Great course but back nine pace of play

Love the course but pace of play is very slow. Always a long wait in back nine.

Fair Enough Today

Windy, makes it a challenge here, course was fair and for the $30 with cart I paid at the shop(not golf now) was all I could ask for out of a course that was once in better condition but for the money was fair today. Course has seen better days but it wasn’t dry as Irons had nice divots with plenty of grass , the rough was thick and in some places new (12) which catches the ball rather than realeasing it off the slope into the canyon, right , and the greens good. I’d play again in these conditions any day.

Hope they don’t close. I noticed lots of trees gone but same as many courses…

OAK Tree on 7 looks good again!

Not in good Shape

This course is on its last leg. I won't be playing here again until they make major investments into the course. There are just way too many great courses in the Bay Area to play here again.

A must play course

Franklin Canyon has history for all West County golfers and the layout, design and conditions are great right now. I just hope they are able to keep the course open, (rumors that it will close), because it is an option to play for all Contra Costa residents.

Pace was great, 3.5 hours for 18 holes and we never had to wait or feel pressured to speed up.

Franklin Canyon golf course

Please keep this golf course open. If you close this golf course there will be nowhere else to play in the Bay Area in the East Bay besides Diablo-Creek and Boundary oaks. 🙏🏽

Franklin Canyon Goes On

I heard from a fellow player that Franklin is no longer going to be sold- great news for golfers, as this is one of the prettiest layouts around: surrounded by green rolling hills, winding it's way through valleys, and you're going to be accompanied by plenty of wildlife.

Greens were in exceptional condition right now- fast and smooth. Rest of the course a little shaggy. Hopefully they will put some money into fixing it up a little now, although hopefully not so much that prices go up.

Still Sad

I wasn't going to write a review because it's pretty well known Franklin Canyon is on its death bed (course closure announced in May 2024 for conversion to a luxury RV park and partial acquisition by the John Muir Land Trust).

However, there is a super suspicious five-star review from a few weeks ago that prompted me to post.

Our round on a Friday mid-day was just shy of five hours. The bunkers were all hardpan. Greens were terrible and if you weren't in the fairway you were in weeds that showed no signs of recent mowing.

Our cart seats were disgusting...I could go on.

100% my last time playing here. If it was a four hour round, I might be back and walk, but given the imminent demise, with no end date....it's like an excuse for the course to let it go down the drain.

The only positive for my round was that I was in the right mindset. I new it was going to be less than stellar, but I figured playing on a weekday would at least yield a shorter round. Nope.

Underrated

Great layout. Challenges all handicaps. Carts were set up with names assigned already upon arrival for just standard public rounds.

Great greenskeeping. Rivals places charging 3x and pace of play is better than those.

Will definitely play again.

The course, for the most part was in good shape. We were told the bar/restaurant area would be open until 4:00, but when we got there at 3:30, it was closed.

Most fairways were in decent shape. Greens were in good shape. Very disappointed that the bar area was closed when we finished at 4 pm.
