Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

much better
This is the first time I've played here in a long time and it is much improved. Tee's and greens are in good shape. Fairways are good but a preferred lie is needed as some fairways have bald spots. Rough areas can be very rough but overall it is a very playable course. I always loved the layout and I would recommend giving this course another try if you have not played it in a while.
layout is very good
good value
greens little too slow
fairways could be more plush
What a difference a year makes!!
I have lived on this course for 10 years now and watched it go down hill steadily. The Hampton Group bought it and now the greens are all putt-able, the tee boxes are much better, and the course is wonderful. This is the best value in Tampa now in my opinion and as long as the greens fees stay around 20 dollars, I think it should start to get a lot of play. The layout is super and beginners to experts will have fun on it. The range and practice facilities rival private courses and Beef's is here for food and drink. Thanks to Hampton group for saving this course.
very senic course
I was happy to see all the greens looking good. the last time I played tarpon they were in terrible shape. I enjoy the course because it has a senic layout and is farily difficult. I hope they will be doing the fairways and tee boxes soon. Also please go back to electric carts. I will be back again.
Hot Deal... for the money
Booked a foursome with a Hot Deal and I have to say the price was awesome! I spend a lot of time at Tarpon Woods because of the Beef O'Bradys there. We've had more than a few birthdays and events at that clubhouse, the atmosphere is fun!
Positives:
The layout and scenery are exceptional. Love the long par 5s, and the par 3s are extremely forgiving for the average player. If you've never been to a course around Brooker Creek, this is a great example of one, for the money. I can't believe how many fish are in those ponds!
Negatives:
Why, oh why, with the lawnmower/gas-powered carts??? Talk about ruining a pristine moment, when you're idling at the same noise-level as a Mustang 5.0. Tee boxes were grossly unmaintained. I couldn't find a clean patch on most holes to drive from. Sand traps looked more like mud holes, as in the guy who raked them did it with a bazooka.
I would *barely* recommend this course right now, and only because I've seen it in much, much better condition.
VERY POOR NOT WORTH playing even if it was free!!!!!!!
condition of course is very poor, mostly not taken care of, spotty grass, leaves all over the greens inconsistant tee makers
Very nice layout.
The course design is nice with a good variety of holes. A few fairways need some attention but the greens were very playable. The course is good value for the fees charged. The family of deer on # 10 was a nice bonus.
Beautiful Surroundings
First time I played here but definitely not the last. Got a great deal through Golfnow.com and played the best game of my life!
This course has great features
Beautifull full course, Green excellent condition, staft cordial
Average, but worth a visit.
Greens were decent. Most of the tee boxes were being repaired. some of the fairways were waterlogged. Don't play this course after a hard rain. But for the lower price of admission compared to other courses in the area, I think it's worth a visit.
Fun course to play. Enough water to keep you interested.
It looks like they are still having to water the course to empty out the ponds due to the heavy rains a week or so ago. Not a real problem and there was no cart path only requirement.
Great fun, Great Staff and good Golf
Very wet conditions made it difficult to negotiate some holes however it was easy to attack the pins. Overall a great experience and lots of fun.
the course was not challenging
course fairways are weeds also tee boxies if you call them tee boxies are very bad
Diamond in the Rough
Six months ago this golf course wasn't even playable and it was hard to discern the fairway from the rough. Yesterday (9-17-13), the back nine was closed due to all of the work being done, so we played the front 9 twice. The owner(s) are putting some big dough into revitalizing this true 72 par golf course. The course has a great layout and due to the work being done, I expect that in a few months it will be in great shape. I will recommend this course to my friends and will definitely play Tarpon Woods again.
getting better
greens are greatly improved. t boxes and fairways need attention
This is a fun course because you get to see many birds and animals.
In view of the fact we have had a considerable amount of rain ...the course was maintained as well as could be expected. We had a great time as usual We got to see many deer, Sand Hill Cranes, Gators, and we had a hawk follow us aroud to just about every hole. 08/26/2013
Beautiful course, needs attention to fairways.
This is a wonderful course, but it does not drain, so you are playing mud ball. The fairways need attentions as well as the rough. We had a cart path only and the 3 some in front which was older men, were driving all over the place, slower than----- while the two some behind was using loud profanity and was disrupting us on the tee box. I have played this course prior, but yesterday we left.
MUCH improved greens --- actually in pretty darn good condition.
This course was VERY wet but they only had two holes as "cart only". The staff suggested that we be careful on the other holes. I always enjoy the nature part of this course. We saw turkeys, deer, many other birds, alligators, snakes (not dangerous), and river otters. The price was fabulous (on Golf Now) but the play was difficult because of all the water.
Good track, not so great conditions
The greens have been improved. The course was very very wet the day I played. Water standing on cart paths and on fairways. If it was dry, I might have rated it a little better. Greens were much improved over what I have seen in the past.
