Alaqua Country Club
About
Alaqua Country Club was designed by golf legend Gary Player and opened in 1988. Player put his personal stamp on the private 18-hole golf course, with its elevated tees and other features that make it playable for his level of golfer as well as high handicappers.
Alaqua Country Club leads off with a 501-yard par-5 hole, a picturesque tee shot from an elevated tee. There is water on the left all the way to the green and a wooded area on the right. The fairway narrows the last 50 yards to the green.
The golf course measures 6,662 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.3, and it has a slope rating of 129 on Bermuda grass

This is a course with a scenic but challenging layout.
Although it is a shorter course distance wise, it definately makes up for it with how challenging it is. Overall it was a pleasant course to play at a good price. I would love to play it again soon
Great wildlife.
Found course in average shape. Greens on the slow side, back tee box a little worn out. The course is showing signs of improvement.
Once prestigious course now suffers.
Once prestigious course now suffers. Once private now allows public place. The course has a very nice, challenging layout. My expectations were high. The conditions were good, not great. The staff was not friendly at all. I see why this once private exclusive course is now open to the public. They are begging for play. The staff made us feel unwelcome since we were not members.
Overall decent course, need some attention in areas.
Overall the course was pretty decent. The cart path need some attention as some spots are very rough and not drive-able. The greens were pretty true and straight for putting, but several had some grass damage (possibly fungus related). The fairways are in fairly decent shape. There are a lot of water hazards which can make it a difficult course, but not overly challenging. The scenery of homes, vegetation and fountains make it pleasant while your playing. The staff was friendly and helpful and very accommodating. Make sure you bring some bug spray/repellent because the "No-see-ums" will eat you alive if you don't.
Great course ~ beautiful
First time playing course - beautiful had some patchy spots but overall nice. The attendant for the carts was nowhere we put our own bags on the carts, was never asked if we wanted water, staff was a little on the rude side I would have to say, people should all be traeted the same.
enjoyed the course
They need a gps system or layouts of the course. Greens were spotty in places. The wildlife was great.
Great course, lots of wildlife.
This course had some ridiculous houses. Some of the views from the back tees were very nice to look at, and there was all kinds of wildlife all around the course. Beautiful clubhouse.
A beautiful day out on a course in lovely condition and very few people.
Millionaires golf;we hardly saw a soul on the course but there was plenty of interesting wildlife.heron abounded, hawks, small deer and a huge alligator.Plenty of water which added to the natural, beauty of the layout but it was fairly placed so you could see it when you played your shot so no exercises when you went in.Greens were quite firm but would hold the ball ok if you can put a bit of backspin on.Fairways are fairly generous and rough in neat condition so you rarely get a very poor lie.The houses that can be seen from the course are not intrusive and of a very high standard so heighten the experience rather than detract from it.
Tight,challenging course needing some T.L.C.
Played here last year in March/April with my wife-liked it so much we played twice in quick succession.Came back with golf buddies from Scotland in mid-May-course much harder on windy days! This time, noticed a marked deterioration in course condition-greens rough and slow, some v. heavily sanded- tees looking scruffier than I remembered- a pity, as I like the layout and the wildlife. The par 3 13th. remains a favourite challenge! Cartpaths need attention.
some of the tee boxes and greens require improvement but otherwise a great layout and very good value for the money
Excellent variety of holes, abundant wildlife (observed deer near the 16th green on each of the last 3 outings), not crowded and a pleasure to play. Some tee boxes and a few greens need attention. I have encountered hundreds of tiny black "no-see-ums" on the course but the use of bug spray generally helps to keep them away. I would otherwise rate this course as 5 stars.
Great value
Course is very narrow with lots of water. The greens were average and fairways need a little work, but it was a great value for the cost ($30).
exciting to play and challenging
be sure to take plenty of bug spray , im still itching 4 days later. Our cart ran out of power on the 15 th hole and we had to push it to the next 3 holes finaly on the 18th someone saw us and assited us. If not for all the bugs and the cart problem it was a very exciting course and well laid out to make it very challenging in selection of clubs to use.
Good course. Greens not so good.
Love the layout. Fairways were OK, but tee boxes and greens are in rough shape.
Dissappointed
After seeing all kinds of great reviews for Alaqua CC, I thought I would give it a try. I had never played a Gary Player design and wanted to see his design style. I am not sure what caliber of course other reviewers were used to playing, but I was thoroughly dissappointed in this course. I am a 3 handicap and play several courses in the Orlando area. This course is shorter than most and very tight and unforgiving. Greens are tiny but relatively flat and lacking character. Fairways are narrow with lakes/ woods engulfing most of them. Bunkers were shallow and maintained rather well.
Dissapointments: From the first green, all greens seem to lacking in the grass department. Every green had AT LEAST one area where had died and was replaced with top dressing. The good areas of the greens rolled about an 8 on the stimp. Back tee boxes were in very bad shape with only about 30% grass cover. Rough was intermittent. Also, fair warning, bring bug spray. My foursome looked like we all had chicken pox as the biting gnats were almost unbearable. The course had some interesting design aspect, but looked tired and overplayed.
Wonderful experience, great value, good fun
Beaufiful setting, perfect venue to play and practice all manner of the game. Bunkers were a bit uneven in terms of quality and consistency, which made it all the more important to stay out of them! The staff was remarkably friendly. Lots of choices when it comes to playing Florida, I will definitely play again when in the area.
Alaqua watch for their great deals
Alaqua has had some great deals lately on Golfnow.com I was able to play a very nice course, in great shape, with lots of challenges along the way. The only place I can say was not perfect were the tee boxes.
I do have a bone to pick though I tend to set up the Tee times and before 2013 each tee time was counted for the qualifiers. this year each reservation group counts as one qualifier. We usually play in a twosome but sometimes more. It just seems trivial amount to have the customer even think about this.
example I made approximately 35 reservations on golf now in 2011 and 34 in 2012 I will probably keep doing so, but I have also been playing enough now that the golf shops are getting to know me, so I could just give them a call to make reservations. Just a thought
Great Job! Excellent Condition!
I play Alaqua CC all the time. It is the best condition I have seen. The greens are really nice and the ball rolls great. Fairways also were in top condition. You can't beat the scenery with the deer and turkey. You may even see and bear and some cubs. Staff is friendly and it is a great place to go.
Tight and Challenging, but FUN!
Nice layout, a bit tight on some holes and and has water in play on all but 5 or 6 holes, but still is a fun course. Small pro shop, staff was friendly. Course in good shape, a few tee boxes chewed up but it's January! Fairways and Greens are in good shape. GolfNow deal was a bargain. Very night neighborhood and some great houses as well.
This course is worth the money
This course is in very good condition
Green is great shape, fairway and tee ground as well
I really like to play here again
