Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.

Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Very Nice Course
The course was in really good shape and the layout was fair. The greens were a little grainy but that was to be expected as they are getting ready for the winter season. I really like the secluded nature of the course. There wasn't much around most holes. This course will make our list for our annual trip to Palm Springs.
This course had generous fairways and was in great condition. The bunkers are well placed but a few were in need of upkeep. The pace of play was a bit slow - we were playing behind a business group who played very slowly ( which added over 45 mins to an hour to our round). The starter, Enrique, was kind, courteous and very accommodating - before and after the round. He represents the course very well. We highly recommend playing here
Really nice layout and 3.5 hrs
Course can be got if you’re hitting it well. Avoid the fairway bunkers. Greens roll a little slow for me but not worth complaining about. Conditions were great especially considering the heavy rains the got a week ago. We played on Sunday and enjoyed it so much we did it again on Tuesday. Play it!
First round
Great overall but only 1 stop bydrink cart at 104 degrees
The course had some summertime issues.
There should have been a discount because the course was undergoing some work on the some holes. We came to a couple of greens that had not been cut in several days. You expect this in the summer but it should have been reflected in the price.
Shadow ridge golf
We had a great round, it was alot of fun. It was very hot but other then that I'm very pleased with the experience.
Great track !
Course is in great shape, greens rolling true and pace of play was 4 hours. Highly recommended.
Tougher than the Slope
This course was beautiful but a lot tougher than a 130 slope. It felt like 140 to 144.
Will do it again
Great conditions and finished in 4 hours. If you like Desert Willow you'll like it here.

The course layout and terrain was wonderful. Definitely will be back again.

I chose to play this because it is so highly rated on Golf Now.
It did not disappoint. Everything about this course is 5 stars.
I first got there, they carried my clubs to my cart.
Enrique loaded and unloaded my clubs when I was finished. Wiped them all clean with a damp towel.
The carts are in great shape, with high quality GPS on board.
The course was emaculate, tee boxes, fairways, rough and greens were almost perfect.
You will never lose a ball in the rough here.
Bathrooms were great, even had ice and cold water dispensers outside the restrooms, on the course!
If I could only play one course for the rest of my life, it would be this one.
Can't wait to come back.
