Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 03/2019.
The Country Club of Orange Park provides a scenic challenge with a diverse landscape of protected wetlands and towering oak trees. There is also a bird sanctuary that runs along the entire right side of the first five holes, offering golfers a glimpse of the wildlife that inhabit the golf course including wild turkeys, deer, and osprey. The layout features tree-lined fairways and large greens. The golf course has a more traditional feel with tees and fairways that were cut close to the greens, resulting in a narrow field of play. There is water on 14 holes and bunkers strategically placed around the greens.

This course has terrible greens
Great layout. Very poor greens, some of the worst in the area, despite the amount of rain received this year.
Country Club of Orange Park
This is a very challenging layout and it was fun to ply. The tees and fairways are in excellent condition. The greens need alot of attension.
Disappointing experience
This was my first time playing at this course, even though I have lived less than 10 minutes from it for over 15 years. I found a great deal on GolfNow, and decided to give it a shot. We pulled up, placed our bags into the golf cart and went inside the pro shop to check in. The attendant in the pro shop, who was extremely friendly, looked up our tee time and printed our ticket. So far so good. We headed to the starter/beer girl (who was also extremely friendly) and she sent us on our way. The first tee box looked great, but once we got to the green, we had our first taste of what the round would entail. On the very edge of ever single green were massive spots of dead and/or dying grass patches. It was absolutely horrendous. And it wasn't even a few select greens that were less than stellar - every green was awful. On top of that, not only were the fringes in horrible condition, across the entire greens themselves there were bumps and patches of different kinds of grass making reading a putt downright impossible. It was also hard to tell our distances, and there weren't very many yardage markers, and I don't own a rangefinder, so a lot of the time we were searching for the closest markers, or downright guess our distances. The only things this place had going for it were the friendly staff, the dollar draft beers, and the fact that it was wide open and we basically had the course to ourselves the entire time. That being said, I am extremely glad I got the discounted rate through GolfNow, seeing as the club itself charges nearly double what I paid. Had I paid the normal (non-discounted GolfNow rate) I would have been furious. My playing partner and I agreed before we were even done the front nine that we would never play that course again, no matter how cheap we could get on.
nice layout no 2 holes are the same
the greens were rough to say the least - this is uncommon for this course
Greens are in bad shape
Greens were virtually destroyed. They really need to work on these before I would come back. Additionally, there was no beverage/snack cart and the snack bar was closed at the turn at 10 am. A shame as the course has a very good layout.
Not in great condition
The greens were gone. Nothing but dirt and splotches of grass. Not sure what happened to them, but you couldn't putt them. I'm a former member of this club and it's a great layout but the greens made it virtually unplayable.
Some one needs training
I don't know who designed this course but they did a great job.
I don't know who is maintaining this course but they need training.
The fairways are well maintained. The greens are ruined. There is more sand on the greens than the bunkers... Patches of weed throughout the green made it impossible to get a true roll. This was a real disappointment. We played here in March and the greens although rough on some spots were running quick and true. Better courses to play.. Off my list.
Greens are terrible after aeration. I'm not sure if some of the greens will come back this year.
This is usually a great course but most of the greens are in terrible condition after aeration.
greens in horrible shape
What happened to the greens? You should tell people about them before they pay, and also discount when the greens are torn up like that
We used to love OPCC
We golfed at OPCC last weekend and the course conditions were horrible. What a waste of money - the greens were so bad that a putt wouldn't even travel flat on the dead grass. We won't be heading back here anytime soon!
Don't waste your time or money.
I hate to be a critic but I wish that someone would have told me about this course so I could have saved my time and money. First off when we got there the pro shop said they did not have any range balls. Which stinks b/c I like to warm up before playing. but then I saw another guy after me walk up to the range with a bag of balls. Maybe it was b/c I wasn't a member.
The course is laid out pretty good, which is probably the only positive thing I can say about the course. The greens were terrible! I think they had some kind of fungus on them. The fairways looked like they rarely got watered. And to make matters worse, there was no ranger monitoring play and it took 5 hours! The only good news was that on one par 4 300 yard hole I was so mad that I leaned into my drive and put it on the green. The guys were still putting! lol I did apologize as I felt terrible and they were gracious and complemented my drive. Anyway, there are way too many other courses that are far better and better priced in Jacksonville. Trust me and go to another course! This one is over priced and under maintained.
Ok. Greens need attention.
If you play the blue or good tees this is a very tough layout. Plays tougher than the yardage. Fairways are in good shape. Greens need attention, although they do roll ok. There is no hole layout on the teebox or scorecard so getting something showing layout from pros shop would be good since there are a few " hidden" hazards. Staff was super nice. Pretty tight off of the teebox. Greens are average size.
Very friendly staff and well-maintained course.
Nice course and good value. All members of the staff were friendly and helpful. Moderate course with a few challenging holes. Would play this course again.
Slow but enjoyable
Crowded; waited on most shots including after par 3s. Ofverall good condition. Greens rolled true but a little slow for me.
Course is worth the play
Greens were a little rough but outside of that everything was great. Enjoyed the course and the round. Need to get out there more often. Worth the price.
Greens were very spotty and had inconsistent speed.
Greens were very spotty and had inconsistent speed.
Greens were terrible but staff was great.
I played in a foursome and we teed off at 3:00pm. It took us three hours to play the front nine because we had to let several twosomes and a lot of singles play through. They had no starter or ranger that afternoon.
Needs Attention, Hacker Course
I took some friends who were visiting to this course since I live in the neighborhood. Overall, the shape of the course was embarassing. I have read a few reviews and there is no way anyone could claim this course is in good shape. Many of the greens are more like sand traps and it is obvious maintenance of the course is lacking. Fairways and roughs need attention as there are bald spots which need attention.
After we paid for our round we could not locate a cart so we had to track someone down to get a cart. Then we discovered we did not have scorecards, we then had to go back into the proshop to get the cards. After 9 holes of slow play due to groups ahead of us we decided to get a drink in the clubhouse. After about 10 minutes or so we returned and were directed to skip hole 10 and go to 11. Which was frustrating. Overall, this course needs better mangement altogether. I would not recommend.
Several Greens are in bad shape. Nice layout
Fun course to play. greens need attention. The layout is challenging at times
Overall the course is in good shape. 3 or 4 greens need work as they have sereral bare spots.
Second time in a week playing the course. Which means the deal and the course must have been good or I would not have returned. Enjoyable round without much waiting on each hole.
