Alaqua Country Club
About
Alaqua Country Club was designed by golf legend Gary Player and opened in 1988. Player put his personal stamp on the private 18-hole golf course, with its elevated tees and other features that make it playable for his level of golfer as well as high handicappers.
Alaqua Country Club leads off with a 501-yard par-5 hole, a picturesque tee shot from an elevated tee. There is water on the left all the way to the green and a wooded area on the right. The fairway narrows the last 50 yards to the green.
The golf course measures 6,662 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.3, and it has a slope rating of 129 on Bermuda grass

Very Fair Layout
What a great round of golf. Staff, wildlife, great conditions, and did I mention wildlife. Signage directing you from the 9th hole to the 10th tee would have made it easier. I am glad I had my handheld GPS marking the hazards. If not I may have driven the ball right thru the fairway. As long as it is open to the public we will return. Troy made the day with his friendly attitude and helpful tips. If you have the chance to play this course DO IT!
Nice elevated tee boxes
A must play course........................................................
Always a great course to play!
Greens roll nice, fairways are in good shape and the rough is playable.
This course was an unexpected value in nice condition
The course was fair and fun. We enjoyed the wide open feel and the unexpected wildlife (plenty of deer). Would definitely play this course again!
Course has lots of construction going on?
Played Alaqua CC tight driving, but currently greens in less than average condition, and lots of construction going on 10 and 18 both under construction. Currently great value, but course is below average right now.
Nice course, spotted deer in close proximity several times on the back nine.
Tee time was 12 noon. Not a long golf course but has a tight layout making it challenging. The course would be pristine if not for some greens and tee boxes. The course was a little bit swampy and the speed of the greens were inconsistent, specially in the front nine where a few greens had some crabgrass. Overall a nice design with the fairways in above average condition.
Greens are better, scenic beauty and wildlife abundant
This course is getting better every time I play it. Holes 10 and 18 are sorted out now and i love the new green on 18. Everything is in nice condition and that makes this a can't lose deal!
Beatiful layout, well maintained, but rough is too thick.
It's a beautiful, well maintained course. Lots of water. You'll probably see gators, turtles, wild turkeys and deer. I do wish the rough wasn't so thick...often difficult to impossible to find a ball just off the fairway and extremely difficult to hit out of the rough with a decent shot. For enjoyment improve your lie.
This course should be plowed under and redone.
The day started by not getting through the gate because the person in the pro shop didn't listen to the guard when he gave him the name of the party.
The first green is when we found out that there was sand on the greens and the approaches were so wet you couldn't bump and run the ball in and with the sand the greens wouldn't take an approach shot. The sand was in piles some places it was smooth and you could actually see the grass, some the sand was so thick you couldn't. There were clumps of sand on most greens.
The trip to number 10 tee was a disaster. They should have told us at the start that we couldn't go to the 10th the usual way, instead we drove out there and had to listen to construction worker giving us a hard time because they were blocking the cart path and we want to pass. Our second cart drove around for 20 minutes listening to the lame directions the cart boy gave him. Nothing was marked, that is until we were leaving for the day after several other groups had the same problem.
All in all it wasn't worth the money and we paid $8 and I feel like I was taken.
Beautiful course
As soon as we realized that Gary Player had designed Alaqua we knew we were in for a treat as we scrambled up to the first tee box. Spectacular holes followed with challenging greens, which still run true despite the recent sanding. If you are on vacation, don't leave Florida without playing this course. If you are a resident, then make it a regular visit.
Thank You for Opening Your Course To The Public
Country Club setting course and facilities at reachable green cost. Well maintained and spectacular views all around including wild life. I have set this course as a must play while it is open to the public. Sincere thank you to all Alaqua residents and your patience with us. Your gratitude is not in vain. It has been an honor to play your pristine course. It offers tee settings to all golfers' talent (within reason). This is not a beginners course, it is difficult from any tee and will slow down play. I suggest if you are a beginner to please play best ball with your fellow player(s). This is true for any course with slope rating above 125 (my opinion).See you again soon! Ze
Ps Where is the alligator? I miss him/her!
Best value in the area
Great course, good condition. Tee boxes need some work. I recommend playing from gold or black. The tees on these boxes are in better condition. Greens and bunkers were in great shape. Good food at the clubhouse. Overall best value in the area. Alaqua and dubs dread are my to go to courses. I like alaqua because I can really unload one with the driver. Need to be accurate as course is narrow.
This course has everything a golfer needs to challenge his or her skills.
I personally had a great experience. The course tested areas of my game that other courses sometimes don't necessarily challenge. Most fairways require precise tee shots as they are very narrow, and not an advantage even for a controlled slice like mine. Hazards are abundant, mostly water that runs parallel to fairways and often thru them. Course management is a must! GPS is a great tool here, because the score cards do not offer much help. I will definitely play at Alaqua again to see how much I can improve here.
Beautiful course
Loved this course! Challenging and fun with some tough holes. Played in the afternoon and saw plenty of deer, peacocks, and hawks.
Beautiful course
I had a great day out golfing here! Look forward to coming back soon.
It's a gem if you're patient
I had a wonderful day and played with some great guys. I was a single and got paired up. Right from the first hole, the course challenges you to hit it straight and to be patient. Risk-reward isn't something the average hitter ought to consider here. Being patient and taking advantage of some of the wider fairways on the back and some of the bigger greens along the way will definitely pay off. The course was in excellent shape although some of the tee boxes were not the yardage on the card. We saw a herd of deer eating grass around the 11th green and turkeys were everywhere.
Excellent course.
I truly enjoyed playing the course for the first time. The greens are in very good condition. It is very scenic with the nature animals (deers) all aroung. I look forward to playing the course in the next week.
Great Course
This was an excellent course but got rained out after 6 holes. Didn't get to finish my 18 holes. Didn't ask about a rain check, though I'm sure they would have if asked.
Nice Layout
Recently have redone the 10th & 18th holes to accommodate some new homes, MONEY rules. One of the nicer layouts in the area, not a boring course. Getting in the gate can be difficult. Must have a photo ID & if the pro shop has not advised the gate guy that you're coming, plan on sitting there for a time. Paranoia rules, also.
A must play!
Alaqua is cheap now because they doing a lot of work to improve the course. It was by far the best course I have played in a long time. The 18th green is not completed and looks and plays great. A lot of nature and surrounded by million dollar homes made for some great views. A MUST PLAY at the reduced rates they are offering.
