Golfer Reviews
Needs Work, But Fun Anyway
I have to say, I had a good time playing this course this weekend. Nice day, pretty good pace of play, and heck, I was playing golf so things can't be bad. I like the overall layout of the course. Kind of hilly, with some interesting hole designs. Also, they have the price at a pretty good level. But the course could definitely use some TLC. Fairways are cut way too short and are hard as a rock. Greens are a little lumpy, which doesn't kill you too much on uphill puts, but there was quite a lot of wobble in the putts downhill. Also, there is a lot of holes next to Highway 4, so it is not as quiet as you might like. But even with all that, I still would play here again. The staff both at the counter and the starter were extremely friendly. At the current price I can live with the greens and the road noise, I just would love it if the fairways were grown out a bit. Fix that and you have a really great muni course.
A course where you should score well.
As the name of the golf course implies, you will be meandering up and around canyon terrain. This requires you to keep your ball on the short stuff or you might have to get another ball out of your bag. There are several holes where an errant drive will end up in a barranca (a deep ravine) or out of bounds. This course is a good test of golf if you think you are getting better. For the better than average golfer, you should be tweeting many times.
Pace was ok, for a Monday!
The course was in great shape, greens were rolling good. The fairways and the rough we're playable and not mud. The bunkers need some love though, I was in two and one was un kept and sloppy, like it hadn't been really raked in quite a few days. The other bunker I was in was hard as a rock, like chipping in the parking lot.mother than that I love the play of the course. You really gotta have all your shots working when you play it from the tips.
Great course to play
Although this is a great course, we had a VERY slow pace of play. We had to wait on almost every hole. The longest was waitinbg for the greens to open. What made matters worse was that several carts didn't have full charge on them, casuing the staff to replace carts (road service). A few times I had to get out and push the cart up inclines. It was kind of comical.
Nice course, nice staff. Great Value!!
Played at 2:30 in the afternoon and the course was in very nice shape for the cold weather we have been having. Enjoyable experience!
The course was in excellent condition for winter golf!
Loved playing here lots of challenges to maneuver. The water hazards kept you in check to make good decisions on placing the ball. Will play her again!
Nice layout, easy to get to, and relatively dry.
This is a pretty course in a nice location that suffers from a lack of maintenance funds. Fairly easy from the white tees, but a nice challenge for a low teens handicapper from the blue tees. While the tee boxes and sand traps require a lot of attention but never seem to get it, the fairways and greens are in excellent shape and drainage seems to be excellent after extensive work a couple of years ago, making it one of the more playable wet weather courses in the area.
Small Greens - Big Fairways
Nice course in the middle of nowhere. Good rate of play for a Hoilday weekend. Clubhouse is old and hard to get at on the turn,
Elevation Challenge
Franklin Canyon is a very nice coarse. If you find uphill and downhill holes challenging this is the coarse for you. Most of the tee boxes need to be releveled but that is really my only complaint. The fairways, bunkers, and greens including the roughs and fringes were in great condition from what I am use to playing. The greens feel spongie but were pretty fast none the less. I also played this coarse for $22 @ 12:22pm. After talking to the group I golfed with they were jealous of me for the price I paid through "GOLFNOW.COM". Thanks GOLFNOW!!!
Course Overall Great
Have played this course with my son 4 times now. Greens were in excellent shape, very few divots, maybe the players were taking the time to repair them. They were fast so I had to get used to them. The fairways were also in good shape. If you hit your ball well it would get a good roll. You have to hit your ball to certain spots on some holes for sure or you get penalized, that is what makes golf fun, you need a challenge. We had some kind of family tournament in front of us which slowed us down a little but what the heck, you want to enjoy yourself. I love the layout of this course so I will be back to play it again. One other note. We were a threesome and picked up a walker after the second hole, great guy, enjoyed playing with him. His name was Sam.
this course is beautiful and need some charllange
i play this course so many time. but every time, this course give me a chaellange. however i enjoyed so much i keep coming back.
another reason to coming back, its close from my home
also year membership program is good.
Needs work, slow pace of play, but still a good track.....
I've played this course many time over the past 20 years. Once known for fast, sloping greens and good overall condition, it has gone downhill. Some of the fairways are threadbare, the greens are lumpy and the pace of play, while always a problem (due to 3 par threes on the front side) is slow. There are no marshals on the course, and groups are sent out one after another without regard to timing.
On the plus side, the fairways have been aerated and fertilized, as have the greens. I rate it as average because I like the layout and it has potential. I also recommend the course for the same reasons.
Pricey for the conditions
The non-discount rate is higher than many comparable courses but the conditions are not as good. Lots of bare spots in fairways and the tee-boxes are a mess in many cases. Slow play abounds but the marshall we saw was at least trying to pick things up. Driving range is among the worst in the bay area, balls are ancient, distances are not marked and at least half the stalls are on a slant. However... this is a nice course from the point of view of terrain and variety so, although it is not a first choice, I will go there again. I would recommend this course but not unreservedly.
this course has interesting holes
Practice area is poor need grass driving range and better chipping area. Fairways are good Ruff is mowed to much. To many balls go in canyons Greens are always slow. And bunkers are very bad. I think they do not know what real sand is. It is OK to play when the price is right. I never play there unless I get a deal. KB
Good course and a good challenge
Course has elevation changes with some real challenging holes making it enjoyable for both beginners and more advanced golfers
