Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Beautiful resort Photo submitted by MagecD on 10/08/2012
Worth the money
While the price for this course is on the high side, it was a great experience. Course was in perfect shape.
Beautiful layout with challenging holes. Sand in traps were of highest quality. Recent switch to the 90-degree rule explained the good conditions, while making distance judgement much better since we weren't confined to the cart path. Highly recommend and worth the money.
5 Star Faldo Course
Great resort design, well maintained and nice pace of 4 hours made for a very enjoyable day.
5 Star Faldo Course
Well maintained & great design. 4 hour pace of play made for a very enjoyable day. Just one caution, check your credit card charge! We were billed more by the golf course than our reservation (did not book thru Golfnow).
Pristine Conditions
This was an Absolute 5 Star Rated golf day. Even though we had a slight delay due to frost in the morning, it was worth the wait. It was a perfect day to golf and the course was in 'Pristine Condition'. The lakes were even so clear that I had no problem seeing my ball that I just hit into it ;). I will for sure play this course again next time I'm in Palm Springs and I will highly recommend it to all.
Outstanding Course
Mr Faldo, gives you some generous fairways and beautiful holes. Lots of trees line the fairways but never come into play. Some nice water features on the back nine. Very green lush course.
GREAT Course!!
We played this course when we were here last Fall (‘18) and enjoyed it then but REALLY enjoyed it today. There aren’t a lot of surprises out there but you still have to hit your shots.
It recently reopened after reseeding and was in phenomenal condition!
The staff is super friendly, too (thanks Matt and Julio)!
Great Layout
The course design is great. Every hole is enjoyable to play. Having several tees to play from makes it enjoyable for all skill levels.
Highly recommend and the course conditions were very nice.
Fun layout. Generous fairways. Greens were in great shape but we’re extremely slow. I believe we were playing day 2 after the course reopened after overseeing. Cart path only which was a bit annoying but I did really enjoy the course.
Good track-long par 4’s
Course was in good condition given time of the year. Conditions were very windy and greens were hard which made it much more difficult. A fair share of 460 yard+ Par 4’s from the green tee’s (blue equivalent) which were hard to reach in regulation.
Very Enjoyable
My wife and I really enjoyed the course and the pace of play was good which is important to us.
Nice layout
Nice variety of holes, short and long, some strategy required, undulating greens. Good course conditions, greens hard, putts rolled smooth.
Beautiful course. Lots of character! In very good condition!
Great value
Everything was awesome for this time of year particularly green watered fairways. Need a drink cart.
Do not Play this course if aerification notice
Going in I knew there was course maintenance going on but by aerification I believed it would be just the greens being punched. This was not the case!! - The entire course was basically ripped up including tee boxes. To me this made the entire course unplayable!. I came close to breaking an ankle on a tee shot when my left foot twisted and went down a hole made by the 'aerification'. The aerification is actually creating large gouges (not just punches) . I understand that it is being prepared for qualifiers in August, but really this course should have been closed down until it had recovered.
I know that by August it will be in great shape, but now it is not in playable shape, hence the poor review.
