Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

Mostly a dirt track
The course has good layout but conditions are TERRIBLE. Tees have virtually no grass on them and many fairways are basically sand with a thin layer of crabgrass on top. The day I played the greens were aerified and very bumpy but there was no warning of that fact online. Management needs to spend money on overseeding otherwise the course will burn out over the summer and turn into dirt everywhere, which would be a shame.
Great value
Uncrowded, friendly staff. Recent aeration made the greens a little bumpy, but that should improve quickly.
Good layout - currently needs more work to be a quality experience.
Having just wanted to work on my t-shots and approach shots this course was fine. The greens are spotty and recently punched. The rough is really rough and there are many places where instead of grass there is sand. It appears they working on the course to improve it. It does have a nice layout and at one time was much better. New management has taken over since the last time I played it. I was able to book this round cheap through Golf Now. It was about the same price as a bucket or two of balls and you get to hit all the shots and putt so it was worth it. Again, I wouldn't want to try to play a competitive round out here.
Very poorly maintained.
Brought some friends in from out of town for a Friday evening round before a weekend of golf.
The price was right, $15 for an afternoon. The staff in the pro shop and bar were very friendly.
The course itself was just poorly maintained. The tee boxes are uneven and unmowed. The turf on the fairways had substantial weeds.
The greens were being aerated. Would have been nice to know before we teed off. Overall, the greens were borderline unplayable. They were bumpy, sandy, unevenly mowed, and there were many spots in ill-repair.
If you just want to get an uncompetitive round in for $15, sure. If you going to play some golf, i wouldn't recommend it.
Would not play this course again. Very poor condition and no water on either nine for drinking.
Bad course and certainly not worth the green fees. Plus they had just pinched and didn't bother to inform of the very poor greens condition.
Good Value
I've played Tarpon Woods many times and its a good course for the money. Greens are in need of attention on a few holes but its a wide open course that plays well to intermediate players.
Great price, but course needs some attention.
The price was great, with beautiful wild-life. But the course needs some attention on fairways, and putting greens.
Excellent value.
Tarpon Woods is an excellent value. The course offers some scenic beauty and abundant wildlife. One cannot beat the costumer service. It is challenging enough but not so difficult as to frustrate the average golfer. Some of the greens had some rough spots to them but that is common this time of the year when the rye is dying off. I enjoyed my outing there.
Course has great potential, nice layout
Course has great potential. Needs greens work, ball cleaners did not have water. No drinking water on the course and no mobile snack/refreshment services.

Will play the course again when conditions are improved.
We were disappointed at the condition of the fairways and greens. Since we only paid $19 per person we did not feel too bad. Green conditions cost us more putts then normal. Looks like they are trying to get some of the greens in shape yet they need to water badly! Playing the fairway was quite often like playing in the rough. The course is beautifully laid out and if the course was in an improved condition this would be a wonderful course to play. The course condition is sad; we heard after the fact this was once a really well maintained course. Looking forward to the day the course condition improves.
Course conditions keep getting worse
I found this place about a year ago when they changed the name and possibly ownership. At that point the course was in decent shape and a great value for the cost. Since then, each time I've been back they say the greens are being worked on and the conditions are their priority. Yet each time it got worse. Yesterday the place hit rock bottom. The fairway is littered with dry, dead areas and hard-pan, the tee boxes are mangled with little to no grass to hit from and the greens...My God. That's the worst part. They were baren and dry, so fast but that was not because of good conditions. It was dry and baren in mnay places with the dirt and other dry areas painted green to look lole grass. MOst greens we played two putt max b/c of the conditions. The surface held nothing. It was like playing in a parking lot. I won't be back for a while if ever. Take my advice, unles the fees are $8 it's a rip off. Don't bother with this place. This was the last time for me until I know there have been SERIOUS improvements or the cost is under $10. .
Disappointing
The tees, fairways and green need a great amount of attention.
If the course were in better shape I would have continued the back nine in spite of the windy conditions. We left after nine holes.
Love the layout
The fairways and rough are bare, making it very hard to chip. The greens are also bare and some are very bumpy. The course is very beautiful and full of wild life and I like playing there. The course does need a lot of work and that is why i don't recommend it to friends.
A very nice course
We enjoyed our round at Tarpon Woods as well as the lunch at the Club's restaurant. The Pro shop is well equipped with clothing, accessories and golf bags.
this course is fun to play with your kids.
The course is an old layoutand unfortunately is not in the best of shape. Play is fast until you get to the greens. Running about a 7 --have played this course before and hope it gets back into shape.
Would be a great course if they maintained the greens
Excellent layout, good length. A lot of trees and good mix of sand and water hazards. The tee boxes are in poor condition, half are pretty good and half are filled with divots. The greens are unforgivable, super hard, burnt, missing grass, some are sandy. Fairways are in ok condition, very hard and dry, lots of roll. I could care less about everything except the greens. Bunkers are forgotten, some didn't even have rakes. After coming out of the winter season in FL (where fees are sky high and things should be as good as they get) its not a good sign for this course.
If you want a cheap course with a good layout and secluded its a good value. If you're looking to score your best then the greens are not going to allow it.
Course needs a new greens keeper
What a shame. It's a fun course but the tee box's a and the greens were in horrible condition.
Not worth it
Greens are in horrible condition. Fairways are sparse in terms of grass. No rangers on course to help speed of play. Seems that they used double bookings for some tee times.
STAYAWAY!
The pace of play was horrible. The best thing that could happen for this course would be a sellout to a cattle rancher. The greens were in very poor shape, fairways were poor, and tee boxes were awfull. I would never recommend this course to anyone. Price was too high as well. STAY AWAY !!!
