The Groves Golf Course

About
Designed by Arthur Hills, the Groves Golf Course may be a "short" course but it's still a challenge. It's one of three courses operated by Meadows Country Club. With a layout that sprawls across more than 50 acres, the par-63 layout feels more like a championship par-72 course. The layout is comprised of nine par 4s, eight par 3s, and one par 5. The course rewards accuracy and good shot placement, meaning it's not strength that matters but being able to strategize. The seventh hole is a memorable par 3 that appears simple enough thanks to a massive and seemingly inviting green, but the problem isn't hitting the green but getting your shot on the same level as the pin. There is a 5-foot slope that runs through the green, the severity of which is matched only by some of the greens at Augusta National.

Great Course
Great course and staff. The course is very scenic with plenty of wildlife.
Fun course!
I work at the course…so full disclosure. The Groves is in great shape…with fast greens. Fun to play for all levels of skill! Very challenging from the back tees. Play in under 3 hours! Check it out!!
Much improved
Compared to the last time that I played the Groves a few years ago, this course has come a long way. The greens are now healthy, receptive, and roll true and fast. (Some have a lot of slope which makes them very difficult.) The fairways and traps are good. Very good GPS on the carts. A few tees were fair. Only cages for warm ups. Did 18 in three hours. Fun.
Not Quite What I Was Expecting
The fairways and greens were in decent shape. The tee boxes were in very poor condition. Many had uneven surfaces, some were slightly crowned and most lacked significant grass and instead were quite sandy. The cart paths were bumpy, cracked in places and the ride was jolting. Signage on the course was minimal.
Groves
Nice moderately difficult short course . The difficulty level depends on pin placement. Water on12 holes. They are on 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8,13,14,15,16,17. Enjoyable 3 hours.
Some of the lady tee positions were a joke , placed in the middle of fairways on slopes and in some cases almost in the rough!
Pleasant Surprise!
I played The Groves golf course today for the first time in months. The Groves is a par 65 executive course designed by Arthur Hills, and it measures 4211 yards from the tips. It's a fun but challenging layout. The Groves is one of 3 golf courses in The Meadows, a resort community in Sarasota, FL. The Groves and The Highlands are public and The Meadows Members Course is private. As a Meadows resident and Meadows Club member I rarely play on either of the public courses, but today my group played on The Groves. It was in FANTASTIC shape - at least as good as the Members course! The fairways and greens were lush, the tee boxes were in very good condition and there wasn't much leftover storm damage. I was really very pleasantly surprised by the conditions. And my threesome played 18 holes in under 3 hours! All in all a great experience and I look forward to playing it again!
Course in Great shape
The Groves is in great shape. The staff is always amazing!! Especially Sue and Gary!
