Great deal for the money
We got the hot deal from golfnow.com for $30 per person. Can't go wrong with this deal. Beautiful and open course, fairway are in great condition. The green is a little challenging to putt, but we enjoyed every holes.
The four and a half hours we were there, we didn't see and refreshment carts driving around at all.
Nice day
Course is in good shape, new greens on 11 and 14 are open, very nice, good improvement.
Slow and even slower
Tee'd off late and course was way over booked. had to play the first 9 twice because the back nine was so slow that we would of not finished in 5+ hours and it would of been too dark.
Played course many times, but it continues to get slower and slower to play. One round took 6 hours last year.
Never On a Vacation Week
I will start by saying it is the New Years week vacation, that said what would be a normal Monday was absolutely packed. When I got to the pro shop I was informed they were 10 minutes behind, not a big deal. I asked if it was playing slow and was told no. Once we started everything was fine until we hit hole #4. Which I thought I was seeing things, there were 2 foursomes ahead of us waiting to tee off. Not one teeing off and the other waiting but 2 groups waiting to tee off. Needless to say we never recovered, it was impossible to get into any type of rhythm because you would be waiting for almost every shot.
Nest issue, a busy day and no cart service? OK, so what do I do? I call at 9 to order some food, when I get to the grill the gal asks me what I want, I inform her I wanted the food I called in. What does she do? She prepares then after I tell her again. I guess I must have unreasonable expectations but if you call ahead I would hope the food would be ready. All in all I still enjoyed myself but only because I was playing golf and not working.
Calippe
Played yesterday. Course in great condition. Greens rolling true and fairways cut nice
Only complaint would be washed out sand traps, most all of them but can be expected. Always a fun course to play
Lack of Info Hurts Reviews
Courses need to add an alert to the tee times if the course is playing cart-path only, would not have picked this place to play if we had known. Some courses are easier than others when there's a cart path only policy in place but this isn't one of them, you had to remove your bag from the cart half the time and take it to where your ball was. Real pain, never again. Not to mention the course was not in such wet condition that cart-path only was required anyway.
After a Good Rain
After a very heavy rain, the course had drained well. The green weren't sloppy. I was sad that it was cart path only, but understand why. It's not an easy course to walk, but it's not impossible. We got a great deal $67 with golf now. We thought that was a great deal for that course. Considering some of the muni's are charging $50 to walk and they aren't even draining well or play as fun/beautiful as Callippe. I'd rather spend the extra. Although, can't afford to do it all the time.
Green condition was not as good as before
I played here about 5 months ago and the greens were in better condition then. Overall the course is a definitely nice place to play golf and test your skills.
Horrible customer service
Had a tee time at 10:30 checked in at 10:25 and guy told me my spot was filled up. I said my tee time was 10:30 and his reply was its 10:29, which it wasent and even at that it was before my tee time. So I ended up going out a half hour later then scheduled as a single. On top of that he tried to charge me more than what I was supposed to pay. Horrible customer service and won't play there again
A shame. Decided to give it a try again
Locals pay so little to play that it gets beat up and you have new golfers, clueless about basic things like raking traps, repairing ball marks and being aware of golfers behind them. We have left before finishing because of near 6 hour rounds and ran into darkness this time with a NOON start time. Granted it was daylight savings but the sun set was 5:15. So much that I could like about this course except the way it is run. BTW the water issue has hit them hard. Look on Google Earth. It appears to be current.
NICE BUT SLOW PLAY
VERY NICE BUT SLOW PLAY THEY NEED TO SPEED THE PLAY UP
Honesty Is The Best Policy
First the good: This course has an excellent design, and is in a great location. Very pretty area, quiet and memorable hole design that challenges you every step of the way. I have played this course a few times now, and before this visit I have really liked this course. I don't play here often because the price is a little steep for my regular budget, but on past trips here, I believe it was worth the price. This latest round we had perfect weather, really quick pace of play, and I played very well.
The bad: I was very sad to see that the course is in terrible condition. No doubt that the drought has limited the course's ability to water and keep things lush, and that's understandable. But, it was pretty severe with more barren and dead patches than grass throughout the course. To top it off, the greens had been aerated, and there was no mention of this on Golf Now prior to booking, nor at the counter when we checked in. I can forgive the drought issue, but it drives me crazy when aeration alerts are left off of Golf Now (I assume that this is due to the course not alerting Golf Now since it is on so many of the course alerts). Be honest, and let the golfers decide if they want to book the time given the conditions. It's very shady when a course withholds that information.
Overall, I was very disappointed. At $80, I expect conditions that are better than average. These were far below that, and worth no more than $50 if the greens were not aerated. It will be a while until I go back here and trust them again. Even when the rain returns, they will have a tough time repairing all of the barren areas on the course. What a shame for such a nice layout and relatively young course.
Course in October
I play this course about 10 times a year. I really just wish they'd notify people online when they have aerated greens. The greens were terrible and for $80 I'd expect them to alert people. The only two greens that were nice were the two new holes they put in, which were very well done. To play greens that are as sloped as these and be bumpy, it makes for a frustrating day.. If I had known they were in this shape, I might have suggested to my guest that we play somewhere else. Unfortunately, while I will play the course again because I live close by, my friend will be reluctant to drive out form the city to play this again.
Solid course
The drought has taken it's toll on certain sections of the course, but overall a good course.
One of the best public couses in the Bay Area!
I have played here many times and this course is a great change for anyone who plays around the Bay Area. Terrain goes up and down., lots of challenging holes and a good test of any player. Views are outstanding and its a quiet round with the usual good weather around Pleasanton. Note: the draught has been hard on this and many courses in Northern California.
Draught and fairways
Course is holding up decently well considering the lack of water available.
Hit the fairways and add real distance to your drives, just don't run through the fairways!!
Great course
I feel quite comfortable at this course, very quiet and well maintained. I enjoyed golf on Sunday afternoon.
Pace of play was a problem
Played late Monday morning and pace of play was >5 hours even with repeated calls to the golf shop and course marshals visit to groups that where holding up play......
a fair challenge, well kept
Would play again if they offer more specials..more competitive pricing
The course condition.
Very bad course condition recently and not worth to play at this course with $60. This course is just like muni- golf course, Maybe more worse.
