Many varied challenges
OK ... first ... what the heck is with the $1 fee to check in ?!???
I've already paid for the round and the card, so WTH?
Aside, it's a course that's got a number of differently-challenging holes. Some requiring target practice to the green. Some blind hills and curves. Some obstacles (like big trees or mid-fairway bunkers). Some holes that are in hill-created wind channels, that you might not suspect from ground-level. I'd definitely play again, even though the initial annoyance of being asked for more money upon check-in is quite distasteful, and the fairways seem to need a great deal of re-seeding in places.
Teed off at 1:50 last Friday we were stuck behind 3 groups of six players some reunion tournament. Got 15 holes in before it got dark. Really was hoping to play 18. The pro shop was fully aware what was happening but did nothing.
Dry times
The layout makes this course interesting and fun. Over all the course could use some work. Have been told by local players that have trouble securing water. So lots of dry and bare spots . Still fun and challenging course. Pace was good at just under 4 hrs.price makes playing here worth while.
Another Course On the Brink
This course used to be well maintained, highly regarded for its fast greens, and lots of play. Not so any more. Pretty ragged with no sand in the bunkers, spotty and rough greens. In all fairness, they are hurting for water so they do the best they can. I hear this course is going to 9 holes in a couple of years, which will be the end of Franklin Canyon.
This course is very dry
The course had a lot of dry patches, we were hitting off dirt a couple of times. The conditions of the course did not merit the green fees.
In sad condition
I’ve played this course often. But generally not in summer months. Their source of water is practically non existent. Fairways do not appear to be watered under 150 yards out. Areas that are watered were in poor condition. Trying to find a patch of weed to place your ball on was difficult. Wait till season brings some rain before playing.
slow play
took over 3 hours for 9 holes
there was no marshal to move the pace faster
Nice folks
I have enjoyed this course 3 times this past year.
Not too challenging unless the wind is up for a mid handicap player.
I have found both the employees friendly and knowledgeable.
Good
Have played this course many times before Have always liked it.
FC hot deal
FC in good condition with breeze providing relief from warm June temps, but a challenge on some holes. Hot deal was great value. Just under 4 1/2 hours with cart. Single walk-on joined and was a nice guy. All in all a good day and would return.
For the value? Best in the bay
A 4 hour round on a Friday. Nuff said!!! It was in the middle of the hot streak but the course was in perfect condition, no dead grass, and the greens we're actually slow not super fast like everywhere else in the bay when it gets hot. Staff was super nice and even helped us save some $!!! It was 105 in the bay but only 90 tucked away in Franklin Canyon. Didn't wait ONCE the entire round, not even a second. I'll be back, so you people stay away; let's keep this a gem :-P five stars!!!
Played Franklin Canyon yesterday with my son and 2 others. Knew we might be in for a long day as it was a Saturday and the group in front of us seemed to be new to the game. But thats not a problem as long as folks try to keep pace and maintain the etiquette that makes golf a great game. But as I was standing on the 8th tee after over 3 hours on the course and asked a marshall for assitance in asking the group ahead to try and keep an appropriate pace of play (they were 1 and 1/2 holes behind the group in front of them at that point) I was not helped but lectured about how 'everyone has their own level and pace of play'. Wow, no concern for the dozens of players behind these guys whose round was being ruined. Pace of play is the number one problem in golf today and this marshall, whose whole existence is to keep things moving on the course, just blows me off. Have them skip a hole to catch up for heavens sake, thats the norm most everywhere else. Very unfortunate that a decent course 10 minutes from my home will never see me again because they wish to maintain the unalienable right of they few to ruin the day for the many. I won't be back.
Nice challenging course
Fun and well kept course. Lots of hazzards so you have to be accurate otherwise you will lose a lot of golf balls.
Hello, and thank you for the 4-star review! We are glad to see you had an enjoyable round and friendly experience with us. Thank you for playing our course here at Franklin Canyon, and we hope to see you again soon.
