Good
Have played this course many times before Have always liked it.
FC hot deal
FC in good condition with breeze providing relief from warm June temps, but a challenge on some holes. Hot deal was great value. Just under 4 1/2 hours with cart. Single walk-on joined and was a nice guy. All in all a good day and would return.
For the value? Best in the bay
A 4 hour round on a Friday. Nuff said!!! It was in the middle of the hot streak but the course was in perfect condition, no dead grass, and the greens we're actually slow not super fast like everywhere else in the bay when it gets hot. Staff was super nice and even helped us save some $!!! It was 105 in the bay but only 90 tucked away in Franklin Canyon. Didn't wait ONCE the entire round, not even a second. I'll be back, so you people stay away; let's keep this a gem :-P five stars!!!
Played Franklin Canyon yesterday with my son and 2 others. Knew we might be in for a long day as it was a Saturday and the group in front of us seemed to be new to the game. But thats not a problem as long as folks try to keep pace and maintain the etiquette that makes golf a great game. But as I was standing on the 8th tee after over 3 hours on the course and asked a marshall for assitance in asking the group ahead to try and keep an appropriate pace of play (they were 1 and 1/2 holes behind the group in front of them at that point) I was not helped but lectured about how 'everyone has their own level and pace of play'. Wow, no concern for the dozens of players behind these guys whose round was being ruined. Pace of play is the number one problem in golf today and this marshall, whose whole existence is to keep things moving on the course, just blows me off. Have them skip a hole to catch up for heavens sake, thats the norm most everywhere else. Very unfortunate that a decent course 10 minutes from my home will never see me again because they wish to maintain the unalienable right of they few to ruin the day for the many. I won't be back.
Nice challenging course
Fun and well kept course. Lots of hazzards so you have to be accurate otherwise you will lose a lot of golf balls.
We played Franklin Canyon off Highway 4 in Hercules at
noon as a twosome and finished in about 4 hours.
The course is a mixture of level and hillside surfaces with views of surrounding hillside, some water and some mature trees.
The greens were in good condition, fairways were green with some bare spots, but generally good.
Sandtraps are being worked on as we played.
Overall, a good value.
Beautful day
We enjoyed the course very much as the weather was nice and the pace was smooth.
Ripe for Play
Franklin Canyon is ripe for play right now. Quick greens that are true when above hole, tricky sideways. 1, 2, 13, and 17 are quick right now.
Had the French Fries, ask for well done you will not be disappointed . Decent bar.
Back to the course, back nine from back tees will put some trees in your face. Work ball left right and high and low, all the shots. Fun stuff.
Unexpected
I was asked to pay one dollar for water fee which I thought the round was “paid in full”. The amount was not the issue, but the added procedure was terrible. I was not prepared to carry money at that time!
Course in poor condition
In the past I've enjoyed playing this course it has a very interesting layout. I played on April 26th and the course condition has really deteriorated in the last couple months. The tea boxes are in horrible condition and the fairways are already drying out. I would not recommend playing this course.
We played Franklin Canyon off Highway 4 as a foursome and finished in about 4.5 hours.
Good views of surrounding hills, lots of birds and some wildlife.
The course is a mixture of some level fairways and some hillside, greens were mowed and in good condition, fairways typical California.
Overall an interesting combination of trees , sand traps and rough.
High handicappers, bring some extra balls.
Overall a great course and priced reasonably.
Worth the drive.
Best value in the Bay area
Great value on a very nice golf course. Challenging yet fair!
Much improved !
I stayed away from ththis s course for several months due to poor course conditions. Fairways st that time were hard and bare with n many areas. It was probably due to drought conditions.
I was pleasantly surprised that this time the fairways were much improved. You could actually take a divot with your pitches. Greens were relatively good although not sure on what they would read on stimp Meyer.
Enjoyed my round.
Franklin Canyon
Took 5hr 15 min to play. Need I say more. No ranger seen all day to speed up play.
I had the exact opposite opinion on the 24th. Course was fabulous! Greens very good and course was green. Funny how two people can see the course differently. Btw I play to a +1.7. Not just a handicap I play to it. Tee boxes only thing that needs attention at this time. This place gets wet in the winter so get it now!
