The Highlands Golf Course

About
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

Garbage
Worst course in the area and it’s been that way for years
Xmas scramble
Booked online but there was no indication that this was going to be a scramble. We had one player who was going to join us after nine but when we got there they told us it couldn't be done. The pro shop would not refund the money despite the fact that nowhere was it listed that this would be a scramble.
Embarrassing
This golf course has become embarrassing over the past 5 years.
Many greens have areas that have zero grass,
Especially on the front nine.
This course requires a major clean up or complete redo.
With the location being perfect, this should be a must play in Sarasota. Unfortunately the club isn't investing to make the course enjoyable.
Highlands review
I played in December and the day was a bit windy but warm. Im not from Florida so not sure if the grass was in winter growth but seemed that was to me. Greens were great, fairways and rough were a bit rough, but again, the date played. Staff was awesome and welcoming even though 1/2 the property was private/membership which in most similar cases, they could be stuffy. Here they were certainly NOT stuffy and quite helpful.
December Highlands round
The course is much improved over the last few several years. The Recent renovations have raised the quality of the greens, tee. boxes, and fairways
Nice layout, lousy conditions
I live in the Meadows and have played this course many times in the 20 years I have lived there.
The greens are awful unless you like a mixture of dirt and grass.
First time I played here in 2 years because the conditions have been so bad.
They are still bad.
I will not go back.
Very nice
Not sure why there's some complaints, it is dry but otherwise in decent shape.
Best public course we have played in Sarasota in 6 years!
This was the first time we played Highlands at the Meadows and we were pleasantly surprised. This was a real treat. It is a great layout, the tees and fairways were in great shape and the greens were quite good at an 8.5 out of ten. The staff were excellent, the pace of play for us was incredible - we were a two-some and we played in under 3 hours. We have played 8-10 public access courses in the Sarasota area the past 6 winters and this was my favorite by far. I know this course has had some mixed reviews in the past but based on conditions at December 2024 this is very good value for the money! Do yourself a favour and play this track. It is a beaut!
Revamped course conditions
After their work all last year on the course with portions closed for extended periods time, their work made a noticeable difference. Fairway and the greens are in much better conditions and there’s been some improvements on the cart path. Very nice to see & play the course.
Getting better but clear red headed step child
This golf course is not fun for someone trying to actually play golf. The rough off of the fairway is about 5-6 inches deep on a Saturday. You’d think they would have it playable for the weekend. The greens on the front 9 are not good at all! Chewed up and ultra bumpy almost an automatic 2 putt. The back 9 greens are better (not chewed up) but still not good. The rough off of the green is awful. Also 4-5 inches thick. Helped my playing partner look for his ball just off the green for 10 minutes before we found it on a par 3. This is clearly not taken care of and the meadows doesn’t care. The BEST thing for this course is make it private with the country club and care about it again because the layout is good at least a 7/10. Just sad
Highlands after Reno
The highlands have really improved the conditions of the greens, fairways & with upgrades to the cart path. Great to see and be able to enjoy
Golf at the highlands
Nice and well maintained course. Friendly attendants and overall good value for the money.
