The Groves Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
Designed by Arthur Hills, the Groves Golf Course may be a "short" course but it's still a challenge. It's one of three courses operated by Meadows Country Club. With a layout that sprawls across more than 50 acres, the par-63 layout feels more like a championship par-72 course. The layout is comprised of nine par 4s, eight par 3s, and one par 5. The course rewards accuracy and good shot placement, meaning it's not strength that matters but being able to strategize. The seventh hole is a memorable par 3 that appears simple enough thanks to a massive and seemingly inviting green, but the problem isn't hitting the green but getting your shot on the same level as the pin. There is a 5-foot slope that runs through the green, the severity of which is matched only by some of the greens at Augusta National.

Can’t recommend
Sorry, but for the cost of playing this course the conditions are not good enough.
Unwatered fairways.
Greens were great (very quick). Wasn't too crowded, but all the grass off of greens was not in good shape. Saw beverage cart once in 18 holes. Clubhouse attendant was not polite.
Non Members are not allowed to use the driving range.
Extremely Challenging
As intermediate golfers we found the course to be very challenging. It is narrow requiring a high degree of accuracy to stay out of trouble and the flags on some holes were set to impossible locations. For example on the side of a hill seemed a bit over the top given if you missed the putt it rolled back to where you started still on the side of the hill. That hole provided entertainment. Overall it was an enjoyable day and we finished respectably in 3 hours with one exception as already noted!
Executive par 64 not actual golf course we were looking for.
Did not look close at yardage only 4000 +/- from Blue tees and only a Par 64.
This should be clearly marked “ Not a real golf course”.
Great for practice or kids or those looking for half a golf course with no practice range.
It made us feel good driving the green from the blue tees on par 4’s and getting Eagles. Something we don’t do on other courses.
The Groves - not bad for a hot deal
Executive course not bad. Greens fast nice. Fairways pretty good. Tee boxes not. We live in Sarasota so the start of snowbirds season means longer rounds, nobody and I mean nobody repaid digits ball marks especially on and around the green. That was the case here.
Nice challenge if you are decent golfer. Not to bad if you're a novice. Water in view most holes, in play if you're a duffer. Staff very friendly. The meadows is actually 3 18 holes courses. The Groves public executive. Highlands is semi private other one is members only.
Would at again but probably if I could get the GN Hot Deals again otherwise pricey for in-season. I'd go for it to work your shorter game as well.
Amenities
There is no washroom close to the 1st/10th tees, which was inconvenient. other than that we enjoyed the course.
Nice and quick!!
Great little course! Loved the short holes which allowed for quick play! Also great to walk it!
Disappointing Impression
We arrived early to warm up at the driving range (advertised) only to be told it is for members only. They informed us there is a net for non-members but it was a victim of Hurricane Ida. We politely asked if we could move up our tee time since we could not warm-up but we were told "no" as we prepaid. I won't suggest the pro shop was rude but I won't go as far as to say they were friendly or customer accommodating. The restroom for non-members resembled a bathroom stall you would find at an interstate gas station. Fortunately the quality of the golf & weather salvaged the day.
