Mud City Next to Hardpan Photo submitted by danstone360 on 06/29/2020
A great course setting.
we played early on a Saturday and it was a great paced round. The greens had been punched and sanded but half the green was still ok but not real fast. Well worth the cost.
Fun day out but can get slow
Long and wide but fun course for mid handicappers.
Greens were a little slow at times.
Great public course, great price you won't be disappointed.
Good views, some wildlife, lots of barranca, recently punched.
Franklin Canyon is mostly level course in generally good condition, greens were punched within the past 2 or 3 weeks and were bumpy.
We played as a twosome with a regulation pace, started
around 9:30 am.
Lots of green hills, some wildlife and birds, friendly staff, fairways were also punched, but very playable.
course was in fair condition
Play was slow and we had to jump around several groups that were holding up play. Tee boxes are in bad shape and the course was fair at best. Greens were half pluged which was good but we did not know this till we figured it out for our selves.
Would have be nice if we were told about the greens and that the driving range was closed before we came to the course so that we could have been prepaired.
Course layout is great - tee boxes & greens need attention...
The course is nice - great layout & nicely challenging w/o being tricked up. The only issue we had seems to be a recurring theme for American Golf courses... The tees were not level and the greens were bumpy and inconsistent. Take care of the little things like that & I'll be back more often!
Nice layout
Because we secured a $22.00 green fee through Golf Now, the head pro was a bit dismissive. The fairways had been punched recently and the greens will be punched the weekend of 4-6, 4-7. I have played the course under much better conditions, but will probably return because I enjoy the layout.
Tee shots are difficult to pick the safe path. Shaping shots required. Interesting design.
Reachable but not too easy par fives. Tough but fair par threes. I have always had an excellent round of exiting golf when I've played this course.
Great course for your money and time
Great course for your money and time. Friendly staff well maintained fairways and greens. course has enough challenges for players of all abilities
Rewards a good shot; penalizes a poor shot.
Lots of ways to score high but keep it in the fairway and you can come away with a feeling of "I beat the course".
Great golf experience
Pace was about 4 hrs, but could have been faster if slower players let faster players play through. The course is in good condition. Greens were rolling great. View was excellent with turkeys and other wildlife.
This course has great shot values!
This course was in good shape and was very playable for the intermediate to advanced golfer. It is also a walkable course with not too many hills to traverse. Water did not come into play too often but ball placement was still important. The course has a good range and putting green ,to get loose on before your round. The course also had an extra par 5 which is fun!
Needs Work, But Fun Anyway
I have to say, I had a good time playing this course this weekend. Nice day, pretty good pace of play, and heck, I was playing golf so things can't be bad. I like the overall layout of the course. Kind of hilly, with some interesting hole designs. Also, they have the price at a pretty good level. But the course could definitely use some TLC. Fairways are cut way too short and are hard as a rock. Greens are a little lumpy, which doesn't kill you too much on uphill puts, but there was quite a lot of wobble in the putts downhill. Also, there is a lot of holes next to Highway 4, so it is not as quiet as you might like. But even with all that, I still would play here again. The staff both at the counter and the starter were extremely friendly. At the current price I can live with the greens and the road noise, I just would love it if the fairways were grown out a bit. Fix that and you have a really great muni course.
A course where you should score well.
As the name of the golf course implies, you will be meandering up and around canyon terrain. This requires you to keep your ball on the short stuff or you might have to get another ball out of your bag. There are several holes where an errant drive will end up in a barranca (a deep ravine) or out of bounds. This course is a good test of golf if you think you are getting better. For the better than average golfer, you should be tweeting many times.
Pace was ok, for a Monday!
The course was in great shape, greens were rolling good. The fairways and the rough we're playable and not mud. The bunkers need some love though, I was in two and one was un kept and sloppy, like it hadn't been really raked in quite a few days. The other bunker I was in was hard as a rock, like chipping in the parking lot.mother than that I love the play of the course. You really gotta have all your shots working when you play it from the tips.
Great course to play
Although this is a great course, we had a VERY slow pace of play. We had to wait on almost every hole. The longest was waitinbg for the greens to open. What made matters worse was that several carts didn't have full charge on them, casuing the staff to replace carts (road service). A few times I had to get out and push the cart up inclines. It was kind of comical.
Nice course, nice staff. Great Value!!
Played at 2:30 in the afternoon and the course was in very nice shape for the cold weather we have been having. Enjoyable experience!
The course was in excellent condition for winter golf!
Loved playing here lots of challenges to maneuver. The water hazards kept you in check to make good decisions on placing the ball. Will play her again!
Nice layout, easy to get to, and relatively dry.
This is a pretty course in a nice location that suffers from a lack of maintenance funds. Fairly easy from the white tees, but a nice challenge for a low teens handicapper from the blue tees. While the tee boxes and sand traps require a lot of attention but never seem to get it, the fairways and greens are in excellent shape and drainage seems to be excellent after extensive work a couple of years ago, making it one of the more playable wet weather courses in the area.
Small Greens - Big Fairways
Nice course in the middle of nowhere. Good rate of play for a Hoilday weekend. Clubhouse is old and hard to get at on the turn,
Elevation Challenge
Franklin Canyon is a very nice coarse. If you find uphill and downhill holes challenging this is the coarse for you. Most of the tee boxes need to be releveled but that is really my only complaint. The fairways, bunkers, and greens including the roughs and fringes were in great condition from what I am use to playing. The greens feel spongie but were pretty fast none the less. I also played this coarse for $22 @ 12:22pm. After talking to the group I golfed with they were jealous of me for the price I paid through "GOLFNOW.COM". Thanks GOLFNOW!!!
