Twin Isles, not worth the money
I hadn’t played Twin Isles for a few years, but was meeting friends in Punta Gorda and wanted to get in a round. The staff is pretty congenial, really no complaints, but nothing extraordinary.
The course however was definitely not worth what they are charging for season green fees. Tee boxes were fairly rough, fairways were dry and not in the best of shape either. The greens were in decent shape.
We were playing as a twosome, and were stuck behind a foursome that thought they were tour quality players. The foursome was playing so slow, there were at least 3 open holes in front of them, no Marshall to encourage them to pick up the pace. We couldn’t play through, because they were all playing from the forward tees, which were a good distance from the whites and blues,
I have played there a few times in the summer when the rates are affordable, and the course was in much better condition. When paying over $100 for a round of golf, I expect the course to at least be in good shape, maybe even have GPS on the carts. Honestly, it’s a $45-50 course in season, and a $25-30 course on summer rates.
Average….but probably recommend something else
Greens were the surprise. For the most part they were in great shape and rolled very nice. Course layout was decent except for one goofy hole. Pretty forgiving layout. However, the non-green conditions of the course were below average and the facilities were not great. Very limited selections, front nine never saw drink cart, no water on the course (to drink or wash balls).. seemed very value driven. Staff were great though! Very nice.
Slow play
Pace of play on the front nine was 2,5 hrs, back nine was much better.
Poor Condition for the Money
Unless you get a hot deal for $50 or less the
Course isn’t worth the money. Front nine is always worse condition than the back nine. Very little grass in front nine fairways. All around the bunkers are poor. The saving grace to this course is the greens are decent, with reasonable speed and the ball rolls well. Course layout is average. Many of the tees are beat up. BUT back nine condition is much better than the first nine.
Great golf course
Greens roll true and are in great shape only reason I didn’t give it 5 starts is the fairways are a little patchy but overall I would play this course everyday great layout and challenging. The staff are all very nice people from bartender the starter Steve felt very welcome
Fairways need work
Played with 3 Canadians and enjoyed their company.
The greens were fast, sometimes tricky to read, but in nice shape. Best part of the course. Lots of sand and water, and waste bunkers. Sand traps had shells, small stones and pebbles in them (not good).
Fairways were burnt out and weedy.
Green grass was sparse.
