Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.

The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Don't do it.

I will never play this course again. Nor will anyone I know.

1) I asked if they had a practice tee. Answered yes. When we got to course, we found out that it and the practice green were for the members only.

2) I asked to play only 9 because I was coming back from surgery. They have no 9-hole rate. We could play 9 but would pay for 18.

3) Presented my Big Summer Card. They don't take it this time of year. So it cos $90 instead of $60$

4) We left after 14 holes because it was so slow

5) Fairways were terrible.

6) Greens had cracked sun-dried mud on a number of greens.

7) Our cart died on No. 5. We sent messages 6 times to tell them. But no one came. We had to walk and push to get our cart through the rest of the nine. The new cart we got started dying on 12.

Don't do it.

Poor Condition

The course was in generally poor condition with the greens on the front nine being really bad.

They also do not allow guests to use the driving range as it was reserved for members only... and almost empty while we were there.

Not particularly welcoming.

Doubt that we will return to this course.

Over priced

The front nine was extremely bad shape, no grass on the fairways. The greens were patchy. The back nine was decent I would give it a 5 out of 10. We arrived and there were no carts available, they were waiting for players to return carts. 5 minutes before our time we got a cart but couldn’t hit balls to warm up. It was a nice course in its day but now very neglected. We paid $90 to pla. That is about $50. More than it is worth. We won’t go back.

Two different nines

This was my first time playing the Highlands course. I play 2-3 times a week to a 5 handicap. I concur with some other reviews that the front nine doesn't compare to the back. Some of the greens have bare spots and the the fairways coverage varies. The back is much better, fully grassed and nice greens, plus it's more wide open. I would still recommend the course, because the price point is very good when compared to what other courses in the area are charging.

Liked it despite front 9 condition

While there are tee, fairway, and green issues on some holes on the front side I would play there again. Once the condition issues (grass thin or bare in some areas) are resolved, I would rate this course 4 stars.
