nice day
I had played the course in September, before the rain, and it was very dry (as expected). Today the course was in great shape despite the few temporary tee boxes (much needed). The greens rolled well and the fairways were in good shape.
The course was fun to play, Good greens!
It was real cold that day. The fairways are under repair and should come around in a few weeks. The greens were in good condition and rolled nice. I'll be back.
Franklin Canyon
The staff here were friendly and laid back and the carts were nice. The pace of play was horrible and about the worse I've seen at any course but the value of this course and challenges were well worth it. There's tree hazards some sand traps and a bit of water. I would definitely go back for the twilight which was a huge value!
Great day
Drought is tuff. Greens were very slow. Still had a great day
Franklin Canyon sadly mismanaged
I have played this course many times and for the last year or so it has been getting worse, tee boxes uneven, and only about 10-20% of fairways have any "playable" grass on them. Lay out is fun and luckily the greens were decent. I understand we have a drought but at least all the other near by courses have maintained better playing conditions for a better price. It's a shame because it's a fun lay out.
Bad news
This course is a cow farm. No water and yet still chagring the out ragus price.
There is no ruff and no fairways and no sand in the bunkers.omg they. Need to close this course.
The staff didn't even attempt to respond to the. Extremely poor and sorry course.
There is no middle of the fairway. They are gone and hittjng off dirt.
Do not play here .its a complete lie..
Underwhelming
Had read several positive reviews so thought I'd give Franklin Canyon a try. Staff was very pleasant and did get out early, that was about the only positive. The course is in terrible condition. Fairways were atrocious, barely any grass, lots of hard pan and mud. Greens were at least green but very spongey and apparently no one repairs ball marks. Pace of play was the worst i have experienced in the Bay Area. We were stacked up front and back with the group in back hitting into us regularly. Left after 12 holes and over 3.5 hours. There are so many other public options in the area that are in better condition and better attended -- Peacock Gap, Rooster Run, Chardonnay, San Geronimo, etc. I would definitely not play there again nor would I recommend to others.
Drought affected
Poor conditions of the course were not their fault, the drought has take it's toll, but the fairways approaching the greens made wedge shots like hitting off asphalt. One real unfortunate incident was that my partner's car got broken into in the parking lot , so don't leave your valuables out. Really sad because it's a fun course and I'd still recommend it.
Hammered by the droughta
The fairways and tee boxes are suffering from the drought. Several of the fairways were close to half bare dirt. However the greens were in very good condition so it made the round playable.
Pace of play wasn't bad, round was right around 5 hours.
I normally play in the north bay and occasionally travel to Vallejo for a round. For the price there are many better options in the area. This was my first time playing here, and not a great first impression. The course layout was pretty good, and is be curious to see the the course is like after some winter rains and se grass.
Dry days
Dry, dry, dry!!! It was once a great course,
but the drought has claimed the course.
Conditions bad
A lot of dirt patches, although all greens were well maintained,,,
Great Course
First time here and it is awesome...the course is layed out really well with wide fairways and nice greens.
Brown is the new green.
I played here in Feb. it was lush and green, since the water restrictions this year, F.C's only grass is on the Tees and greens (your drives roll far on the dry fairways). Hopefully, we get a good winter and it'll get back to normal.
Drought Battered But Playable
Here for a practice round with others preparing for local county championship coming up. Course suffering a bit from drought conditions as are many others. Fairways and tee boxes mostly feeling the pain, greens in fairly decent shape, though. Bunkers appear to have been slightly renovated and in good shape. Price is dynamite and aside from some poor lies due to drought/lack of watering a nice challenge and fun to play. Once drought problems subside would give the course a better than average rating
This course is handling the drought problem.
Even with the severe water problems, FC is in Drought mode and handling it well. Fairways are brown but it gets greener as you approach the greens. Your drives off the tee roll longer due to the 'brownage'. But the greens are in great shape.
Franklin Canyon
Pace of play..waited average of 15 min. entire front 9...had a foursome in front of us waiting...and the foursome in front of them just teeing off....carts everywhere! Course was dirt with a few sprinkles of grass. Back nine it picked up to an average of 5 minutes per hole....best part of the day was the lunch and it's service!
Great course for intermediate players
This course has a nice mix of long holes and medium distance holes. I have only been golfing for a couple years and have been to about 15 courses, this is by far my favorite. It is not to easy and not to difficult. The staff is nice and the food is good. I'd suggest when you get to the 9th tee call in and order up a club sandwich and fries, they are delicious! They maintain the course really good, the greens are very nice and the tee boxes are nice and green also. I would recommend this course to anyone, experienced or beginner.
Not bad given the drought and heat.
Conditions were not excellent overall- the fairways are fried and lots of hard dirt areas made play more challenging than usual. Several tee boxes under repair and the temp. tee areas were not great (hard to stick a tee into concrete!). However, given the conditions I believe it was not bad. The greens were excellent and the putting/chipping areas around the clubhouse were still nice too. It would have been nice if SOME of the wall-washing stations had water in them- they were all bone dry! - maybe at least every other hole? If they're not filled because of the drought then get rid of them- don't leave them out empty- they are useless dry. Once we get out of this drought this will be one of my favorite local courses again.
NEVER coming back
Had a 5:37 tee time and teed off at 5:45.We had a single in front of us who played very fast. Pro shop opened late. Played the first 9 in an hour and 25 minutes. The back nine was another story. On hole 13 there was a twosome followed by a foursome followed by a twosome stacked up in front of us. After 20 minutes we skipped holes 13,14, and 15. We played 16 and 17 and then had to wait again on 18 for a two some to play. Afterwards we stopped in the pro shop and asked why this happened. The answer of, "I just work here. " didn't cut it. The man then opened the window and made a flippant remark to my partner which spurred on an argument. This should not happen when you are teeing off at 5:45. So our answer to "I just work here." is "WE WON'T GOLF HERE."
Since the rains this winter and some work by the staff the course is now in very good condition.
