Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Excellent practice facilities
Great practice facilities. Interesting layout. Pace of play average. Many courses to choose from in the area and this course is a good choice.
Top Notch Golf
Excellent course, lots of variety and great conditions. Will definitely play again!
SExcellent course. Unfortunately it was cart path only which makes for a lot of extra walking and slows the pace of play.
Resort Golf
Course recently re-opened after over-seeding. Course was not overly busy. Cart path only. Pace of play considering was excellent. Played in just over 4 hours. Course presents a good challenge but is very playable. Course condition was excellent though greens were slow. Good value booking on GolfNow.
An absolute must play for the golf enthusiast
I have played the majority of the “championship “ courses in the valley, and I put this course in the upper echelon of courses.
The staff are all incredible right from the moment you arrive at the bag drop. The starter Andy, was so friendly and accommodating ensuring I had a great experience.
The practice area is without question the best of all courses I have played. Full length grass driving range, short iron area with plenty of flags to target your wedges, chipping, bunker area and a large putting green, plus smaller one near the first tee.
There are numerous tee boxes so players have several options.
The greens are quite large, however pin placement places an emphasis on precision shot making to get the ball close.
Large fairways so you can hit driver on most holes if you chose.
The course is in excellent condition.
In my opinion this course is in the top 5 of all public courses in the valley.
Another great round
Great track and conditions were great as well. Wish I had more time to use the practice facilities.
Awesome.... Will play again
First time playing Shadow Ridge but won't be my last. It was a great layout and the course was in great shape. Shadow Ridge should be at the top of the courses to play in Palm Springs
unique desert track
Excellent variety. Perfect greens. Fairways and waste areas need some love
Fun to play.
Being a high handicapper I played the white tees. Felt very comfortable on each teebox and had ample opportunities to make par. The well kept fairways and forgiving rough added to the joy of this opportunity. I would want to play this course often if I lived in this community. Palm
Excellent Golf Course
The course is in excellent condition save a few tee boxes that needed a little care. Fairways and greens were beautiful. Due to the type of grass on the greens, they rolled slow, but true. Ball only broke half as much as you thought it might. Staff were friendly and attentive from the pro-shop, starter, to the cart guys at the end of the round. Pace of play was great finishing in 4:15. Can't wait to go back.
Shadow Ridge
Played the Greens (6621/71.5/130) in slightly over 4H in temps approaching 120.
I knew from a previous round that the course was "summer shaggy", but I enjoy this fun layout.
The Bermuda tees were maintained too long for my taste. Some were near immaculate, some okay while a few were poor.
The Bermuda fairways were also maintained long which limited the amount of roll and made the course play long. Semi lush overall but many fairways had sporadic patches of bare spots.
The Bermuda rough was mostly lush and penal. Just tall enough to catch and turn your club.
The green side sand traps were well maintained with good quality white sand which produced several fried eggs. Fairway traps were firmer and good to play from, I know, because I sampled several of them. Some fairway traps are waste bunkers & less maintained.
The greens here are very firm, which affects chips, pitch shots all the way to high lofted , well struck irons. They putted medium slow and were somewhat bumpy.
The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. Drink cart out and around numerous times. Recommended = Yes.
Shadow Ridge (Faldo)
Played 36 holes from the Greens (6621/71.5/130), averaging 4 1/4H per round with Robule, Mendel & Larry. It was 88 when we teed off early morning and 117 when we finished late afternoon. The breeze was welcome!
The layout is fun to play and suits my eye well overall. Numerous risk/reward par 4's that could produce a 3/4 or 6/7. Two par 4's over 460 from even the next to back set of tees. The par 3's offer a good variation in length and look. There are numerous large fairway bunkers to avoid, but the landing areas on most par 4's & par 5's tee shots are generous in width.
Sixpez's recent review was spot on. While the conditions were not bad, they were poor based on what I have experienced here previously.
The Bermuda tees were a mixed bag all over the board. Several were near immaculate. Others looked like a par 3 tee on a muni course.
The Bermuda fairways were semi lush but maintained long, you did not get alot of roll, which made the course play long. Many fairways had sporadic patches of bare spots.
The Bermuda rough was mostly lush and just tall enough to make you think twice when using longer clubs. Usually nice to chip out of.
The green side sand traps were well maintained with good quality white sand. Almost too much, our group had several balls bury in the faces of bunkers.
Numerous traps that appear to be green side from the tee are actually 25-50 yards from greens, so you can get unusual length sand shots here. Some fairway traps are waste bunkers & less maintained.
The greens were firm, putted medium slow speed and were somewhat bumpy. They held approach shots with some run out with hardly any ball marks because of the firmness.
The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. Drink cart out and around numerous times. Recommended = Yes.
Great Layput, Fun to Play
Shadow Ridge is part of the Marriott Condo Timeshare property. This is a gen. Great layout. Very fun to play and in very good condition for this time of year in the desert. If you like fast greens this is not your course. But what they lack in speed, they held great. The course staff could not have been more accommodating. The pro shop is well stocked. The grill was not open for lunch after our round which was a bit disappointing, but not a game breaker. We had a 9 am tee time and were originally planned to be grouped with another twosome. My wife isn't crazy about playing with strangers and we arrived early and they sent us out on our own. Cruised through the front in an hour and 20 minutes. Got slower on the back when we caught up with groups ahead. Nice course. We will be back in November!
Always a fun course to play
Shadow Ridge has a mixture of challenging and easy holes. All Holes are straight forward, no gimmicks to the course. The GPS system is accurate and lets you see the entire hole before you tee off.
