Palatka Golf Club

T h e greens didn't have any grass on them. They are rather small targets. They were very hard and holding them was difficult. I'm hoping to come back later in the year and play again!

The course is what you would expect from a Donald Ross design - relatively short with small, inverted greens. The fairways were in good condition but the greens were mostly dead and weren’t holding for most approach shots.

My complaint, though, has little to do with the course itself. Rather, the staff was the least friendly that I have ever met while golfing in Florida. There was no welcome to our course, no introduction to the intricacies of the Palatka golf course and no starter to tell us when we were on the first tee. I was passed the key for the golf cart and that was it.

Although I usually make Palatka one of the courses I play in the area I fear that tradition has ended.

The layout is great and the staff is friendly. The fairways were beautiful but the greens need help.

Was definitely worth playing for the price. They were in the process of punching the greens so would definitely like to try another time.

We had an 11:45 Sunday morning tee time that went off a few minutes early. We were a foursome - two in a cart and two walking. The course was very walkable. As one would expect from a Ross design - greens were small, crowned and well maintained as were the fairways which were lush and provided a welcome respite from the Bermuda tight lies I’m used to in the area. Sand bunkers and tee boxes could use a bit more TLC. Most surprising was pace of play! Other. reviews have commented on painfully slow rounds. We enjoyed one of the fastest muni rounds I’ve played on a weekend coming in at 3:25 as a foursome that had two walkers - the tee sheet was full for the most part. The staff was friendly and helpful in both the pro shop and restaurant. In closing for the price paid it was a really great value and the two first timers on our group can’t wait to come back again!

Nice rolling course with well maintained fairways and greens. Tees need work. Traps and bunkers average. Pace of play average to good. Good breakfast lunch menu. Worth the drive.

Palatka Golf Course is a historic Donald Ross designed course. Most of the tee boxes and greens were in good shape. However the pace of play was slow taking our foursome nearly 5 hours to play 18 holes. The Pro Shop manager was confrontational with the threesome which rounded out the foursome I was in relative to tardiness for the tee time. Our tee time was 10:22 however the foursome in front of us had failed to tee off on time and had not even reached the halfway point of hole number one. While the Pro Shop manager was correct that the threesome portion arrived late - the situation could have been handled in a less berating and degrading manner.

To start, this course is moderately challenging. Some holes have narrow fairways, most of the greens are very small, a lot of holes are blind tee shots(can't see the green), and there was a lot of false fronts. If I had played this course a few times before I would have scored better(prior hole knowledge helps greatly on this course). The greens and fairways were in decent shape, the rough was somewhat long, the bunkers were horribly maintained. The only real negative takeways were how weird the holes were laid out. It felt like we would finish a hole, only to drive backwards down the fairway to the teebox on the next hole. This left you feeling very vulnerable to groups behind you that were hitting their approach shots. Also, many teeboxes were extremely close to the back of some of the greens, so if a player from the group behind were to hit a long shot, we would be ducking for our lives as we tried to tee off. This situation was made even worse since it was a busy Saturday afternoon. Aside from the odd layout, the course was fun to play. The only other thing to mention was the driving range. The driving range is actually an irrigation pond that you hit floating balls into. The novelty factor is cool, but makes for actual practice irrelevant. There are no targets, the balls do not fly very far or straight, and you have no sense of how good you are directionally. The only thing beneficial was to loosen up the body by hitting balls aimlessly into a body of water...which like I said felt pretty cool.

Nice golf course, not terribly long, forgiving, postage size greens. Overall very enjoyable to play.

Playing golf out in the country has its charm.. But also some rough spots. The cart paths can knock you around a bit..

Fairways and greens in good shape. Nice layout. Raised tiny greens can be a good test of your short game.

Some say it's a tight course.. I don't think so.. Good wide fairways and some good doglegs.. Will play again.

Beautiful layout a bit off the beaten path for Florida golf. A hidden gem! Open layout with challenges due to tree placement and small greens. Greens are mostly crowned so putting is not easy. I play here every year I come down.

Course is in good shape, challenging in some spots, forgiving in others. Will play again..
