The Highlands Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

The course isn’t bad overall. The greens on the back nine are much better than the front. The greens are really slow. Will play again to see if it improves.
Poor quality course
The Highlands front 9 is in terrible condition. Year after year it gets worse and worse..On the other hand the back 9 is the opposite..take a look at Rosedale and you’ll see how quick a course can improve 180 degrees in one year…
Truly shocking
I wasn’t expecting much for $25 on golf now but I wouldn’t play on it for free .. worst course I’ve played in 30 years of golf !! You’ve been warned .. found out playing partners paid $49 … disgraceful !
A great day on the greens
This is an easier course than the Groves with lots of open space - some of the green entries were a little challenging but as whole all was well.
I played this course last February know and had a favorable experience, enough to go back again this weekend. Unfortunately this time the course was in very poor shape. The tea boxes were fairly chewed up and for the front line the greens were almost unplayable. On several greens there were large areas where patches of sod had been placed In a checkerboard pattern. Most of the greens had significant clumps of crabgrass or some other weeds. It was our impression that the greens had not had much maintenance for many many months. Interestingly enough the back nine was like a different course with very few of the greens in poor shape. A very strange outing to have two halves of the course playing so differently. Very frustrating.
Won’t go back
Arrived early, people in front of us didn’t show. They wouldn’t let us tee off early because we had gotten a deal via GolfNow. We stood waiting to tee off for 30 minutes.
Staff was very unfriendly. Marshal kept saying because we got a deal we would be treated differently than others
The course was in terrible shape.
Nice
Front 9 Good
Back excellent
Staff awesome
Covid Friendly
Have to be desperate
1st tee time on a Monday morning. Played with two regulars who were nice to play with. They informed me immediately about how bad the course conditions were. Ultimately, I was surprised that I was charged $49 to play a course in this condition.
Front nine greens were filled with bald spots or patches that were not taking. Greens were terrible. The back side were better but still lacking. Greens were receptive and when you went to fix your ball mark there was nothing to the greens.
Bunkers were full of foot prints and we were the 1st group. Seamed like they hadn't been maintained in awhile. Sand was inconsistent from wet and heavy to hard packed.
I didn't see one person working on the course during my round. Many workers driving around but did not witness any work. Front end staff were friendly and accommodating.
Must be better places to play for $49.
Course needs some TLC
The Highlands Course stretches over a large area. Some areas are not well marked. The greens are not in great shape, having bare spots and being fairly slow.
Front nine and greens are in really bad shape, Back nine is much, much better.
Highlands
It was a beautiful day but a little humid. Course was in good condition from tee to green. Greens were medium speed and had some sandy areas. Refreshment carts came by several times. Play was slower than usual today .
Overall a good value and I recommend it.
Two different courses
The front nine , the tee boxes needed lots of work, the greens were in really bad shape and rolled really slow. The back nine was truly nice to play, the greens were in excellent shape
Sorry to see what's going on
I have played this course many times over the last 10 years. It was always in great shape. no matter the time of year. This time, it was horrible. Many issues of crabgrass growing on the greens. Big dead or bare spots, Greens werent even mowed for a few days. I know, I work at a golf course. mole traps, etc. They are definately not taking care of it like they used to. Something has surely changed! Wouldn't recommend until they put some time, money and work back into it.
