coordinating the online tee times with the course. We lucked out because we were a twosome and they started us on the back 9. They’re we’re a lot of unhappy golfers who couldn’t get on the course. It was a wait to get a cart then we went off. We were the lucky ones. Whoever was responsible should get the bad review.
Changing
I went early to the course because they have always had range balls for free and I wanted to work on my driver. That has changed. No more free balls. The chipping/putting green was a little rough but the course greens were near perfect.
Lots of courses, including this one, are draining their ponds and streams. Kind of disappointing. But the overall course conditions were very good. Still one of my favorite courses. And we got a smoking deal. Usually pay upwards of $50 for this course.
