The Groves Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
Designed by Arthur Hills, the Groves Golf Course may be a "short" course but it's still a challenge. It's one of three courses operated by Meadows Country Club. With a layout that sprawls across more than 50 acres, the par-63 layout feels more like a championship par-72 course. The layout is comprised of nine par 4s, eight par 3s, and one par 5. The course rewards accuracy and good shot placement, meaning it's not strength that matters but being able to strategize. The seventh hole is a memorable par 3 that appears simple enough thanks to a massive and seemingly inviting green, but the problem isn't hitting the green but getting your shot on the same level as the pin. There is a 5-foot slope that runs through the green, the severity of which is matched only by some of the greens at Augusta National.

Tough track
This course was difficult. The tea boxes were not well groomed! When your ball goes into the roof it’s very hard to get it out as it gets buried. Very slow be greens and fairways.
Great Course
I been playing the groves course at The Meadows for quite some time now. The course has had its ups and downs but overall I can say it’s an awesome course. The smallest out of all three courses but still pretty challenging. I been playing here for a little over three years and overall it never disappoints. Definitely worth the money.
A Good Ball Striking Test
Groves is in pretty good condition. Greens are in excellent shape. Tees & fairway conditions have improved dramatically. Pace of play for a single on an executive course was great at 2 hours for 18 holes. Highly recommend this fun, challenging golf course
Greens need TLC
The Groves is normally a fun and challenging course when the greens are in good shape. But when I played this last weekend the greens were a great disappointment. They ran super slow & weren't rolling true. Clearly they have been aerated and haven't fully recovered. I have played the Groves many times when the greens were running fast & true but they are not at this time of the year. One other.extremely annoying issue with the way they cut the hole on the greens is that the area immediately surrounding each hole is mounded (like a little volcano) all the way around the hole. This is likely due to poor hole cutting practices that don't flatten the area immediately around the hole properly as seen in well maintained golf courses. It is an easy problem to fix but it needs fixing. Why? Because if you like to die the ball at the hole you can forget making any putts, even straight ones.. Hopefully, the green ssues will be resolved but until then I will choose to play elsewhere. Fairways, tees, and chipping areas have improved however.
Groves
Perfect course to work the Irons with only 2 Par 5 holes. Plenty of water & cane grass to keep you on your toes. The carts have gps and electronic scorecards. Only complaint is the restrictions programmed in consequently causing the cart to slow until it returns to the path. The sister course Highlands is also good.
Not worth the $
Course not very well marked. No accommodations for handicapped and no amenities at the course, had to go back to other 18 hole course for drink or snacks.
Major Cousre Improvements
The tee area and the fairways have improved dramatically. The greens roll very good considering they were plugged and sanded the week before. Given another week they should roll great. Pace of play for a single with no one in front was less than 2 hours which is excellent. As usual, this course requires precise shot making to score low because the double-tiered greens are the defense of the course. I find a number of holes on the front and the back nine quite challenging. But good shot making rewards the golferd with many birdie opportunities. Loose shots guarantee blow up scores because there are water penalty areas on all 18 holes. The Groves is always a fun challenge. Highly recommend.
Great Staff
Course has a lot of challenging par 3’s and touchy greens. I was expecting a beat up course, due to how short it was, but it was nice and I would certainly go back.
The greens were recently airiated, which made them tough to judge than normal I am sure. The staff was great and set us up early in the morning.
