No Longer The Bridges I remember.....

I booked the round after I noticed the 7:35am tee time was only $56 w/ cart included. I read the negative reviews here citing the terrible conditions but decided to go for it as it was the only early AM tee time in the area. I grew up playing The Bridges at a time when it was considered the premier public course in the East Bay and rounds were easily $100+. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. I don't know what happened but this course almost feels abandoned.

As others have mentioned, the tee boxes are in horrendous shape. We were told by a few members that apparently they fertilized the tee boxes at some point but forgot to water them..... I'm not sure how this happens, but the result left nearly every tee box on the course in unplayable condition with almost no grass to tee off from. Additionally, the greens are slow, soft and lumpy. I don't know what happened to this course, perhaps the combination of COVID and the recent heat waves are to blame but I sense a larger problem of shrinking profits which have lead to neglect of the course conditions.

It makes me sad to leave this review as I have many great memories of playing golf at the Bridges as a junior learning the game but this is simply not the course I remember. Honestly, the conditions are at a point where they would likely need to shut down the course for 3-6 months for a complete overhaul but my guess is they don't have the $$$ to make that happen. I worry if they continue to neglect the course the way it is now, it may become unsalvageable.

Tee Boxes in Awful Shape

I played The Bridges yesterday morning and wanted to share feedback with the staff and my fellow Bay Area golfers:

- Masks required at check in, near clubhouse.

- Ability to ride solo in cart for $5 extra.

- Speed of play was OK for a holiday / weekend morning.

- Course condition, quality is not in line with price of green fees.

- Tee boxes on majority of holes are in very poor condition. No grass, hitting off mud.

We are working hard to get the tee boxes back into shape. We had some agronomic issues with the tee boxes and a liquid compound was applied. The application that was applied was not given enough water and the excessive heat later that day caused a burn out of the grass. We are working hard to get this issue corrected. We apologize and thank you for your patience. Please email me directly at dosterberg@thebridgesgolf.com if you would like to further discuss.

Course conditions are EXTREMELY poor

Absolutely love the layout of this course . Played here 2 months ago and conditions were perfect but now it’s completely deserted. Tee boxes are dirt only, you’d be lucky to find a patch of grass. Greens are So beat up with players spike marks and divots everywhere. Sad because this course is very fun to play but would high recommend staying away till conditions get better.

Not sure what happened to this course

It was just about 100 degrees so the course should have played nice, but that wasn’t the case. There was a lot of standing water in 50% of the fairways and mud as well. I can count 4 Tee boxes that were average (Grass, decent footing, etc.). The rest were very poor. Some not even having any grass. For the amount that I paid for the the green fern and extra $10 for the Covid 19 cart, this was not worth it. You can find better value at other Bay Area courses.

Tee box conditions are ridiculous

this is a great layout and challenging course but lately the Tee Boxes have been getting worse and worse. There is nearly no grass left, just dirt in most places. No flat spots, very lumpy does not make for a good t shot. I like this course and conditions are usually good but for the price, these T boxes need to be completely redone. Will play Canyon Lakes until Bridges fixes these horrendous T boxes.

What happened?

Used to be my favorite course around the area, and surprisingly condition of the course became so bad recently. Tee boxes are all muddy, fairway and green did not properly trimmed. Not to mentioned the rough will always eat your balls. Please, the management needs to do something or you are losing people’s loyalty.

A nice track that really wants to be awesome with some TLC

I'm playing in a tournament here in October, so played a practice round this morning, since I had never played here. In general, I haven't been a fan of Johnny Miller designs, but this was interesting and far less penal than some of what he's done in other courses.

The staff was great - got me out early, since I arrived early. Our threesome played in 3:25, so great pace of play; that included the other guys having to look for a number of balls.

Design-wise, if you can keep the ball in play off the tee, it's very accessible. I'm not particularly good (4 hcp), and shot a 15 par/3 bogey 75 by basically staying in play with the tee shot, and getting on or around the greens.

Greens were in great shape, slow, but true. Fairways weren't spectacular, but well-groomed and very playable. The course was a little wet, but we played very early, and the Bay Area is having relatively high temperatures, so keeping the course watered overnight is good long-term.

The truly disappointing part was the tee boxes. They were basically dead, with very little grass. It appears that there might be a plan to let them die and completely rebuild them -- if so, TELL US. If it's just neglect, it's truly sad. I have played golf for 50 years, since age 7, and never seen such poor tee boxes.

Overall, for high handicappers who spray the ball, this course will be a challenge. If you can keep it in play, it's a fun layout.

Course conditions

Haven’t played here in some time ,and after playing today I know why.

Overall conditions below average.

Tee boxes in HORRIBLE shape.

Greens not what I would expect from a Semi private course. Slow, soft and looked as though they hadn’t been mowed in days.

Wouldn’t recommend playing here with all the other courses nearby.

Going downhill.

Tee boxes still awful after several months.

Seems some fairways are starting to head in that direction too.

Nothing from management to members. They've got lots of play and don't think they care about members too much.

such a pity.

Decent condition besides tee boxes

Course was in decent condition and would have been worth the $50 with a cart if it weren’t for the tee boxes. Without a doubt some of the worst I’ve ever seen
