Mud City Next to Hardpan Photo submitted by danstone360 on 06/29/2020
Expecting to close and it shows
They are not taking care of the course any more. It looks like they have stopped watering everything but the greens. The fairways are now hardpan. Not worth the money better to go to Hiddenbrooke or Tilden
Terrible condition, unfriendly staff
First off, I generally love this course. But yesterday I got there a bit early to warm up and the guy working behind the desk tried to force us on the course 10 minutes before our tee time. I said we wanted time to warm up and he said “this is my golf course you’ll do what I say!” The course itself was in terrible condition, and I’m not just saying that. Massive brown patches everywhere, but then some other spots were massively overwatered causing puddles and golf cart mud tracks in the fairway. Plus the loud groundskeeper utility vehicles were roaring within earshot most of the round. The few positives about this experience was that the guy making food is awesome and puts in those extra details to make sure meals and drinks are satisfactory. Plus I genuinely like this course design and usually have a good time here, but unfortunately this time the course was in awful condition and the guy working the desk was a total…. Well, not a gentleman.
Nice but could be better conditions
First time playing there and noticed all the brown spots on the fairways. Greens were ok but could be better.
Course is being sold
I probably had 800 yards of rollout because the fairways were so hard. I hit multiple shots off dirt. The course is not being maintained very well since it's closing soon. Sadly because of that it's not worth playing much unless you get a deal.
Conditions
The overall course conditions were satisfactory with fairways very dry and good waiting for play ahead especially during a holiday.
I must add a friendly staff on board.

I have been playing this course since High School, it's sad to see it detorate while they are deciding if they are keeping it open or not. Tee boxes and greens are ok, sand is horrible. Anywhere off the fairway you need to look for a small patch of grass/weeds to hit off, it's generally hard pan.
Going out with a bang
The remaining time with Franklin seems fleeting with the doors set eminent for closure yet no date and time in site. And this is good news for golfers looking to play Franklin before it leaves.
The course right now is in Great shape. Greens about a 9-10 stimp fairways fairly watered with rough on each side. Course still manages its water and if you are 20-30 yards left/right of the fairway you will catch the hard pan and run for days.
Recommended everyone come and play and if you catch the hot deal it's a great bargain. Rates during the week are reasonable and weekend price no different than boundary oaks (At least Franklin has a driving range right now). Definitely get there before winter as the course gets a lot water from the mountains and gets incredibly soggy as it is part of watershed for Franklin Canyon Creek that runs through the course.
