Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

Average, but worth a visit.
Greens were decent. Most of the tee boxes were being repaired. some of the fairways were waterlogged. Don't play this course after a hard rain. But for the lower price of admission compared to other courses in the area, I think it's worth a visit.
Fun course to play. Enough water to keep you interested.
It looks like they are still having to water the course to empty out the ponds due to the heavy rains a week or so ago. Not a real problem and there was no cart path only requirement.
Great fun, Great Staff and good Golf
Very wet conditions made it difficult to negotiate some holes however it was easy to attack the pins. Overall a great experience and lots of fun.
the course was not challenging
course fairways are weeds also tee boxies if you call them tee boxies are very bad
Diamond in the Rough
Six months ago this golf course wasn't even playable and it was hard to discern the fairway from the rough. Yesterday (9-17-13), the back nine was closed due to all of the work being done, so we played the front 9 twice. The owner(s) are putting some big dough into revitalizing this true 72 par golf course. The course has a great layout and due to the work being done, I expect that in a few months it will be in great shape. I will recommend this course to my friends and will definitely play Tarpon Woods again.
getting better
greens are greatly improved. t boxes and fairways need attention
This is a fun course because you get to see many birds and animals.
In view of the fact we have had a considerable amount of rain ...the course was maintained as well as could be expected. We had a great time as usual We got to see many deer, Sand Hill Cranes, Gators, and we had a hawk follow us aroud to just about every hole. 08/26/2013
Beautiful course, needs attention to fairways.
This is a wonderful course, but it does not drain, so you are playing mud ball. The fairways need attentions as well as the rough. We had a cart path only and the 3 some in front which was older men, were driving all over the place, slower than----- while the two some behind was using loud profanity and was disrupting us on the tee box. I have played this course prior, but yesterday we left.
MUCH improved greens --- actually in pretty darn good condition.
This course was VERY wet but they only had two holes as "cart only". The staff suggested that we be careful on the other holes. I always enjoy the nature part of this course. We saw turkeys, deer, many other birds, alligators, snakes (not dangerous), and river otters. The price was fabulous (on Golf Now) but the play was difficult because of all the water.
Good track, not so great conditions
The greens have been improved. The course was very very wet the day I played. Water standing on cart paths and on fairways. If it was dry, I might have rated it a little better. Greens were much improved over what I have seen in the past.
Great course a lot of fun !
Great layout ! great price ! overall great shape for a public course. The greens are the best Ive ever seen them , in the past they always had trouble with greens and tee area's . There trying hard to maintain these areas, there were grounds keepers out working which I never saw 5 to 10 years ago. I love the layout , it gives you a challenge yet doesn't beat you up, It blows away anything in the immediate area of Palm harbor that's public. totally blows away Chi Chi's and Silver Dollar,12
Enjoyed the course layout, but needs some work.
My big complaint would be I played on a weekday. (No beverage cart on the course except weekends) The heat index was over 100 degrees. They had 2 water fountains on the course and the water was warm. If I play there again I will bring my own ice water and jug. Went inside the Beef O'Brady's at the turn and ask for ice water. They were accommodating but didn't seem to like the idea that I wanted ice water and nothing else. (I did leave a dollar tip) Also on the 10th hole I encountered a group of five players none of which belonged on the course (driving range only beginners) They would not let me play through so I picked up and went around them to the next tee. No Ranger around, must have been with the beverage cart person.
A nice layout in need of attention
Fairways and bunkers were not in good shape, often needing considerable attention. Greens, however had been aerated recently and obviously were getting reasonable levels of maintenance. It is a shame to see decent layouts like this fall into disrepair, but economic conditions being what they are, this is not an unusual situation.
Great Course
This is a great course if your limited with time. The course is challenging enough to keep any type of golfer engaged.
Greens were nice / Fairway Rough very wet, tall grass
For a change the greens were in very good shape (they are never consistent with their green conditions) - Due to a lot of Rain the rough was impossible, Fairway were below average - needs to dry out and be cultivated better. Overall Course needs a little more attention.
BEAUTIFUL COURSE, GREAT STAFF
This is a lovely course. The greens and fairways are in fantastic shape. Lots of dog legs and fun holes. Can't wait to play it again. The clubhouse and restaurant are very nice. Very clean and accommodating. Bartender was a good guy. Beer is cheap!
Needs some serious TLC
This course could be great and from the sound of things they are spending some money trying to revitalize it. The layout is great, tight in some spots but challenging, played right through a family of wild deer which was awesome, and the creek was really nice too. The problem comes in with the grass, or weeds, or dirt or whatever you want to call it. Bottom line, with a really good greenskeeper and the right chemicals/ products and some money this place could be great, but until that happens don't expect to be able to putt or hit irons on good grass.
Always improving
Tarpon Woods has a great layout and the views and wildlife are everywhere. After a few years of decline the course is now well maintained and managed and those of us who play it regularly have seen marked improvement in the golf course, especially in the past year with great attention to repairing greens and making the course more playable. The greenskeeper and pro are working tirelessly to make Tarpon a course that offers great value and a fun experience. Pro shop staff are all friendly and helpful.
this course needs major overhaul! I paid $11 for round. When I arrived for 2:37pm tee off,was told front nine was being seeded and close for play.
Played back nine twice. Creek overflowing on #10 causing anything right of cart path wet. The tee boxes on four holes were very trashy or moved to allow play. The fairways had standing water or were soaked.I also don't like the gas powered golf carts, noisy and not helpful to other players by tees or greens.I like the layout but course needs tending to tee boxes and several greens.Put your money in those features and you can command better fees. The course deserved its $11 greens fee. Thanks for allowing me to vent.7
Beautiful course...creek runs thru
The course was fun!! Great challenge,Just needs to be MAINTAINED.... Mow Mow, Mow the fairways!!!
