The Highlands Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
The Highlands golf course is one of three courses owned and operated by Meadows Country Club. In addition to the Highlands and Meadows Courses, there is also the Arthur Hills-designed Groves Course, an 18-hole executive course. The Highlands Course has an "old Florida" layout equipped with plenty of trees and water that tumble across gentle hills. You'll be playing through majestic oaks and towering pines as you take on this challenging-but-fair test. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens demand accuracy but generously the reward well placed shot. The golf course finishes with a tricky par 4. Your tee shot will to be straight and accurate to avoid the fairway bunkers on the left and right, positioning you for a mid iron back into a green that sloped front-to-back and guarded by bunkers on both sides. There is also a lake to the front left.

A mixed bad
The grens on the front nine were bad. the greens on the back nine, with one exception, were fine. All of the greens were very slow. The fairways were ok. Pace of play was ok--4 Hrs for the round. Wouldn't pay $50 for this experience again.
Feb 10 at the Highlands
Pace of play was great. Front nine greens were pretty rough, but overall the course was in decent condition. Complex lacks amenities, eg driving range, cart beverage service.
Good Course
We liked the course very much. The carts were equipped with GPS. The layout was challenging without being too difficult. On several holes you had to choose your club off the tee, it wasn’t just a grip it and rip layout. The tee boxes were in fairly good shape, and the fairways were in very good shape. A few greens had some bare spots, but it has been very dry here for a while. The greens were a bit slower than I expected but they rolled true. Try it – you’ll like it!
Needs work
Greens bumpy bumpty, fairways ok had to move the ball a couple of times due to bald spots. I like the layout and remember it from about 3 years ago. It was in very good shape then, now it’s slipped a bit.
Sadly it ma6 be a while before I come back.
Poor course condition
The greens on the front nine were awful, repaired spots everywhere. The back nine was in much better shape
Go elsewhere.
Greens on the Highlands front nine should be dozed over. Awful is an understatement. Back nine better but no prize. Not sure where the money they charge is going to.
winter golf
Played this course a few years ago and liked it. It didn't disappoint this time. For winter golf with mostly dormant conditions, the course is in good condition. It was reported to have poor greens but I thought they were better than expected for the time of year. However they are very slow. The course was very crowded due to Bobby Jones course closure but the staff is doing a great job handling pace of play.
Golf Day
Nice opportunity to play a course with a reasonable course layout, however number 9 holes is tricky—-happy this is not number 18 as it was once upon a time. Clean restaurant rooms and nice snack shop at the turn. Bring water balls and retriever.
Tale of 2 Nine’s
Review greatly influenced by front nine. Course conditions very inconsistent and thin from tee to green. Playing the back nine we thought we had crossed the street to a different golf course. Conditions much better. Would return when conditions improve on front nine.
