Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.

Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Great track !
Course is in great shape, greens rolling true and pace of play was 4 hours. Highly recommended.
Tougher than the Slope
This course was beautiful but a lot tougher than a 130 slope. It felt like 140 to 144.
Will do it again
Great conditions and finished in 4 hours. If you like Desert Willow you'll like it here.

I chose to play this because it is so highly rated on Golf Now.
It did not disappoint. Everything about this course is 5 stars.
I first got there, they carried my clubs to my cart.
Enrique loaded and unloaded my clubs when I was finished. Wiped them all clean with a damp towel.
The carts are in great shape, with high quality GPS on board.
The course was emaculate, tee boxes, fairways, rough and greens were almost perfect.
You will never lose a ball in the rough here.
Bathrooms were great, even had ice and cold water dispensers outside the restrooms, on the course!
If I could only play one course for the rest of my life, it would be this one.
Can't wait to come back.

Play this course!!
It was our first time playing in California. We played three courses that week and this was our favorite by far!! Beautiful views. Great fairways The greens were in perfect condition. Would definitely recommend this course
Very Intelligent Course
I am not a long driver, so played from men’s tee. The course was still challenging but very logical and fair. It’s by far the best of the three Marriott courses in the area

We really enjoyed our round of 18 holes. Course was great and challenging with all the bunkers. Never did see the drink cart the whole 18 holes, that was a bummer. I would definitely play here again. Staff was wonderful.
