The Links at Summerly
About
The Links at Summerly borders Lake Elsinore, southern California's largest natural lake. The Ortega Mountains and the Cleveland Natural Forest are also the golf course's neighbors. Although it feels nicely secluded, the Links are conveniently just minutes from Temecula. The design tumbles across a rolling terrain that is accented with 3 miles of Scottish-style burns. The natural mounding was deftly incorporated throughout the golf course. The rugged landscape, reminiscent of courses in the British Isles, gives it the look and feel of a traditional links layout. It is a formidable test that features heavily undulated fairways and an abundance of kidney-shaped bunkers. Although there are some tricky holes, each one was designed to offer several different playing strategies. Thought and imagination are required, but you will also have to use every club in your back to navigate the twists and turns of the Links at Summerly.

Golf Courses should be watered
Course conditions were terrible. Sand Traps have small to medium sized rocks, there are huge patches of sand, weeds, and dead grass everywhere. Maybe Summerly should consider removing all the grass other than tee boxes, fairways, and greens to focus what water they do put down where it counts. Also, stopped in for what should have been a quick snack at the turn and ended up waiting 15 minutes for two turkey wraps & fries! No wonder we were one of three groups on the entire course on a Friday with great weather. Get it together Summerly, would love to go back, but not anytime soon.
BEWARE ......DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE...AWEFUL.
My wife and I have played this course in the past and loved it because it was so different with the links style of golf. It was kept in great shape years ago. This course is in the worst shape of any course in the area. The fairways are all dirt and weeds everywhere ( NO FAIRWAY GRASS AT ALL , JUST DIRT AND WEEDS). This is shameful to even call this a golf course. This was the worst experience on a golf course my wife and I have ever had. We will never play here again. This made both of us very mad that we waisted our time here. What a rip off...…..and a waste of a day. We were looking forward to enjoying our Cinco De Mayo celebrating...….instead we were sick of the sight and conditions the course was in.
Fairways a little rough
Man it was fun course to walk. I was surprised by the back 9 because the blind shots. The staff was super nice. Can't wait to see this course when it's in better shape
Good track - will be better with some work
We played the Linjs today. The weather was perfect - high 70’s, mild breeze, perfect day. This was a challenging course that with some rework of the fairways(planned for later this year) will be fantastic. Since it was our first time here we were not knowledgeable of the course and were misled on a couple of holes by the layout. Nevertheless less, we liked the Links style with sand and “Berns” throughout the course - but all in So. Cal, style. Whole there course does not emote visions of Scotland, the course plays well - lots of running room, the undulating greens were fast and tricky and overall it challenged us. I would like to come back in the fall, when the grooming is complete, and see what it looks like then. Being from St. Louis it will require a special effort to visit family to do this.
Let me add the staff was fantastic. They went out of their way to make us comfortable, and they were really friendly. Definitely a course to come back to
The Links at Summerly Personnel are Gr8
From the Owner Wendy, GM Larry, Course Manager Michael, Superintendant Jay, Restaurant Mgr Dani, up and down the ladder, Rocky, Matt, Bob, Cassie , they are all like Family to my Fiance Sophan and myself. Conditions were rough but the grass is growing and this Summer they will host a mammoth Golf event of EPIC proportions after some sod is placed and conditions become pristine.
Soon my review will be 5 stars. I cannot honestly give that yet. Soon though. You will see.
Great potential
I play this course quite a bit. It is in better condition than it has been in many years. It's gone through some ownership issues and the course suffered because of that. The fairways were not watered very well for several years and it has been a challenge to bring them back. Quite a few bare spots still, the sand traps need better sand but the greens are in pretty good shape. Play this course from the back tees and it is a formidable course. Target golf. I hope they get some play and keep the doors open. The area needs this course.
Worst course conditions ever
I’ve been golfing for over 50 years and this was the worst conditions I’ve ever encountered.
Summerley
The course is getting better, I think the greens are in good shape but some of the fairways are pretty bare. They are working on it and have improved quite a bit in the last year. I enjoy the course its a true links style course and very strategic, you must be aware of the burns. I played this when it was first opened and it was beautiful I hope it gets back to that some day because I enjoy playing it and for the price its well worth it compared to other courses in the area.
First Time Links Playing
The current ownership and staff are all about revitalizing this course and the experience that is a links style course. This was our first time playing the track and it was truly an experience.
The Good:
Management and staff are more than helpful. They went the extra mile to make sure we were all set and knew the layout before beginning. The track itself is a nice layout. Couple of dog legs that has a nhi ice risk/reward type of play. Other holes have challenging bunker placements and narrow fairways to make you second guess your club selection. The greens roll true and smooth even though their looks a few not great. Pace of play was great until about the 14th hole, but more on that later.
The Bad:
Course itself is in poor shape. Bare areas all over the place. Bunkers are hard as a rock, and the lack of care from previous management left then course in disrepair. This makes identifying where to go tough and almost impossible if you have not played the course before.
The Ugly:
The downfall of our experience was when we caught of to a group of 6 people (4 only golfing). This group has been drinking and we have been picking up their beer cans from previous holes. They would not let us play through and everytime they saw us waiting they would say "sorry not sorry." Mind you, we were one of a few groups on the course.
This course has potential to be great. Challenging like Eagle Glen in Corona (similar challenge in missing fairway and watch out). If the management and ownership is as committed as they say they are then this will be a gem in about six months to a year.
Verrrry disappointed
The people are fantastic, no problem there but the course itself is terrible lousy tee boxes, bare fairways and horrible greens.
Come on man, they need to do some maintenance.
Not going back soon unless it was free. If it was fixed up it is a fun links style course
Don’t be fooled by the rating
Don’t be fooled by the rating The same person who will not identify himself or make comments last four numbers 5358 has left 11 four star reviews in the last three months for this course it does not deserve that and I’m sure this is just to up the rating it’s horrible that someone would do this and deceive the public like that this course is no more than two stars it is in terrible condition and overpriced
