Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Beautiful resort Photo submitted by MagecD on 10/08/2012
Great day on good, albeit oderous, golf course
The weather was perfect and the course was in great condition. The fairways are wide and largely open, but the greens and trap placements are challenging. The staff was friendly and helpful. My wife and I enjoyed the flora and fauna, and the beautiful desert vistas. There are several holes with timeshare units nearby, but they are not intrusive. The sewage smell of the recycled water in lakes and ponds scattered around the course was evident the day we played. But this was more than offset by the overall positive course experience--one of the best we had in our week of play in the Palm Springs area.
Family Day Golf
Enjoyed the course and did not feel pushed especially since it was my sons first time out this year. We enjoyed the game and the course was in great shape.
Rolling Fairways
Loved the layout of the course. Challenging. I liked the greens. The carts with gps were very helpful as the visuals for distance were hard to judge. Elevated greens, lots of sand traps. Fun!
We moved along making great time until we got to the last two holes. We came to a stop with a long wait and decided not to play the last hole.
Challenging Course, Difficult Greens
Played the course twice in the last three days. Love the practice facility!! This course provides plenty of challenge with many bunkers to be avoided and a variety of shots to be played. Greens were fast with multiple elevation changes on every green. Pace of play the second time out was quite slow, I had not experienced this in all previous rounds at this course. Fun course to play, we will definitely be going back.
Bunkers
Great course but they need to have the guests stay out of the bunkers using them as sand boxes. They were somewhat beat-up for a course that charges a pretty steep fee for golf.
Very forgiving.
The asst pro at Another course recommend we try Shadow Ridge. We loved it. Fairways are very wide and forgiving which makes for an enjoyable round regardless of your handicap! We love Desert Willow and The Classic Club and know we will add Shadow Ridge to our rotation!
very nice condition
this course is in great shape and it plays at a nice pace. if you get a chance check this course out!
Shadow Ridge is in great condition as the Summer gets closer
Summer golf in the Desert is wonderful. A golfer can play brilliant courses at very reasonable rates. One of these courses is Shadow Ridge. Conditions at Shadow Ridge are great and the pace of play was well under four hours this morning. Get Marriott Rewards point and Shadow Ridge app. reward points every time you play.
Good experience
Overall everything was great. Course is nice and was in great shape. Greens fast but not horribly so. Paid $89 through golf now and that was about right. Not a $100 course but not $50 either. Staff was nice, conditions and layout were very good. Played as a single and was paired up with 2 guys who were Great guys. Only negative was my game but that had nothing to do with the course. Definitely recommend if on a deal.
Nice Layout
The is a good course and a decent value, My only complaint would be poor preparation of the bunkers. The sand is very deep, it needs to be compacted somewhat to make the bunkers playable.
Excellent Golf Day
Shadow Ridge is in perfect condition with moderately fast, smooth greens, fairways that are well manicures with no bare spots. Highly recommended for anyone in the low desert looking for a great day of golf!
Great layout
The course was in great shape and the pace of play good very little wait time. The staff we're very helpful and professional. It was a beautiful day for golf.
Good Variety
Elevated tees then elevated greens. Some nice shorter holes. Hard to access pins and severely shaped greens. No. 1 and No. 18 are very challenging.
Marshall needs to relax!
We played as a foursome. 3 out of our 4some are single digit handicaps. 4some behind us playing forward tees so they were riding us almost the whole day. Marshall told us twice to pick up play...2nd time he told us I confronted him and told him to tell the group behind us to stop playing junior tees and move back on tee boxes. Other than this the course was great and staff friendly.
Nice Resort course
The course is a very nice layout and design giving the golfer excellent long holes and views of the mountains in the distance. The one thing about it is that there is really no single signature hole that I can recall. Many holes had a great look while standing on the tee, none really had the look that took your breathe away and made you say Wow. A nice course to play for Resort golf and worth a single round.
