Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

Good track, not so great conditions
The greens have been improved. The course was very very wet the day I played. Water standing on cart paths and on fairways. If it was dry, I might have rated it a little better. Greens were much improved over what I have seen in the past.
Great course a lot of fun !
Great layout ! great price ! overall great shape for a public course. The greens are the best Ive ever seen them , in the past they always had trouble with greens and tee area's . There trying hard to maintain these areas, there were grounds keepers out working which I never saw 5 to 10 years ago. I love the layout , it gives you a challenge yet doesn't beat you up, It blows away anything in the immediate area of Palm harbor that's public. totally blows away Chi Chi's and Silver Dollar,12
Enjoyed the course layout, but needs some work.
My big complaint would be I played on a weekday. (No beverage cart on the course except weekends) The heat index was over 100 degrees. They had 2 water fountains on the course and the water was warm. If I play there again I will bring my own ice water and jug. Went inside the Beef O'Brady's at the turn and ask for ice water. They were accommodating but didn't seem to like the idea that I wanted ice water and nothing else. (I did leave a dollar tip) Also on the 10th hole I encountered a group of five players none of which belonged on the course (driving range only beginners) They would not let me play through so I picked up and went around them to the next tee. No Ranger around, must have been with the beverage cart person.
A nice layout in need of attention
Fairways and bunkers were not in good shape, often needing considerable attention. Greens, however had been aerated recently and obviously were getting reasonable levels of maintenance. It is a shame to see decent layouts like this fall into disrepair, but economic conditions being what they are, this is not an unusual situation.
Great Course
This is a great course if your limited with time. The course is challenging enough to keep any type of golfer engaged.
Greens were nice / Fairway Rough very wet, tall grass
For a change the greens were in very good shape (they are never consistent with their green conditions) - Due to a lot of Rain the rough was impossible, Fairway were below average - needs to dry out and be cultivated better. Overall Course needs a little more attention.
BEAUTIFUL COURSE, GREAT STAFF
This is a lovely course. The greens and fairways are in fantastic shape. Lots of dog legs and fun holes. Can't wait to play it again. The clubhouse and restaurant are very nice. Very clean and accommodating. Bartender was a good guy. Beer is cheap!
Needs some serious TLC
This course could be great and from the sound of things they are spending some money trying to revitalize it. The layout is great, tight in some spots but challenging, played right through a family of wild deer which was awesome, and the creek was really nice too. The problem comes in with the grass, or weeds, or dirt or whatever you want to call it. Bottom line, with a really good greenskeeper and the right chemicals/ products and some money this place could be great, but until that happens don't expect to be able to putt or hit irons on good grass.
Always improving
Tarpon Woods has a great layout and the views and wildlife are everywhere. After a few years of decline the course is now well maintained and managed and those of us who play it regularly have seen marked improvement in the golf course, especially in the past year with great attention to repairing greens and making the course more playable. The greenskeeper and pro are working tirelessly to make Tarpon a course that offers great value and a fun experience. Pro shop staff are all friendly and helpful.
this course needs major overhaul! I paid $11 for round. When I arrived for 2:37pm tee off,was told front nine was being seeded and close for play.
Played back nine twice. Creek overflowing on #10 causing anything right of cart path wet. The tee boxes on four holes were very trashy or moved to allow play. The fairways had standing water or were soaked.I also don't like the gas powered golf carts, noisy and not helpful to other players by tees or greens.I like the layout but course needs tending to tee boxes and several greens.Put your money in those features and you can command better fees. The course deserved its $11 greens fee. Thanks for allowing me to vent.7
Beautiful course...creek runs thru
The course was fun!! Great challenge,Just needs to be MAINTAINED.... Mow Mow, Mow the fairways!!!
This course needs maintenance
The area has had a lot of rain recently. This made the maintenance of the fairways and greens difficult or just not done. The rough was deep, as was the fairways. The greens needed cutting and cleaning. I understand, this is a result of the weather, so this course should be a pleasure to play when the staff resumes the daily maintenance.
Great course for the avid golfer
The setup and layout of the course make each hole different from the last and next so it provides an array of shots and clubs to be played and is great, whether an amateur or scratch golfer. Very scenic: saw several deer, wild turkeys, and a gator while playing so you feel in touch with the Florida landscape. Will definitely return :)
This is a course if upgrade and maicured would be an 'A' rated course.
Tie boxes need grass replaced. Some of the fairways require resoding.
Course still needs work
I know that it has been raining a lot recently, but the course was not in good shape. It was difficult to almost discern the rough from the fairway. While a little joking there, the fairway was not smooth and was what i would consider fringe on most other golf courses.
You were certainly not rewarded for hitting the fairway!
green are in great shap
Course was in great shap considring all the rain we have had lately. On of the few course that was not cart path only. My only negetative was slow play of foursome infront of us. But a great day sunny all day and was allowed to complete round.
Enjoyed- Very nice, Well taken care of.
The course has improved by 60 percent from the last time I played there. 40 days between the times I played. Great Job done by care takers. We will be back with friends. Guy
Don't waste your money
The greens are so slow you might as well pick up and take a three putt. The rough and areas right off the cart path are not taken care of. I am a 15 handicap and I dont usually loose many balls. I must have lost 6 balls and they were only a few feet from the cart path. All though I did find at least 8 balls. Anyway for the price go play somewhere like Cresent Oaks or Dunedin.
Course can be a challenge!
I really enjoy playing at Tarpon Woods but on this occasion the greens were super slow, which is usually not the case. Also the outlying areas of the course could have used some trimming.
But I will still play this course but before booking I will check on green conditions.
Very enjoyable yet challenging course. Decent course for money
Golf was very enjoyable at this course. Great nature, and certain challenges throughout. Appears they are working hard to get the course in better shape since under new ownership. General mgr was pleasant and very friendly. I would absolutely return. Facility was clean. not crowded, and a great restaurant for after golf
