Scenic, fun, but slow course

Enjoy this course except when it gets crowded. Needs more rangers trying to alleviate some of the traffic bottlenecks.

Course is usually in pretty good shape, easy to score when as long as the wind is not high, and the scenery across the Bay is amazing. Some interesting wildlife as well, watch out for foxes and squirrels trying to grab something to eat our of your golf bag!

Great bang for the buck.

This is one of those great hidden gems in the Bay Area. I live in Santa Clara while my friends live in Sf, and we found this the perfect in between place to play. The greens roll just fine. There are incredible views over the Bay, and the course plays very difficult. I would highly recomment this course for a low to mid handicapper.

Nice views of the bay. Poor value for the money.

The fairways had not been mowed for several days. Greens were very slow. Pace of play was slow.

Over all "Very sad condition"

My partner and I have enjoyed our trips up to Monarch Bay GC several time a year but, we spent Monday 10-29-2012 at the most shocking conditions ever. The fairways on 9,10,&18 looked like they had not been mowed in several days. The fairways were like tournament rough and the tee boxes on several holes were down right shameful. I don't know what happened to that beautiful course. We certainly won't drive all the way there to subject ourselves to this Rag. This course is in serious condition. What a shame, for such a beautiful setting.

This course was in terrible condition

I have played this course a lot over the years. I was very very disappointed in the condition of this course. It used to be one of my favorites. The fairways were not mowed so in essence there was no fairway. The tees boxes were in terrible condition.. I am thankful that I did not have to pay the full price ($69) because it was barely worth half of that which is what I payed thanks to Golf Now. Most of the people playing were paying full price and were not happy about it. Customers should be warned that the course was being gotten into shape and then given the option of booking the tee time. I will not be back here for a very long time at any price

This place is a joke.

This place has no problem stacking as many groups and tee times together as possible. Their tee times were 45 mins behind and it was only 9am . How does this happen? Because all they care about is making as much money as possible. I understand courses have to make money but you have to draw the line somewhere . The range is a disgusting eye sore and looks like it hasn't been updated in 25 years. It's a shame because the course itself has some fun interesting holes if you don't mind being on the course for 6 hours. If you're going to play here make sure and clear your whole day.

We are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at Monarch Bay. We welcome you to call the golf shop and speak with the General Manager with your feedback.

We have recently renovated our entire driving range with brand new turf, mats, balls, range dividers, and target poles. Our driving range is one of the most aesthetically pleasing ranges in the entire East Bay.

In regards to our tee time spacing. We always strive to be on time when getting groups off of our first tee. Our tee sheets are set up for 7 (28 players) tee times per hour. Most higher end daily fee courses have 6 (24 players) tee times per hour and most municipal golf courses have 8 (32 players) tee times per hour. That puts our course in line with the industry standard. We never purposely overbook our tee sheet with the intention of putting us behind on the first tee. Increasing revenue will always take a backseat to customer experience.

Great challenging course, but we went on a bad day

The course is in good condition, nice fairways and greens. It is challenging because if you hit the ball into the rough or even out a bit, I can be difficult to hit out or find your ball. The pace was good and course was nice, we just ran into bad luck that day. The course was wet and saturated so it was cart path only for all 18 holes. A saturated course is nasty and hard to play with too. Overall great course!!!

Feels like a world away

We decided to play here last weekend because it was so hot further East of the Bay. It was a beautiful day, perfect temperature and hardly any wind. With the exception of just a few airplanes going by, it was quite peaceful, and felt like a mini vacation. The course was in great shape, they had recently aerated half the greens (keeping the pins all on the non-aerated half) but you couldn't even tell!

It is a grind!

I've alway like this course. The wind is what makes this course so tough. Fairways look wide but are actually average width if not a little narrow. Have to pay attention when you putt these medium to fast greens. One of the best features of this course is the view of San Francisco.

Challenging 100 bunker course with friendly foxes and aggressive squirrels

I've played this course a couple of times before so I wasn't a stranger to the course. The 100 sand bunkers and the wind make this a very challenging course for the average golfer. But the views of SF across the bay are awesome. Greens are generally well maintained and play true. The tee boxes were being plugged and reseeded when I played. Otherwise, the course was in nice shape and it was a great experience. Be aware of the wild life. The foxes will approach you if you have food. The squirrels will search your cart and take any food when you park near the 10th green.

Generally Just OK

The course was pretty much open, noone pushing and we did not have to wait. The value was reasonable, but I was not that impressed with the course condition, several bad spots in the fairways we had to move balls to have decent lies in the fairways to many times. even near sprinkler heads sometimes no grass.

Amazing value

Good gracious, for the money there's nothing like it. The course is really, really good. Shot values are excellent -- if you play from the tips you'll use your whole bag.

The course is lovely and unencumbered by housing. It winds through marshland on the Bay, a nice walk dotted with wildlife. We were visited by the famous foxes on several holes. There was thatching being done on the tee boxes, but the fairways and greens were in great shape.

And I paid $34 for this. It's a better course, frankly, than Half Moon Bay's Ocean course, and at a fraction of the cost. Trade out ocean views for Bay views and come to Monarch Bay, is my advice.

Nice variety of holes but slow pace of play

This is one of my favorite courses for the price in the area. The fairways and greens are usually in better condition than the local competition and the layout provides many interesting holes. Lots of opportunities for the occasional par even for hackers like myself. Heading into the last four in the afternoon when the wind gets up is a challenge but the views are worth it. Unfortunately, the pace of play and lack of marshalling on weekends (if you don't get out around sunrise) is almost as bad as Tilden, so expect a 5-hour+ round.

Nice Course with Great Views Of The SF Bay

Unless you grew up in Texas learning to play in the wind, this course is best played in the morning to avoid some of the afternoon wind. But, it's a beautiful links course with unbelievable views of the bay at any time of day. I generally am not a big fan of links style courses, but I have to say I really like this one. They give you lots of room to land your tee shots, and it's always in good condition it seems. There are a ton of bunkers on this course, so you may want to polish up on your bunker play before attempting it. In addition to all the great scenery this course has to offer, we were treated to a visit from a fox on the 10th green! Cool little critter and very smart, he was after our lunch and kept trying to get to one of them for 3 holes! We had to keep someone on guard at the carts at all times. He eventually left us in search for less diligent golfers, but he was cool to look at so close, and a memorable addition to a memorable round of golf.

Best course on a hot day.

My favorite East Bay course. Located next to marina, best course on a hot day. You'll appreciate the typical afternoon breezy conditions. Also has well maintained greens and fairways. Stay out of bunkers, will ruin your score!
