Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.

Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Phenomenal
Was able to play and social distance at the same time. Great course!
Nice track but pricier than most.
Nice layout. Pretty course. Very playable. Conditions green and some of best in area. Greens a little more beat up than you’d expect but there had been a lot of rain so maybe the miso stir caused it. Not exceptionally difficult but a fair test. Decent range and friendly staff. No complaints although at $171 it’s a little pricey

As always, this is a top end course. Conditions are great.
Very nice course tough greens
Really enjoyed the course layout and the conditions were very good. Found the greens tough to read and I dont believe I had a straight putt even once. Would definitely play again.
Good course
For the money, I've enjoyed many cheaper courses better. Lots of hotel around and distant views of mountains but not all that interesting at the course itself. In great condition and had to play strategically and lay up a lot as lots of sand traps to avoid.
19th hole awesome and food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Staff wonderful.
I would play again if I could get a lower rate.
Disappointing
Actually the course was interesting and challenging.
My complaint is with the pro shop who insisted on charging my friend for an extra cart fee for her special needs child who can’t be without her. No other course in the valley has charged her according to her. A little compassion and common sense would go a long ways.

Be ready to have a challenging round with a course in superb condition. Putting skill will be put to the ultimate challenge. Greens roll true and fast.
Must play in Palm Springs area
Shadow Ridge manages to blend desert golf with the lush few of a parkland setting. The layout is beautiful and a bit challenging. It's not all about length and here are shorter par 4s that offer challenges around the green. Speaking of which, the greens were in excellent condition and running quick but were not stupid fast. This course joins Desert Willow and PGA West as one of my favorites in the area.
Great Track
Shadow Ridge has it all, great grasses, very interesting layout, fabulous clubhouse and great service. The breakfast sandwich was very good. Most undulating greens in the valley.
Challenging greens
Most greens have lots of undulations. Some fairways have bunkers placed to challenge you. The rough was a challenge in places. Great shape and fun to play. A very enjoyable round
