Great course but today slow play
Have played Callippe several times...but today the play was very slow. Not sure why because the front nine played at a good pace. I guess we caught the crowd on the back.
SWEET BABY JESUS!!!
Stunning views, challenging course, shape shots, greens were perfect, changing winds and wild life (deer) walk the course.
In my Top 10…. And I have played Pebble , Spyglass, Troon North, Doral, Robert Trent jones trail, Copperhead…..
Watch the group behind you!
The course was packed, we were playing as a twosome behind a foursome of women and in front of a foursome. We kept up the pace and stayed behind the group in front of us without hitting into them but the group behind us was dropping balls 10 - 20 yards from us until one hole when they were actually hitting onto the green while we were still putting. We only played 6 holes and got our money back but it is doubtful we will return.
Course in good shape; still has issues with pace of play
The course was in relatively good shape, though the greens were slower than I was expecting for this time of year and water conditions.
Course still has issues with pace of play, no matter than time or day of the week. Besides being told when I checked in with the starter that there were two marshals out on the course, didn't see anyone during the entire time. Bottlenecks on this course is easy to figure out (1, 4, 6, 9, 10, 15, 16, 18) and the gaps were easy to spot. Still don't get why this course doesn't prod groups to speed up to catch the groups they've fallen behind on.
Great course
My first time ever playing this course. It will not be the last. I was doing good until I got to the last hole. OMG. I'll be more careful next time.
Beautiful and Challenging
Aeration is done. A couple greens are still bumpy. Other than that, the entire course is in very good shape. The group in front and the group before them were taking their time but that's expected at a beautiful and challenging course.
Callippe Round
Price was better than normal and when I got there I found out why. Greens had just been punched so putting was not good. Why was this not noted on Golf Now? I would have played another course if I had known. Tee to green course was in good shape though.
Lack of integrity. Won't return.
I was excited to finally play here, and I drove an hour and a half to get there to find out the greens were aerated. I understand that this is necessary, but they need to notify people that the greens are unplayable before they decide to drive all the way there. The course was very attractive and challenging, but the groups we got stuck behind were painfully clueless and slow. Why do slow golfers never admit they're slow?!? Saying you' were waiting for the group ahead is kinda stupid when there's a hole and a half open in front of you. Seems to be no escape from idiots these days.
Back to the greens, they were not bumpy, they were completely unplayable. Again, if the pros there had a little integrity or appreciation for their customers, they would have mentioned it. Will never go back, and will tell everyone I know not to bother.
Nice course
Very nice course. Got a good deal on Golf Now but when we arrived at the course we were informed that the greens were airated a few days ago. It would have been nice to have know about the greens being airated I would not have booked the round.
Scenic, great value, moderate difficulty
We played right after they punched the greens so they were very bumpy but the rest of the course is in great shape. Also something going on in the back nine so we played the front twice. If memory serves, the back is a little more difficult than the front.
Because of the issues above, we got a great rate.
Staff were very friendly.
Played the back twice
Front nine closed for aeration. Played back nine twice. This was my first visit to this course so I will return to play the front. Pace of play was good even though the foursome in front of me was hitting multiple shots and giving each other lessons on the course and they were letting the group in front of them finish the hole before teeing off on the par fours.
Greens need attention
Greens were bumpy. I'm not sure if that was because we played late in the afternoon, but the green's grasses were of different heights.
Well designed
Incorporates the natural (protected) environment resulting in a beautiful and challenging golf course with scenic vistas. The 18th is a perfect example of a signature hole that includes an inclined fairway with bisecting ravines, lay up plateaus, and a culminating elevated green guarded by welcoming bunkers. I'm a high handicapper so this course eats me for lunch, but I really enjoy playing it. It's a welcomed change from playing predictable, less creative courses.
Great course. Amazing views.
Callippe is a really great course. Amazing piece of property and amazing views. The golf course is two totally different nines. Front nine is wide open and generous off the tee and less undulating. However, the back nine is much tighter and mor undulating. It is almost like two different courses. You definitely change your strategy and game plan for each nine by playing more grip it and rip it for the front nine and better course management for the back nine. Greens are undulating and tough to read. Disclaimer: I used to work for the golf course design company that deign the layout so I may be a bit partial. Haha.
Facilities are very good. Decent range and you can hit off grass sometimes. Good chipping green and a mini-like putting green ( you will understand that statement once you putt on it). Clubhouse is really nice and they have a great bar area and is an excellent place to sit outside and eat with awesome views.
My only gripe is how they book the course and pace of play. The time I was there was weekday and couse was busy but not super crowded. What was annoying was I was told that they threw a few groups in front of us at the turn that slowed us on back nine substantially. The front nine took 2 hours and 15 minutes while the back nine too 2 hours and 45 minutes. We had to finish under darkness when normally at the time we started, we would finish no problem. Part of the problem is that the course is vey hilly and lots of locals like to walk (which is fine because I like to walk) however maybe make it mandatory carts in busier days or allow maximum of only three walkers in a group. When groups are playing at at a steady pace around a 4 hour round, I think most people are satisfied. What was funny was the Marshall was talking to us for playing slow, when we were not the hold up and we're waiting on every shot. He should of been talking to the front groups. The pace of play is always dictated by the slowest group in front.
Doug's Visit
Excellent conditions, good pace and minimum distractions.
I Shall Return
Pretty good shape considering it was late January and no rain for awhile. Obviously it was in better shape 3 years ago. Outstanding value of $40 each for golf and cart.
Good course poor condition
Hadn't played the course for a couple of years but always enjoyed it. I was surprised how bad the conditions were, fairways bare and greens rough.
