Alaqua Country Club
About
Alaqua Country Club was designed by golf legend Gary Player and opened in 1988. Player put his personal stamp on the private 18-hole golf course, with its elevated tees and other features that make it playable for his level of golfer as well as high handicappers.
Alaqua Country Club leads off with a 501-yard par-5 hole, a picturesque tee shot from an elevated tee. There is water on the left all the way to the green and a wooded area on the right. The fairway narrows the last 50 yards to the green.
The golf course measures 6,662 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.3, and it has a slope rating of 129 on Bermuda grass

Challenging Layout....Seen Better Days
Used to be Alaqua Country Club was that course you could only read about or play only by invite with a member. Now, due to economic difficulties this exclusive club is now available to the unwashed masses. Thankfully, they are accommodating and friendly which helps serve an enjoyable day of golf on a challenging layout. The course, I'm sure, has seen better days in its conditioning. The greens are average in speed and condition. Not what you'd expect from a quality layout but again, you wouldn't be playing a pristine Alaqua in these bad economic times. All in all, a great chance to glimpse a great layout at great pricing that once was not accessible.
Must Play
One of the best courses in Central Florida. Normally private but now letting on some outside play...thank you GolfNow!
Disappointing experience
I'm sorry to say that this was a disappointing experience. This was the first time I've played at Alaqua and probably the last. It's crazy that this course isn't better taken care of and better managed because it could be very beautiful.
Fantastic course, great layout and well manicured.
I played the course on January 4, 2013 and it was raining the entire time we played. I have played many courses throughout Florida and the USA and this is one of my favorites. They maintain the course as well as any, staff is extremely friendly, and the layout is truely one you can enjoy at any level of play. The elevated tee boxes are a plus. In addtion there are lots of deer and turkey around to see.
Great semi-private course
Good Course, TONS of water so if you suffer from the average golfer shanks, bring tons of balls.
Hole renovation/changes since I played this course
Tight tree/waterlined pristine course w/ fast greens. Fairways & tee boxea were in great condition. Tough layout. Tougher than Orange County National, Mystic Dunes, or Celebration although in about same category. Will play again.
too bad
the whole course is not consistence, some holes beautiful, some burned out, bug eaten ect.. in good shape this course is superior, but putting speed inconsistent as well as upkeep :-( on the greens, some fairways also need attention, no cart service, and terrible construction where they are tearing up a great hole #10 to accommodate more houses. golf is not foremost here :-(, all in all a good 25.00 course but certainly not worth more.
Good pace of play, challenging and good layout
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Good value for price.
Played course last year and thought it was in great shape.
This year felt greens could have been better tended. Overall,
Enjoyed course and very pleased to have had the opportunity to play alaqua.
A good small course
It is a small course with small greens. But was maintained enough, especially the fairways and greens. Pace of play was excellent. There as no one in front or behind us. Allowing us to take our time. And we still finished in just over 3 hours. So made great time. I would play this course again!
Need work
The course may play short on the card but the lay out is the challenge. It has small greens and narrow fairways with hazards at every turn. The course need some work on a few greens and a lot of tee boxes.
A great hidden gem.
I will note that the "Tips" teebox were on average in pretty rough shape around the course. But this was obviously due to the fact that since construction trees have grown up around them and they are in the shade far too often during the day and without air flow.
The course was extremely challenging, water comes into play on the majority of the holes. Very enjoyable even though I was not playing at the top of my game.
Lots of wildlife to see. Gators (quite a few), deer, turkeys.
The course was a little rough just because of the amount of rain that had fallen in the past few days but it was obviously very well maintained and still looked it through the sogginess.
Greens are in great shape. Challenging course
The greens were in great shape. I like this course because it's a little more challenging than others. Play was a little slow but other that it was a good course to play.
not what I expected
not a decent t-box the entire round.....cart paths were in need of extensive repair
One of my favorite courses
The folks here are super nice but the greens need help and the pace of play is slow
Course is tough but fair if you think about each shot.
The course selection is very good and the time available to play are very good options.
Nice Place
My husband and I loved this course and had a great time. Yes a bit windy at times but overall wonderful outlay of course and did make us work for a good score.
Very narrow, small greens
The course is somewhat tight and narrow, and the greens are some of the smallest in the area. However, the course is beautiful and challenging to play. My biggest complaint was the pace. It took over 5 hours to play a round and at one point there were 5 groups on the 10th hole!!!
Great Track, just a little muddy
Always have enjoyed this course, challenging layout, some greens are a bit rough, and can get muddy in some areas but all in all a good round.
Challending Masterpiece
This is only the second time I have played this course and I love it. It is not a course for beginners or high handicappers. The course is pretty well maintained and every hole is a challenge and requires you to think. It reminds me of a golf course pros would play and love the challenge. I am a low handicapper but was pleased to get away with a 83. I'll be back.
fabulous
What a beautiful course, great condition, very challenging to play, fancy houses and great woodland and wet areas.
The fairways are fairly narrow with a lot of water and woods that you can't play out of....bring lots of balls and don't plan on hitting long, plan to hitting accurately.
If you don't like being called "sir" by the staff, just get use to it. They are used to members only and still treat us walk ons like we are important to them.
This course was recently private and opening to the public has caused a bit of wear to the fairways. Hey you, put sand in your divots.
