Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.

Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Great course!
Shadow Ridge is one of our favorite courses in the Desert. In good shape and friendly staff.
Great time again
Always first class. Practice facility,people,course could not get any better. And with golf now it is a great value.
We play here every trip down and always reminds us what a great course feels like from the moment you step out if you car.
Enjoyable experience
The course is in excellent shape. The greens were like a lush carpet. They are undulating and challenging to read . Booking the tee time was seamless, the staff was friendly and helpful. The Course was busy so pace of play was slow. We only got 16 holes in before it got too dark to continue. Otherwise, it was an excellent outing.
Love the layout!
Shadow Ridge is a very nice course, in excellent condition. It has several original holes. The greens were quick, but true. It has one of the better practice areas, a beautiful clubhouse and a well-stocked pro shop. I would play here a lot more often if it wasn't so expensive.

The course is in great shape and every staff member was there to make sure you had a great day on the course, special mention of Jack the starter who is really a morning guy!
Still the best!
I have been visiting the Palm Desert area regularly for the past 8 years and have played many of the wonderful courses in the valley. Shadow Ridge proves again to be my favorite test of golf. Aside from being a most challenging track, the condition of the course is always perfect, and the staff makes you feel like your a member of a first class private club. I will continue to include a game here on each trip I take to Palm Desert.
One of the BEST
Challenging course, makes you think about every shot. Nice layout and difficult greens. Even more challenging with the strong winds.
Played with my son and grandson (14). Had a great time. Three generations and we all had fun.
Potato chip greens
At least that was what you found once you negotiated the water and bunkers to get to the green. Course management at it's maximum! A great golfing experience, not cheap but worth the money.
