TPC Harding Park - Harding Course
About
TPC Harding Park ranks among the most famous municipal courses in the country, along with Torrey Pines South and Bethpage Black. TPC Harding Park, which is part of the San Franciso Recreation and Parks Department, hugs the shores of Lake Merced in close proximity to the Lake Merced Golf Club, The Olympic Club and San Francisco Golf Club. Dating to 1925, it has a long history of tournament golf among its stately Monterey Cypress trees. Byron Nelson won back-to-back San Francisco Opens in 1944-45. The PGA Tour's Lucky International in the 1960s attracted winners such as Gary Player (1961), Gene Littler (1962), Jackie Burke Jr. (1963), Ken Venturi (1966) and Billy Casper (1968).
After falling on hard times, the course received a $16-million renovation in 2002-03 that brought it back into the tournament fold, hosting the 2005 World Golf Championship-American Express Championship, the 2015 WGC-Match Play Championship, The Presidents Cup in 2009, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship from 2010-12 and the 2020 PGA Championship, its first major.

Cart Path Only
Love the coarse. Was in great condition. Rough was a little deeper than expected. Fairways are narrow so if you’re not on the fairways good luck getting to the greens in regulation. Was a little difficult for me being cart path only. It may be easier for me to walk it but the cart gives me a chance to rest. All in all it was fun and challenging.
Stunned and utterly disappointed what a shame
I’ll write a fair and honest review as I don’t believe in bad mouthing courses or being exaggerating certain things so I’ll give it to you straight this course has a famous reputation among the Golf in lore of San Francisco host of the 2020 PGA championship and so when I got the chance to play I anybody pull the trigger the wrong cost us $280 for all of us to and I can tell you I have never been more disappointed and what a shame this course is at the moment hard and bunkers that looks nice but totally unplayable
Great to play the course, but we didn’t know the 5:10 pm tee time was too late to complete the entire round. Not sure why that tee time was offered. We struggled to get through 15 holes before darkness. On course management for slow pace of play was non existent. A very disappointing end to our trip.
Great Courae
....and great layout but disappointed with one-week old sand on the greens and paltry sand in the bunkers but otherwise a great course. Fairways are good and plenty of green grass everywhere, though.
Aeration season is in full swing
The greens were aerated maybe a week ago which bumped my Conditions rating down. The fairways are still fairly narrow long after the PGA Championship has gone. The rough is not long but lush enough to still cause control problems. The patio is finally open for dining and the new (synthetic mat) range is open.
Plugged
Do yourself a favor and don’t play this course until May. The SUPERPLUGGED the greens and, while the green fees are reduced it is unputtable.
Hole in One!
I have the privilege of being an SF residence card member, and play TPC Harding about once a month and really enjoy it every time out. I shot my first ace on 17 last time and created a lasting golf memory.
Pros:
-The course is well maintained
-The rough is thick and penalized bad shots, but plays fair
-Extremely walkable
-Doesn’t feel like you’re in the city at all
-Greens are fun and
Cons:
-Pace of play can be slow
-The weekend rates for non residents is very high
Tips:
-Midweek twilight rates are hard to beat, also tends to be a chiller crowd
-Walk the course with a pull cart, it’s faster than a motorized cart.
-Flemming 9 is a hidden gem and worth the price
Always a treat at TPC Harding Park
My fourth time was the charm at TPC Harding Park.
I still got my butt kicked score-wise, but the experience was absolutely perfect. It was the ideal San Francisco day. My foursome enjoyed some sun in the afternoon until things got progressively colder, windier and tougher to play. The sunset and playing 18 in the semi-dark made the walk worth it.
The rough was demanding but fair. The greens were a tad slow but again fair. The new driving range opened in February as a nice upgrade post-2020 PGA Championship.
The event has raised the profile of the whole facility. There's now a handful of must-do selfie spots - the statues out front, the PGA Championship murals in the clubhouse entry way, the lakeside 16th tee where Collin Morikawa drove the green for eagle and the scenic 18th green above Lake Merced.
Insider tip: Play the Fleming Course, too. You won't be disappointed.
Amazing
Best course I’ve ever played and I’ve played some good ones! LUXURY.
