TPC Harding Park - Harding Course
About
TPC Harding Park ranks among the most famous municipal courses in the country, along with Torrey Pines South and Bethpage Black. TPC Harding Park, which is part of the San Franciso Recreation and Parks Department, hugs the shores of Lake Merced in close proximity to the Lake Merced Golf Club, The Olympic Club and San Francisco Golf Club. Dating to 1925, it has a long history of tournament golf among its stately Monterey Cypress trees. Byron Nelson won back-to-back San Francisco Opens in 1944-45. The PGA Tour's Lucky International in the 1960s attracted winners such as Gary Player (1961), Gene Littler (1962), Jackie Burke Jr. (1963), Ken Venturi (1966) and Billy Casper (1968).
After falling on hard times, the course received a $16-million renovation in 2002-03 that brought it back into the tournament fold, hosting the 2005 World Golf Championship-American Express Championship, the 2015 WGC-Match Play Championship, The Presidents Cup in 2009, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship from 2010-12 and the 2020 PGA Championship, its first major.

Hole in One!
I have the privilege of being an SF residence card member, and play TPC Harding about once a month and really enjoy it every time out. I shot my first ace on 17 last time and created a lasting golf memory.
Pros:
-The course is well maintained
-The rough is thick and penalized bad shots, but plays fair
-Extremely walkable
-Doesn’t feel like you’re in the city at all
-Greens are fun and
Cons:
-Pace of play can be slow
-The weekend rates for non residents is very high
Tips:
-Midweek twilight rates are hard to beat, also tends to be a chiller crowd
-Walk the course with a pull cart, it’s faster than a motorized cart.
-Flemming 9 is a hidden gem and worth the price
Always a treat at TPC Harding Park
My fourth time was the charm at TPC Harding Park.
I still got my butt kicked score-wise, but the experience was absolutely perfect. It was the ideal San Francisco day. My foursome enjoyed some sun in the afternoon until things got progressively colder, windier and tougher to play. The sunset and playing 18 in the semi-dark made the walk worth it.
The rough was demanding but fair. The greens were a tad slow but again fair. The new driving range opened in February as a nice upgrade post-2020 PGA Championship.
The event has raised the profile of the whole facility. There's now a handful of must-do selfie spots - the statues out front, the PGA Championship murals in the clubhouse entry way, the lakeside 16th tee where Collin Morikawa drove the green for eagle and the scenic 18th green above Lake Merced.
Insider tip: Play the Fleming Course, too. You won't be disappointed.
Amazing
Best course I’ve ever played and I’ve played some good ones! LUXURY.
A Bucket List
If you get a chance and are in the area play this course, you won’t be disappointed. Also bring your camera. I have to say the only thing that is negative is the price, but still worth it.
I love Harding Park!
This is a fun and challenging course! They had us tee off on the back nine (not sure why and it didn't matter to me) at 2 on a Thursday. We finished shortly before 6:30 - most likely the last group on the course.
The weather was sunny but cool - a feeling that is unique to the SF Bay area, and especially in San Francisco!
The course has some hills, but is easy to walk. The greens were in great shape!
The holes offer a wide variety of challenges - doglegs, short and long par 3s, and plenty of sand.
When you play Harding you feel like you are taking a walk in San Francisco with all of the greatest who have played here!
A Must Play
Beautiful course. Can’t say anything bad about this place. This is the second time I have played it, both times I got a hot deal. This is the only way I will play it as it is very expensive for non- resident.
Make sure to bring a camera, you have to t as ke a few pictures.
Stay off the rough
Awesome course. Tight fairways. Not so fast greens. But stay away from the long grass. Highly recommended.
Always enjoy playing here
One of my favorite course in SF. Tee box to green is well maintained. The roughs are tough but fair. Fairways immaculate. The greens were on the slower side today however consistent. Look forward to the next game.
Course in very good winter shape. Bunkers a little thin. Rough wasn’t super long but no bargain. Fairways were pinched in like the pga tournament. Greens were medium fast and true. Only allowing twosomes out so pace was 4 hrs. Highly recommend.
Beware - Full set of clubs stolen from the font door storage racks
After a round my friend and I stored our clubs on the storage rack directly in front of the front door and went inside for one beer. When I came out to collect my clubs and leave, they were nowhere to be seen. The staff was no help, did not seem interested or concerned. When I asked about possible security cameras at the front door their response was “we have a no security camera policy”. Huh??
Apparently theft is a big problem at Harding Park, why on earth would they not install security cameras?
My clubs were a new set, less than a year old.
The fact you left a high rating after having a thousand dollars, (likely more), worth of clubs stolen insists I believe your experience. Consumer beware, I know I will... Thank you for the precaution to my visit.
