The Groves Golf Course

About
Designed by Arthur Hills, the Groves Golf Course may be a "short" course but it's still a challenge. It's one of three courses operated by Meadows Country Club. With a layout that sprawls across more than 50 acres, the par-63 layout feels more like a championship par-72 course. The layout is comprised of nine par 4s, eight par 3s, and one par 5. The course rewards accuracy and good shot placement, meaning it's not strength that matters but being able to strategize. The seventh hole is a memorable par 3 that appears simple enough thanks to a massive and seemingly inviting green, but the problem isn't hitting the green but getting your shot on the same level as the pin. There is a 5-foot slope that runs through the green, the severity of which is matched only by some of the greens at Augusta National.

Groves Golf Course
Its a good course especially for working on your "short game"
Too difficult for me
The course is very difficult...narrow fairways, lots of tight water, tough bunker locations make it over my head...way way above avg penalty stroked...
However, course is in good condition although the greens were overseeded wit diff grass so they aren't as good as most courses in the area.
Decent course...just over my head.
Short course
Par 66 but a fun course, not difficult. Greens were pretty true easy to read. You do have to place your shots. Conditions were not too bad.
Tee boxes rough overall. Fairways and greens in good condition.
Tough back nine @ the Groves course
Friendly staff from pro shop to cart attendant to starter. Greens were quick and rolled true. Although considered an executive course, par 65 with a par five makes it a bit longer ……. back nine +- 500 yards longer than front nine and definitely more challenging. Tee boxes and fairways in fair condition, pretty much what you would expect for February Florida golf. Played the course in 3 hrs and 20 minutes.
Golf Shop
Sue and Susan at the golf shop were amazing! They accommodated us with what we needed. Excellent customer service!
Unforgiving greens. Driving range for members only
The greens definitely slow down play. Very slanted and pitched so 3,4 & 5 puts are common. No driving range for guests. It's always nice to warm up before starting a round.
Groves gc is a fun course to play
If you want a challenging, scenic, and executive size course with very challenging, fast greens you will like this course. Slope on some of the greens a little too tough even for better golfers!
Unfair Pins
Whoever decided on pin placement must have been angry at someone. On multiple holes the hole was on such an incline that you could not stop the ball unless it went in. On the 18th, 3 of us putted to with inches only to have the ball roll all the way back. Ridiculous. If their intent was to frustrate the golfers they succeeded. Also true on 5, 7 and a few others. Unfair.
Neature Haven
This in an oldie but a goodie. Lots of nature. Trees, brush, lakes, bridges, gators and birds. Old Sarasota Suptropical Jungle. Bigger executive course (maybe it just feels that way because of the nature). Cart lady comes to you with snacks. Well kept. Staff nice. Honestly my favorite course and my kids love it.
