Temporary Green
I really like this course but lately they have a Temporary green on #4 & they had huge trucks driving along the cart path on certain holes. On the first green they had a guy installing a new drainage system in the green side bunker...very noisy.
However, I'm sure it will be worth it by spring/summer.
Great staff!
great experience/value, first time on the course
first time I played the course, great experience, from walking into the club house.
Got a burger before the the round and it was excellent. Staff at the grill was great, willing to run the food out to us. don't get that kind of service often.
Course is open, and good for players of all levels. great for 90 to 95% of golfers, might be too easy for some advanced/low handicappers.
Good public course
Fairly easy straight forward course. My wife and i played and both enjoyed ourselves. Greens are very fast and hard but consistent A couple of blind shots for first time players but hit it straight and you were ok. The staff were very kind considerate and helpful. One hole (#4) was under construction . Range and chipping/putting areas left a lot to be desired. We both agreed that the course was well worth the money and will return soon. FYI call ahead on #9 tee and order the hot dog.... Yummy!
Empire is a great track!
I have no qualms with the course, don’t like to end on a p3 but it works for Pasatiemp. I wish the Marshalls were more out to checkout pace of play and fix ball marks on greens that apparently no men’s group member whom was on the course before us could fix! But hey it’s golf in February and I was in shorts!
Always busy but really nice condition.
Sand in great shape and fairways drained amazingly. Lots of roll In January-what!!
Nice course terrible staff
Fairly nice course. Greens were not taking care of very well. Only staff that I found treated us well were the ones in the cafe. Martial was a jerk. They took out the flags on the last 4 holes before we got to them because he wanted to go home. Second time this has happened. Terrible service in the pro shop as well.
Empire Ranch
The premier track in the area..!! Great course that provides a challenge for all levels..!! If you play ER, you will not be disappointed..!!!
Buyer Be Aware
I read a lot of reviews and they are informative but tend to be more positive than not and ratings, are as they say, over rated. My kids live nearby and I’ve played this course (maybe 1/2 dozen times)since it opened in Folsom, CA. The overpriced rack rate charged when it was new was not worth it then and certainly is not now. Admittedly it is winter time and maintenance tends to be scarce on many courses but the maintenance at Empire Ranch leaves a lot to be desired. That said, I appreciate the heavy discounted Golf Now rate but the condition of the course is reminiscent of Haggin Oaks where the City of Sacramento uses it as a cash cow and “redirects” (steels) the maintenance budget. Because it’s the only game in “that town”and that town appears to be higher income they may hang on but likely not prosper. As a Bean Counter I know all too well what happens when you cut maintenance budgets. It can be the beginning of the end-financial death spiral. Competition will have the final word. Just look at Auburn Valley. Let’s see what the new owner there will do. Do what Ancil Hoffman does not Haggin Oaks.
Great Value
I really enjoyed my round, and will play there again. Greens were much faster on the front, but fair. Some greens are very challenging, because being a course set in the foothills, they are hard to read, But that's what makes it fun.
Great Course
Course is well kept and fun to play. It is challenging for a person of my golf experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful and help make the day an enjoyable experience.
Nice course
Open fairways with above average greens. Fun to play
Course is improving
My wife and I play this course 3-5 times a week (triple play members). Summertime saw significant course deterioration but the last month or so has seen an incredible comeback. The new superintendent is really on top of things. Aprons/approaches have been punched and seeded. The new divot mix is excellent and already lots of new grass is coming up. The leaky pipes on holes 3 and 4 have been repaired. All in all great strides. I'll be happy to keep my membership up.
Course conditions really improving
The impact of the new superintendent is obvious, with the exception of the bunkers, the overall course conditions are really improving.
The traps will require a significant investment before they are acceptable.
