The Highlands Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Highland golf course review
Front nine greens had allot of mold on them, they need tore up and re-planted.
Back nine holes were in good shape
Course staff was very accommodating
Poor value for the money.
Don’t believe the pictures. The course layout is nice but the greens on the front were horrible and the back wasn’t much better. For the price, I expected more grooming and better conditions. The pace of play was Okay but could of been much faster with an on course ranger. One foursome held the entire play back at least another 30-45 minutes. First experience in Sarasota but will not return to this course for sure.
Dog track
Greens and tees in poor shape, pace of play very slow(no rangers), not enjoyable!
nice course
The course was in decent shape. 1st and 18th green need some TLC. Overall the course was in good shape. Front 9 nice and challenging (tight in areas). Back 9 opens up (more forgiving.
We were pleasantly surprised with the course conditions. I played there a couple of years ago and the greens were in need of help. The tee boxes were OK and the fairways were especially lush when compared to some other courses in the area (Bent Tree, Tara). The greens were fine and putted true. One issue was #9. The present design guarantees slow play. The crossing hazard is misplaced and then once you cross the bridge the carts can’t bring you (efficiently) to your ball on the right side of the fairway! Move tees—#9 a par 4; #5 a par 5. Better signage because of construction
Horrible condition
I am a local golf course Asst Superintendent. Had family in town and wanted to play a different course but next to impossible to get a decent course this time of year (worst I’ve seen it)…. Anyways, I know this course gets pounded with play but wow….. as bad of greens and tee boxes I have seen, slight improvement on the back nine but when we transition from the rye back to Bermuda they are in trouble. I was embarrassed to have my guests pay $80…. And NO beverage cart on the course……. Certainly will not play here again
Very nice course
Very nice course. Staff were very friendly. Pace of play was average (4 hours 20 minutes). Marshall passed by 4 or 5 times. Tee boxes, fairways, and rough were in great shape for February in Florida. Greens were fast but many dead spots. Good access to drinking water, ice, and restrooms on the course. Range was available to members only. I would play this course again.
Good and Bad
Workers were all very friendly. Teed off on time. Front nine in bad shape, back nine in good shape. Made the turn at 3:45pm and could not buy food or water. Were not held up at all because the 2 we were paired with were terribly slow. left them behind on 10 and made the back nine in an hour and a half.
Such a disappointing experience at an overly pretentious club
Wow, what a bad experience we had. I have played all over the country at true country clubs and semi-private clubs that make this place look like a total joke. From the first moment we walked into the pro shop to pay where we were told that the practice facilities were only for member use, to the off-limits restaurant (also only for members) outsiders are truly treated like second-class citizens at this club. The public are relegated to playing their non-members course too, that has far worse conditions than their money cow they probably use to find their exclusive course and amenities save your money and avoid this stuffy club that has no reason to be.
