Palatka Golf Club
About
Neighbor to the beautiful Ravine State Gardens, Palatka Golf Club offers a game that is as scenic as it is entertaining. Designed by Donald Ross in 1925, the golf course was created with all skill levels of golfers in mind. The layout is player friendly, but there are still many challenging elements to keep golfers on their toes, including Ross' signature "turtleback" greens. There are also numerous bunkers fiercely guarding the greens. The signature hole of the course is the par-3 third. This 188-yard hole is a test of accuracy, requiring a difficult tee shot to a well bunkered green. Palatka Golf Club also offers a unique aqua driving range for golfers to use.

Fun cou
This is a typical old course with a great layout.. There were several tee boxes that needed some grass in the teeing areas, the greens were pretty good, some were very small, which we thought was great.. putted pretty true.. Was definitely worth the drive from North Jacksonville!!
Course Conditions Are Improving
Greens, although a little slow are just about there. Tee boxes are getting better and the fairways are solid. My only complaint is the rough. It is pretty much all weeds. Its a city owned course, so you appreciate what they do with the little funding that they get. I love the layout and the elevation changes.
Nice challenging corps
Course was nice too many kids . Made the day real long And the starter was a jerk.
Slow greens
Tee boxes need attention! Small greens and very slow… pace of play was terrible should pair up singles and doubles
Course was in fair shape, They have been getting a lot of rain. They were not able to maintain the course to the normal great shape. But overall worth the money.
Always Great!
All great at Palatka. Layout, staff, pace and condition all superb.
The course needs some work. Greens were very slow. Weeds are taking over. Nice old course, but needs some attention.
4 1/2 Stars
Finally got around to playing this course. Although there were some rough tee boxes I felt that overall this was a very well kept golf course especially with regards to recent summer rains and tropical storm rain bands. Staff is doing a good job in catching up with all the mowing. Other recent reviews suggested greens that were unacceptable. I didn't find this to be the case. Some sand or bald areas, but pin placement pretty much took the worst out of play. (Sanding greens, although inconvenient for golfers, are a necessary part of green management). And frankly this is summer in Florida at a public course.
Loved the layout, variety of hole designs (straight, dog legs right and left) and lengths. And was very pleasantly surprised to find actual soft and playable sand in the bunkers.
It was a pleasure and I would recommend this course.
Greens Need Work
I really love playing this course. It’s challenging and keeps you guessing. The major problem right now are the greens. Most of them have a fungus issue and putting is not good. The staff is aware and are working the issues. When the greens heal, I’ll be back!
Top 30 public course in America?
I will say first that the course layout was nice and challenging . I don't know how this course made Golf Digest top 30 public courses America! The greens had clumps of sand on them, and the ones that didn't were dry. I drove from Middleburg to play this course and was disappointed with the course conditions. I will admit this was two days after the tropical storm hit florida.Should have kept course closed until it's up to par.
Worth the trip
I never thought of Palatka for golf until saw the course on a top 30 muni list. An hour ride through scenic country side was trouble free and worth the effort. The oak lined fairways and hard dog legs reward shots in the fairway and penalize wayward shots into the rough. A lot of elevation changes add to choosing the right club. Small greens with a lot of tilt. Played a few weeks after top dressing so they were slow but very true. Couldn’t hit it hard enough, even down hill. Hope to go back when they roll a little quicker.
Greens were in bad shape
The droubt really hurt this course. This is the last time I play it if it has been dry. They need a new greenskeeper who know how to grow grass.
Needs Help...Quickly
Played 4 courses in the past 10 days...all public. Without a doubt this was the greatest disappointment.
Tee boxes: Were not groomed....several were undistinguishable from the rough...overgrown, weedy, not level...
Rough: Ragged...Overgrown with weeds being the main ground cover for 'greenery'.
Fairways: The occasional spot of green 'grass' stood out against a background of tan.
Greens: Bare dirt, dead grass, and weeds...
Donald Ross has to be rolling over in his grave!
