Poor condition
The fairways, rough and tees were in terrible condition. The grass was dead or gone I large areas. It appears the course is no longer watered. I had to play my ball from dirt areas in several locations. A maintenance guy continued to weed whack and kick up dust while we were on the green. The course was backed up with groups of slower golfers. I would not recommend spending any money at this course. Not worth it
Windy but a great day!
Those Santa Ana winds were brutal but we still enjoyed our round. Nice layout and interesting holes. We played the Vineyard. Staff did a good job controlling pace of play. We will definitely return. Only complaint - Bottled soda at $4.50 is ridiculous! We asked and were told that fountain sodas were the same price.
Good Layout, Tough Greens
The course is laid out well and challenging. Fairways were in mediocre condition, relatively light rough but lots of bare dirt off the rough, greenside bunkers tended to be firm and without much sand, greens were in very good condition. The green complexes are tough, with most having two levels -- get the ball on the wrong level and two-putting is difficult. Lots of elevation changes and several interesting holes on the front 9, pretty flat but good back 9. Round was pretty slow, took 4.5 hours -- didn't see any course marshals. Overall enjoyable round, good value, only real complaint was pace of play.
Worth Coming back
Had usually been playing/enjoying Victoria Lakes when blocked out of (home) Soule Park golf course. by tournaments. Played Vineyards after years absence. (Recalled it was too “ordinary”) Glad we did. good conditions, fun, fair, and challenging. Variety was indeed there. First 9 greens devilishly slick. Not just time of day-back 9 definitely rolling slower, easier to judge.
Two low(er) scores want to come back to challenge. Two high scores never want to see this course again.
Two walked-good, except for ridiculous green-to-tee distance from 13 to 14.. Two riders could have stopped @ clubhouse drank, a beer, and still beat hoofers to tee off on 14th.
Love River Ridge!
I played the Vineyard course about 5 times and played my best this time. 6-over.
Love the course (both) and area, range, etc. Always had a blast at this course.
Definitely playing it again.
The 1+ hr driving is not an issue at all!
Two great courses on one property
Just about a guarantee the greens will be above average at RR and this time was no exception. Tee boxes were good, bunkers are consistent (not that I really wanted to find out), and the fairways play nicely.
I played Victoria Lakes and the Vineyards course on one day. The check in "staff" in the pro shop for my early morning tee time did not do much for customer relations. What a disenfranchised dud...not dude...definitely a dud. The afternoon staff however was probably who should be welcoming customers to the golf course. What a difference.
I traveled over one hundred miles to play the courses and to visit the area. I am happy I did. You too will enjoy River Ridge.
Nice track
Good layout and challenging. Fairways poor in many areas. Greens roll nice. A lot of chemicals on greens however.
Look forward to playing again
Fun practice course
One of my favorite venues on a hot day. Great views, ocean breezes, can stretch out on the longer holes, good walking exercise with the hilly terrain.
Unfortunatly, my 3 some didn't show and playing quickly I got behind a group of women who would not let me play through. Waited 5-10 minutes to hit on every holes 6-18. This was a mid-day morning. So they do have people on the course who aren't familiar with golf etiquette.
GolfNow/TeeOff need improvements...they don't indicate on your confirmation which course you are on...so if you go direct to the starter (which the course prefers) it's awkward when you have to run to the other (Vineyard vs Lakes). Check in with the pro shop no matter what the starters tell you.
UnAmerican Golf Strikes Again
American Golf is where great tracks go to die. Two outstanding layouts at River Ride. V they maintain the greens on Victoria Lakes…Vineyard is a different story. They completely lost some greens. We had to take relief on putts for two holes. The fairways are awful and anything off the fairways doesn’t stand a chance.
So sad. This used to be a favorite to drive from the heat of the valley to play.in the coolness of Oxnard. Everything there is good except the conditions of the course.
UnAmerican Golf drains every cent they can get from a course until no one shows up to play great courses turned into dirt tracks
