Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

Course condition
The fairways still need work and the quality of the bunker sand could be a lot better.
However, there has been a noticeable improvement in the condition of the greens since 2-3 years ago.
Improving but needs more work
The course has improved from its deplorable condition from a few years ago. It still needs to improve. Most of the tee boxes are sand with sparse grass. There are numerous places both in the rough and in the fairways that have no grass at all. The greens have improved dramatiy and most are good to excellent. The sand traps are mediocre to poor. I love the course layout. It just needs a lot more work.
New Name- Can't hide a pig
I hadn't played this course since last year, and the reason was the last time I played it, it was lousy. Frankly, for the money, there were so many other courses around just down the road in fact, that were much better. But the same thing happened this year, there are so many golfers down here from up North, that I call it the overflow effect- the best courses for the best value, are booked, then everyone just tries to find what is left. Booker Creek, was the name last year, but even with a new name, this course has not improved, barren and rough fairways, no water to drink, other than a cart girl, tee boxes have no grass and are uneven. Greens, on some holes, are average, the others are rough shape.
good everyday course
Course coming back from turf challenges as I understand. Greens good. Layout good. Tough for directionally challenged. Bring extra balls. Overall adequate everyday type of course. Good value.
working on it
very golf management demanding course. tight fairways and blind landing areas. fairways are sparse in a lot of places. greens are slow but in better shape than bayou club 3 weeks ago. all and all a beautiful setting. go ahead test your skill level
tarpon wood review
The staff were fast and friendly, the pace was a little slow, the greens were in excellent conditions but the fairways were sandy and bare in spots, the fairways actually require quite a bit of work but other than that the course is a fair challenge for the money. Lots of small gators in the ponds for viewing.
Greens good
Live and play most of my golf in Southern Pinellas. Played this Northern Pinellas course yesterday. The Greens were in great shape although they are much slower than other courses ( not a bad thing , just different) Fairways were thin and sparse on most of the holes. Lots of doglegs with blind spots (due to narrow landing areas and trees) Course knowledge can be very helpful here. All and all very picturesque among the woods , water and wildlife. May be best to try the course out of season (after the snowbirds leave) as the rounds can be very slow (as at most all courses this time of year)....Will probably give it another try in the summer.
Good deal for the money.
A lot of good holes, none of them are too demanding.
People at course are great, especially cart girl. Charge was reasonable compared to other courses. Greens were fine, but rest of course needs work. We rolled everything over and even then it was hard at times to find some nice grass. Course layout on the scorecard would be a big help as would more yardage markers.
Duffers at play
Very challenging fun course. Very well maintained and great greens.
This course needs more care
Fairways were bare in a lot of areas. Greens need to be cut. Nice layout but needs more care.
Good course for a fun round
We had not played the course in a couple of years. Some improvement has been made on the greens. It was overbooked, so you had to wait on every tee. It is a fairly close in course to play for vacationers staying at the beaches.
Great cost
This is a nice Golf course but it needs one TLC.The greens need to be cut on a more regular basis and fairways need also more care.Overall it would be a great course with proper care.
The price is right.
Poor condition
For me this was a 45 minute drive, one reason why I would not go back, course condition was not very good, fairway in particular, greens on front nine were poor. Staff and clubhouse facilities were fine.
Tarpon Woods 02-23-14
Course is in the best shape that it has been in in 8 years. Still needs work on fairways but green are a major improvement.
Fun Course
The course was a lot of fun to play. The staff was friendly and the greens putted true. I will definitely come back to this course.
The course has made improvements
This course has improved since the last time I played it. The greens were in good shape but were a little slow. I would definantly play it again.
Play was slow as well as the greens
Overall it was OK, they are trying to grow grass on the greens so not cut short making the greens slow compared to the greens of other courses played lately.
Could be better
The course was full and the pace was very slow. There are many challenging holes and the greens are in good shape. However most of the fairways are fairly rough and need work. The staff are friendly and the starter was very helpful.
Course in great condition
Definatly a good value.. Had a great afternoon. Will recomend to friends and family
