The Groves Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
Designed by Arthur Hills, the Groves Golf Course may be a "short" course but it's still a challenge. It's one of three courses operated by Meadows Country Club. With a layout that sprawls across more than 50 acres, the par-63 layout feels more like a championship par-72 course. The layout is comprised of nine par 4s, eight par 3s, and one par 5. The course rewards accuracy and good shot placement, meaning it's not strength that matters but being able to strategize. The seventh hole is a memorable par 3 that appears simple enough thanks to a massive and seemingly inviting green, but the problem isn't hitting the green but getting your shot on the same level as the pin. There is a 5-foot slope that runs through the green, the severity of which is matched only by some of the greens at Augusta National.

Challenging short, executive course
Overall conditions are fair with fast greens. Many higher handicapped golfers, but pace of play is fine given just a 4200 yard course. I played in 3.5 hours. Would recommend for newer and developing golfers.
Fun
The course has improved significantly from maybe 5 years ago. Right now we are experiencing extreme drought and the greens are very hard and fairways are thin in parts but still very playable .
The course is distant from from the centralized checkin pro shop. It’s somewhat complicated to get from bag drop to pro shop the the 1st tee and you should allow 20 minutes minimum to make your tee time. There aren’t any practice facilities for either the Groves or the Highlands except a shored putting and chipping area. There are clean restrooms on the course and water stations.
You should try it 👍
A windy round
Played in 30 mph winds. To score u need to hit greens. We did not. But it was a great warm up for our week in sarasota. Condition of greens were fine, pace of play was what was expected.
First time 4some
None of us had played the course before. Before we headed to the first tee one of that starters/rangers explained the course's fine points. Carts are rigged with GPS and large color screens. Made club selection easier as well as where the 'trouble' areas are. Did not tell us about the gator, but we found him all on our own!!
Greens were as challenging as he told us. Made up for the course being shorter than average in a big way.
The total staff was super friendly and the place looked great. We look forward to playing there again next week.
Not worth the money! One & Done!
After getting kicked off the driving range, which is for members only, that set the tone for an unpleasant experience. The course condition was decent, but the abundance of short par 3s was disconcerting. The Highlands course is even worse! Do not play here!
Short
Decent layout, Tees beat up, greens OK.
Lot of par 3's
Overbooked
Ridiculously overbooked and slow only played 12 holes stupid
Fun Course
For a short course it has its challenges. Greens are fast and sloped. Will definitely play again.
Slow play. Greens are like asphalt. Fairways cut way too short.
Nice course
The course was in good shape and medium for challenge. Hard enough for me!
Challenge
The course was in good shape for this time of year.
The greens were lightening fast but true. You had to be on your game. No gimmies. Pace of play was slow
on the front 9 with a very slow twosome backing everyone up, but they only played 9 holes. The back 9 was faster and the backup disappeared after they left. All in all it was a good round of golf. The Groves course is a great challange.
A foursome was in front of us and would not let us play through. Had to wait on every hole starting on number 7.
Friday Groves
The pace was to slow on the first nine. We could not finish our 18 holes
Played only 16 holes
Too bad

Slow
The course was really overbooked in my opinion. We waited on every hole. It was pretty dry and not much green grass. The course is very tight and your shots have to be well placed, and greens are fast. Not worth what they are charging at the regular rate.
